Well, there is much whining from the pharma lobbyists in this article.

When I read such numbers, then I somehow feel the need to make them cry.

They made a ton of money from the drugs. As of last week at least.

And with regards to whining, apparently they still don't care. Or maybe it is just late stage cancer drugs.

Popular Kids in High School Earn More Later in Life

Quote:
High school popularity may pay off.

A study released Monday argues those in the top fifth of the high school popularity pyramid garnered a 10% wage premium nearly 40 years after graduation, compared to those in the bottom fifth.

The study was published by the National Bureau of Economic Research. Its authors say they don’t view popularity as an “innate personality trait.” Instead, popularity pays because those who learn to play the game in high school are figuring out what they need to know to succeed when they enter the workplace. The report suggests schools may want to join their academic mission with one that helps students build their social skills.

Heh, if you want to see angry people - ask a group of pharmacists what they think about the drug giants, their pricing, marketing, or choices of research. They get to deal with the results of that on the patient every single day (e.g. "I've stopped treatment to keep my family from declaring bankruptcy").

For a double whammy, ask them about the insurance industry ... you know, the "corporate for-profit death panels" our tea-tards never seem to mention

Racial Divide on Academic Based Admissions

http://www.nytimes.com/2012/10/27/ed...f=general&_r=0

There's an amusing comment about how when Caucasians were the majority, they were against "broad based admissions" but now that Asians are taking up a lot of spots, they're now for it..

French President Francois Hollande is considering a pushing for a new tax that would see search engines such as Google have to pay each time they use content from French media. Hollande discussed the topic with Eric Schmidt, executive chairman of Google, during a meeting in Paris on Monda

http://www.washingtonpost.com/busine...76a_story.html
how would that even work?

All Google does is provide a link in answer to a Search. If the site provider wants to get paid they can put their site on a paid model. But how would the French government even tax something like a link?

Giants' World Series Win Sparks Riots In San Francisco:

Quote:
Just because the San Francisco Giants clinched the 2012 World Series in cold, damp Detroit didn't mean that there was no hot party in San Francisco. Thousands of fans congregated near City Hall to watch Game 4 and the crowd erupted after Giants closer Sergio Romo struck out Miguel Cabrera to secure the franchise's second championship since moving to the Bay Area.

As was the case after the team won the 2010 title, the raucous celebration was reportedly punctuated by fire and rioting, according to various reports.

IIRC, it's not search engines as much as news aggregators which are targeted.

Spoken like someone who doesn't know much about Detroit at all

Detroit has a host of problems, rioting sports fans that burns signs and turns cars over is not one of them.
