This whole kings business was never really explained for instance. The most we got was a flashback that didn't really do anything other than present two hitherto irrelevant characters and some sort of a back story that didn't actually do anything in terms of providing useful information. Apparently the German guy essentially gave his life up while the Japanese soldier somehow ended up being the highest authority in Japan.

And there's this guy who can steal people's bodies etc. and he's the antagonist or sort of or whatever.

Bla bla. If it works for you, good for you. As far as I am concerned, this is bullshit and a random hodgepodge of ideas thrown into a melting pot.

If that's the case, then yes, you do need to have seen the side materials to understand it better.

However, purely from the show itself, was there anything central to the show's plot that came out of nowhere? The background of characters are not in the scope of the show's issue.

Meanwhile we have a random aggressive punk become a king in the duration of another flashback where some kid chases him around trying to be his squire. He somehow cares for his men because lo and behold he suddenly has a loli by his side.

Whut....that scene was not the entire process of him becoming King. As for the second part of this quote, I completely cannot understand it at all. Cares for his men because of his loli O__o wtf

If such slow, deep, style of presentation does not work for you, no problem sure, but saying it's random just because tons of exposition on them were not presented beforehand is off the mark.

K is pretty easy to understand and pretty straight forward. The interaction between red and blue king, fushimi and yata, red blue clans all are not that deep or complicated relationships in anyway. i enjoy the anime though. it doesn't try to be deep or give any sort of message other than bonds between people. it might seem there is not much explanations like how red and blue king met, were they even friends for long etc. but those kinds of things look like they will dwell on in manga or novel or side stories.

they only got 13 episodes, the main characters are kuroh-shiro and neko who have to resolve the red and blue and colorless dispute.

I saw an interesting theory on tumblr where someone was looking at the scene with the colorless king (erm, where Kukuri is standing in a tree and suddenly has a multiway conversation with themself) and noticed that the filter over the scene changed slightly each time someone new talked. They thought it might indicate that the colorless king already absorbed the green and black kings, I disagree but thought it was interesting enough to mention.
I've also got a small theory, what if the colorless king isn't, well, the colorless king? Whenever we've seen them floating around they look more like a fox spirit than anything else and the show has shown that you can have animals that are strains (the horse from the Red manga, Neko) so I'm wondering if he might just be a really powerful strain that's out to mess with everyone.

Hmm, this might be why I've seen so many people say "this show is confusing and didn't foreshadow anything!" and people who go "this show had a ton of foreshadowing!", it's almost all visual foreshadowing. Most of the hints people had that Shiro was the silver king came from a few scenes where he did something, there was a cut to another angle where all the viewer could see was a silver light, it's a show that makes use of it's visual component. That's why I thought the theory from tumblr was interesting, it relies both on auditory (the changes in mannerisms and voice between, erm, voices) and visual (with slightly changing the color of the scene) cues which is what, as someone said earlier, a mystery does.

based on the previous episode(11) i think maybe is more clear who "golum fox" have both "black and white color"(if his color is white then he absorbed black, if black then white).

Spoiler for Episode 13 (End) + Review:

The battle between Homra and Scepter4 approach to an end, yet the Colorless King (which was supposed to take form of a fox spirit) finally controls Shiro's body after a long time. He attempts to stop the tragic conflict, but seeing that he's perhaps a clone (or gets genderswapped by Adolf K. Weissman according to the last few episodes), he gets killed off by Mikoto who later sacrifices himself before he gets stabbed by Munakata. After seeing the two dies, everyone cries, but at the same time, can finally see the world resting in peace. What I especially liked in K is how the multicolored animation is sublime and show great details. The story, on the other hand, was pretty weak throughout, but does show some of its hints, leading a bit further in explanations. The music was very urban-ish and done in great aesthetics. The ending makes K one of the few shows I've watched where the protagonist tragically dies despite somewhat leads up his heroism at times. The story wouldn't finish however since the sequel will be made next year. I can't have any expectations to it since I don't know if Shiro will return or not, but it makes me curious to see it !

i am pretty disappointed with mikoto's character. people seem to make him to be some sort of badass but really he was just a ass what he did to his clan and his friend munakata. seriously shiro had to die and then munakata had to stab him even though he wanted to try and save suoh.

hopefully the next season or ova or whatever focuses on other colors and not reds. hoping for green and black reveal.

