It's also been confirmed that this game will cover two (2) time periods. Most likely that means we'll play as Gabriel in the past post Mirror of Fate and the present day in the city setting. Most of the game takes place during the city setting, so that also goes back to what Cox was saying about how the player is to retrieve Dracula's lost powers after being resurrected.

Only you have dark powers and can suck blood of course. Like a real vampire should.

The E3 conference mentioned it will have a modern setting and a medieval castle. Dracula will be in his human form (Gabriel) and wields multiple weapons. He is also not wearing a shirt. There is a cute that dog that appears in the trailer.

There is also a Mega 64 parody with a fat Dracula.

Indeed it does. Honestly, this reboot is exactly what the Castlevania franchise needed, and clearly Konami approves of it. The Lords of Shadow saga is arguably the most interesting in the entire series. A modern day setting and playing as Dracula for once? Now that's refreshing and awesome.

The first game really got to me that you end up being Dracula, but seeing this new take on the story it looks epic, I won't be surprised if the trailers in past is only the beginning stage for an even more bigger modern time setting.

^That's probably going to be the case. Playing as a young and powerful Dracula from the past will serve as a prologue essentially. The main game will be in the modern time-setting with an old Dracula trying to regain his lost powers. Notice how Mercury Steam is barely showing anything from the modern time-setting? Clearly there are big surprises in that portion of the story that they don't want to spoil.

Hopefully, we'll be getting a full gameplay demo video anytime soon. Dracula weilding the Void sword looks beast!

Here's an interesting article to read:

http://m.edge-online.com/features/ca...ries-overhaul/

It doesn't say much about anything other than what we already know, but it really tells us just how ambitious and grand this game is going to be.

^ Indeed. MercurySteam isn't half-assing anything in their projects. They're going all out to deliver a final solid product, and I'm very appreciative and thankful for their efforts. This game is a day 1 purchase for me; I'll be sure to support them.

It was hard getting invested in the first Lord of Shadows, because aside from the whip and Death, it felt like an unfamiliar alien universe

where's the cross boomerang?

where are the staple recognizable enemies? medusa heads? skull towers? annoying jumping little men?

where's the baroque music?

^ Lords of Shadow was a reboot to the Castlevania franchise. So while it retained some familiar and classic elements from what existed before, it also introduced a lot of its own brand new additions. Something new and fresh had to be done with the series, and Lords of Shadow revitalized it by doing just that.

This is the problem with some gamers nowadays. They're afraid of change; and when developers comply with their demands, that's when things get stagnant and decline over time. MercurySteam had the sense not to do this, and the series is now more successful than it's ever been.

It's not a reboot, It's re-imagination

but in order to be called that, you still need some familiar elements, because without familiar elements then it's not Castlevania at all

you might as well call it something else. No matter how you spin it, borrowing a name from named franchise to promote another kind of game is frowned upon.

It's that kind of practice that made Super Mario Bros 2 hated in come circles for a while.

And change is only acceptable when concerning gameplay. Which is not among my listed concerns. The gameplay is an acceptable change. ( It would be nice if it found it's own soul, though. It reminds me too much of a certain other game as of now)

No, my point is why do player character have to fight werewolves and spiders over and over again? Where's the staple enemies? It wasn't because they wanted to do something new. It's because they ran out of time.

How do I know this?

because if they tried it could have been more like this:

http://castlevania.wikia.com/wiki/Mi..._Fate_Bestiary

Too bad Mirror of Fate was a terribad game

^ But it does have familiar elements.

Konami approves of the direction MercurySteam has taken, and Konami says it's Castlevania. It doesn't get any more clear than that.

Lords of Shadow plays nothing like Gears of War.

You might as well complain why you have to fight skeletons over and over again in the previous titles.

Your arguments don't hold up well, my friend.
