At the end of the 12th episode they talked about the star the shines even durring the day, while this could happen this star(light) wouldn't be visable all the time since the earth does turn and unless the star was in geoscycronous orbit it couldn't happen with the laws of the universe as wel know them.

OR maybe Thier just sitting in orbit waiting to come back down for a second season

well, yeah, and it makes no sense that they can become a star so bright and so big unless they aren't really that far away from earth, or that they become a supernova sized star XD

Some people really have issues... Aren't there more pressing concerns? Like, how come Jennifer speaks such good Japanese? And can a robot get drunk?

well, there's no problem about Jennifer speaking Japanese since there's no rule saying foreigners can't learn or speak Japanese, or how good a foreigner can speak Japanese.

About robot getting drunk, well, he's not really a robot, at least not in our understanding of robotic technology.

admittedly I do get more annoyed about that star issue since it's IMO the most glaringly illogical and inconsistent part in the series (not that the series lacking in illogical and inconsistent stuffs)... I mean, if this is set in a fantasy world then there's no problem with people becoming stars or constellations or whatever, but obviously this anime is set in a world with a non-fantasy-based universe structure....

To answer all your questions, Hikari and Akari pulled Japan to the center of the North Pole, thus, they can see the same stars night and day.

How Japan continue to be warm in this anime ... well Hikari and Akari caused Japan to have its own atomsphere.

well, im glad they got in "fan service" before they left. and the stars can be the power of Hikari, since her name means "shining"
