I think 10 years could work. Black Rock Shooter was born before Yuu met Saya. It seems the time line really depends on how many years it would take for high school aged Saya to get a job as a guidance counselor, which I doubt is a job you can get right out of high school. Also BRS could have existed since Mato was very young since she exists because of Mato's desire not to be hated or to hate anyone.

Let's put Mato at 15, thereabouts. That means that BRS has been present since she was 5.

Is there any lower age limit for the manifestation of one's otherself? Because 5 seems to be stretching it.

On the other hand, a High School Student graduating with a psychology degree and becoming a counselor in 10 years is very reasonable - though 6 too could work....

Yeah, I think 6 years works just fine: 1 year to finish high-school, 4 years of college, and 1 more year to get the counselor job. Good enough for me. 10 years seems overkill.

I think it's more reasonable to say alter-egos form when a person's worries are more mature. If not, every temper tantrum a child throws would be reason enough to have their own personal BRS.

Maybe not every temper tantrum links someone with another self, but a small child could definitely have emotional stress that could do the trick: Bullying, parental neglect, etc. Anyway, Mato and Black Rock Shooter are connected because of Mato's desire to get along with everyone, which probably formed very, very early at least by first year of elementary school.

Six years is probably the minimum, ten years the possible max, lets split the difference and say eight.

Yuu's biggest threat would be Black Rock Shooter. So Strength decided to get close to BRS's real world person to keep an eye on her is what I am guessing. I think Mato's fuzzy memory is probably because Strength is from the otherworld and she is effected by everyone else. Also maybe she started forgetting because of emotional stress.

Umm, Huke does draw guys, badass ones, but they don't belong to his BRS universe, not that i would mind having them in BRS (much like the game)

yeah, Huke is famous for his love of Halo and Gears of War... which may explain why the BRS multiverse tends to be such a gritty place where bad stuff happens very often. Also fan of TTGL if his Lord Genome fanart is any indication

Marron, the theory behind killing the Others is that once the Other is dead, they take with them the pain and suffering their human counterparts were suffering. It doesn't really fix the problem, but it at least sets them free from the pain as long as they don't try to remember. It's a quick fix that isn't really a solution.

However, it fits with Mato's ideology that everybody is good at heart and deserve being "helped". Rock is simply answering to Mato's desire for everybody to avoid their pain... so SHE doesn't have to suffer due to shared experiences.

For 5 episodes we were watching an exaggerated drama interrupted by some irrelevant and very short action scenes. Then we watch two episodes that use minor characters, altering the background already presented in order to have an overstretched connection between two different shows. And let's not forget the 1.5 episodes of totally irrelevant basketball captain subplot as well as that none of the staff have yet decided on what exactly happened in Yuu's childhood, they seem to pick each time whatever is more convenient

If these work for you, NP, they definitely don't for me. Good examples how to make such connections are the Twin Peaks episodes directed by Lynch or Lost Highway and Eraserhead by the same director. In anime, SE:Lain made the connection smoothly, as did (but less smoothly) .hack//LIMINALITY for .hack//SIGN.

IMHO, they just wanted to use the stellar character designs, but also appeal to a wider audience that wouldn't be captured just by them and thus we got the whole slice of life part. To make things worse they aired the show in a zone that originally aspired to appeal to OLs and controlled by hipsters

Now all these aside, there are certainly good points in the show, it's definitely not the worse I have seen this season, and at least it tried to pull out an interesting plot (albeit failing), rather than rehash something formulaic that most anime do these days. On the other hand using tried and tested structures makes a show easier to watch
