Yeah i'll also recommend Cross Game, though there's a bigger reason then it just being a sports anime.

There's also Ookiku Furikabutte.

May stretch it a little... but look at Suzuka. Sports plays a good part in it, although it's more of a romance/drama.

I recommend Overdrive. 26 episodes should last you a bit. I like it because it's a different sport than baseball >_>.

Ookiku Furikabutte aka Big Windup

Adachi's works: Cross Game, Touch, H2. H2 is probably the most sports focused.

Cross Game

Cross Game

and...

Well, I guess the currently ongoing Giant Killer is not bad. You might also want to give a shot to Overdrive as someone mentioned earlier. A little different from the rest, One outs is the bastard child of Death Note/Akagi with a sports series, so you might like that.

Whatever became of Basquash!? I notice that the second half of the episodes are largely unsubbed, and the trackers have very few seeds. This seemed likely to be a hit given its mixture of mecha and basketball, not to mention a huge dose of money from Nike, yet it's fallen off the radar screen.

I'd endorse both Hikaru and Shion if you don't mind the fact that they concern board games and not athletics. Shion has a murder mystery involved along with the Shougi.

Indeed, Hikaru no Go is an excellent series. If it wasn't for the fact he already watched it I would have recommended it 3 times myself.