Spoiler for ep 13:

I guess I have to applaud the writers for actually following through instead of any deus ex machina? I didn't expect they'd actually do it, so yay for them. (But I did want a montage over the end credits. :/ I don't know why they didn't do it.)

The stars of the episode, as well as the entire show, were the Black & White and Red & Blue pairs, so this ep was about them - there wasn't enough Black & White, and barely enough Blue for my taste, but eh, whatever, I've already accepted that the writers are biased toward Homra. :/ Something I hope will change in the sequel.

As for Shiro and Kurou, they had some pretty great scenes, and Kurou and Neko in the end were heartbreakingly adorable - especially as a puppy and a kitty, how on earth did Kurou do that? Did I miss something? Never mind, it was ridiculously cute. Also, Neko's "makenyai!" AAAAHH NEKO. You're so ridiculously adorable.

By the way, I don't believe that Shiro/Weissmann is really dead.

As for Red and Blue, their scenes packed a real punch in the good old traditional Passionate Manly Rivalry That Can Only End In Drama(TM) way. I have a thing for those, and K delivered. Aww yeah. To be honest I would've liked to see a happy end for those two, because I like happy ends, but this was as good a resolution as any. Those were some great character moments for both Reishi and Mikoto. Reishi's "as Munakata Reishi, I want to save you" was pretty much the highlight of the episode as far as I'm concerned.

Mikoto killing Shiro like that came pretty much out of left field, though. Not the act itself, more like Shiro going "o hai, you're looking for me? come, kill me!" and Mikoto being like "okay!" *crunchsplat* I kind of expected... I dunno, more drama? I mean, aside of the fact that Mikoto just committed double regicide(? I guess that word works...), he also kind of killed Shiro? Our main character? Ah well, at least Shiro got to have his final dramatic monologue earlier. Also Mikoto could've shown a little more hesitation or doubt at this strange new twist, but then, I guess his mind was one-track enough not to hesitate.

I guess Mikoto is really dead... I don't think they'll bring him back, but anything can happen.

Stuff I didn't care for was that totally random Fushimi & Yata flashback - it totally destroyed the mood, good thing it was at the beginning of the episode. (They get a flashback, but Shiro, Mikoto and Reishi don't? Pff.) And Fushimi in general, gah, he's so bloody annoying. (And to think that he was one of the main reasons, along with Munakata and Kurou, that I started watching this show...)

And the whole NO BONE NO BLOOD NO ASH HOMRA 4 EVAR thing complete with the monumental, mournful male chorus was very, very cheesy and not in a good way. Maybe it's because I'm not a Homra fan (but even if I was I would've found this over the top...), but I was like "okay, can we move on now?" to Kurou and Neko and Reishi?

Aaand sequel! Cool, I guess? I wonder how they'll write themselves out of what happened in this ep.

Altogether, K was a very enjoyable show, much better than I expected, with enough heart, self-awareness and humor to be more than a cookie-cutter eyecandy galore. I cautiously look forward to the sequel.

I'm going to preface this with the: I'm pretty sure Weismann/Shiro is not dead. There's a very bright, very peculiar star hanging out very conveniently above Neko and Kuro when they declare him their one and only king. Also, his sword didn't break in the fashion of how swords seem to break when they are destroyed, its just faded away. (Mikoto's lost its color then fell apart from the tip up, Shiro's just outright faded away.)

- Blue vs. Red: The best line of the whole episode going to Munakata, hands down.
- Silver vs. Colorless: Weisnmann absorbs Colorless and, struggling to keep him contained, offers himself up to Mikoto: "Only kings can kill kings." Though I have no idea why this would kill Weismann who is indestructible as demonstrated by Colorless being unable to erase him and he even said so himself. He can't die so how would he have suddenly died?

That said, I thought this was a good ending to a bit of a roughly paced but still enjoyable show and I'm glad its getting a season 2 (the budget was really running out in some parts of this episode). Hopefully S2 will focus on this show's strengths (the adorable Neko and Kuro and Shiro ()) rather than the awkward Yata and Fushimi focus that's been seeping in at all the wrong moments. I don't mind them as characters but their interactions aren't nearly as important as Munakata and Mikoto or Shiro and Kuro, yet they take up valuable screen time and throw the mood off a bit. That said, I can see Munakata resigning his seat as king, and Yata and Fushimi facing off in the future as Red/Blue kings.
