I will wait to see Motoko animated. While I am not a fan of the butch lesbian haircut, I dig her suit which made me think of

*Whistles* Some frekken high wall this new GiTS has to go through. Anyway, I'm looking forward to it still. Better GiTS than nothing. Though that bright blue shade of Motoko's hair just feels wrong; I'm already missing the old look.

More like two words : not good.
I didn't mind her design however and as long as it may turn out to be a prequel, it's fine.
I have one question : is this artwork drawn by Tetsuya Nishio ? I have strong Naruto vibes when looking at this pic.

Kenji Kawai also did a good job on the GiTS movies score.

Some already suggested that it's a reboot.

But is she still popular in Japan? Is Origa still popular? Prob alot of otaku would be salivating at hearing Kalifina before Origa now.

Since it's all about selling the CDs, if they aren't popular, they're not going to be used.

It's better looking than what she was wearing in SAC.

That's true. I have to wonder just what the animators were thinking when they designed her attire. I can't believe that they would think it plausible that a woman would run around in public like that and not feel ashamed or , at the very least, get harassed.

But not her hair, I don't like her forehead haircut. It make her less badass.

Looks like Production IG put up an official English report on their site: http://www.productionig.com/contents..._the_sh_5.html

Quote:
Production I.G announces the production of Ghost in the Shell: Arise, the new chapter of the world million-selling franchise of Ghost in the Shell, originally created in 1989 by comic artist Shirow Masamune.

Ghost in the Shell: Arise, to be launched in 2013, will be directed by Kazuchika Kise (chief animator in both Ghost in the Shell and Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence movies) while the screenplay will be penned by award-winning novelist Tow Ubukata (Mardock Scramble, Le Chevalier d'Eon) and the music composed by Cornelius (Appleseed: Ex Machina). Shirow Masamune will also directly contribute to the project.
An official presentation with special guests will take place at the nicofarre event hall in Tokyo on February 12, 2013 and will be webcast live worldwide with simultaneous translation from 9:00 pm (Japan time) on Niconico, Bandai Channel and YouTube.

About the director: Kazuchika Kise
Born in Osaka in 1965. After graduating from high school, Kise enrolled an animation school, but quit after just four days to join Osaka-based studio Anime R. He then moved to Production I.G in the studio's early days. A natural talent, he became one of Mamoru Oshii's favourite artists, serving as animation supervisor in the two Patlabor movies (1989 and 1993), the groundbreaking Ghost in the Shell (1995) and its Palme d'Or-nominated follow up Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence (2004). Other notably works include, Neon Genesis Evangelion: Death and Rebirth (1997), Blood: The Last Vampire (2000) xxxHOLiC - A Midsummer Night's Dream (2005), Musashi: The Dream of the Last Samurai (2009) and Blood-C: The Last Dark (2012). He made his directorial debut in 2011 with the short film, Drawer Hobs, that was selected at Sitges and SICAF film festivals. Currently head animator at Production I.G's Studio 2, Kise is commonly regarded as one of Japan's finest animation artists.

Here's to hoping Kise will be IG's next Hiroyuki Okiura (citing their similar backgrounds, from chiefly animation to overall direction).

Also, normally I would have cringed at The Major's outfit on season 1 of SAC, but she carried it with so much flair and finesse that I barely noticed it.

Hm, don't know how I feel about the new outfit. It could grow on me and I certainly don't find it awful. Heck its not like what she wore in SAC 1 was more stylish than this. As far as the TV shows are concerned my favorite outfits for the major have always been the ones she wore in SAC season 2.

Almost everything Puppetmaster. As much as I love GITS, I hated the whole merging concept. Motoko is an interesting enough character without turning her into some kind of internet god. In fact, that's why I liked SAC, due to the emphasis on classic science fiction storytelling of viewing humanity through the window of a plausible future setting. The Oshii films are good, don't get me wrong, but the first's ending didn't sit well with me, and the second felt empty without Motoko (and her appearance at the end was just silly).

Wow what the hell, am I the only one that likes her new design? It actually feels like something from you'd see in a nice cyberpunk 90s anime.
