It also has longer chapters than weekly series (although I'm not sure if they're four times longer). There are plenty of monthly manga series. Some manga magazines are just monthly.

All the Death Scythes are very strong. I don't remember if it was ever mentioned if one in particular was the strongest, but Spirit was used personally by Shinigami for a while, so that may count for something.

There's no way of knowing that.

Excluding? We don't know. Of Shibusen, it's suggested that it's Spirit going by how Shinigami refers to him as the only Death Scythe who can be called by that name.

Though given the context of that comment, and the fact we don't know how Shinigami chooses his personal Weapon, this might not actually mean much.

@Hisago - Spirit still is Shinigami's personal Weapon, and has been throughout the series (disregarding flashbacks, obviously). He worked with Stein temporarily. Whether he'll get ousted from the top spot is yet to be seen!

Of the other Weapons, we have no real comparison to go by; Masamune was very strong (would-be Kishin on Shinigami's list), and Giriko is capable of at least going one-on-one against a Death Scythe. Crona/Ragnarok are an anomaly in this case, I think.

Justin heavily outmatched Giriko during their fight. If he didn't need to save Maka and Corona Giriko would have been killed.

It seems that any Deathscythe is stronger than Crona. Spirit back in ep 8 was able to piece the Black Blood, and Giriko who we might as well as consider one, also did it with ease, oppose to Kid and Maka who infilcted no damage to him/her.

True, but I meant anomaly in the sense that they're both Technician and Weapon, and the question was about the strongest Weapon.

Who is Maka's mother?
She's mention only in the anime. Does or will she ever make an appearance?

I'm only up to episode 18 of the anime.

She hasn't made an appearance in either the anime or the manga.

Q: Confused bout Shinigami and Kishin. Doesn't both of them translate as Death God?

No, Kishin is more along the lines of Demon God.

Question because I've been reading comments on LJ and am now confused on the matter: do we have a canon name for Maka's mother?

The comments I've read say that 'Kami' (the name that seems to have been adopted by some, at least in the English-speaking fandom) is actually being used as a title of sorts, rather than a name.

Any thoughts/clarification from those of you knowledgeable about Japanese?

No, it's not a title. Kami is her name. It's been used in conjunction with honorifics.

(Maka's mother is Japanese)

I heard somewhere that Maka's name is an anagram of "kama" which is japanese for scythe. Is this true?

according to Maka's mother , I haven't seen the name yet in the manga. Or is it just me?

(I'm afraid Spirit calls his wife by 'Kami-san' just a nickname or something)
