Villainess Level 99: I May Be the Hidden Boss but I'm Not the Demon Lord is getting an anime adaptation

Plot:

A certain otome RPG takes place in the Varschein Kingdom, where dark hair is stigmatized to an abnormal degree. Eumiella Dolkness is the daughter of a count, hated from birth due to her pitch-black locks—and she is also the hidden boss! In a twist of fate, at five years of age, Eumiella recalls memories of her past life in Japan. Uninterested in the romance aspect of the original game, she begins to dedicate herself to training her rare dark-type magic.

Despite this, Eumiella's goals are clear: avoid becoming the hidden boss and stay out of the limelight. Upon entering the magic academy, however, she shakes the foundation of the kingdom when her level 99 status comes to light. Whether a physical brawl or magic duel, her abilities are unmatched, and coupled with her black hair, she sticks out like a sore thumb. To make matters worse, the original heroine begins suspecting she is the demon lord! Can the deadpan noble girl achieve her wish of a peaceful life?

I liked the web novel except for its long-time-ago-original apparent ending.

Did the light novel rewrite the story? The web novel felt like:

I'm curious to see how the anime will be. Maybe it'll be rather different from what I first read so everything is not crammed into the very end. Well...I don't even know what is considered the end at this point.

Wow, this is positively the absolute intro to an anime based around an Otome game! We've got the cute and purehearted female lead voiced with aplomb by Azumi Waki who is of course also the first commoner to enroll at a prestigious magic academy because of her rare light magic. And did we mention she's destined to defeat the Demon Lord? We're just checking off all the boxes .

And of course she meets all the romanceable heroes...Oswald the son of a minister voiced by Kohei Amasaki who comes off stern and serious but is secretly nice, William the outgoing and tough son of a general voiced by Haruka Ishiya, and the main male himself Edwin, second prince of the kingdom voiced by Taku Yashiro. Just all the typical guys you would find in an Otome game and who already get off on a good foot with the protagonist (though Alicia and William get a little more testy, but in a cute way) .

Nothing like beating a prince with a broom because you think he's a burglar! Though that just improves Edwin and Alicia's relationship too .

Oh snap, they even did a visual novel intro! Complete with listing the voice cast! We've even got legit married couple Yuma Uchida and Rina Hidaka in the cast! And Ai Fairouz playing another Villainess! Kind of surreal to see a Villainess in the cast that's not the main character .

What a scary introduction to your games' Villainess! Not that she's trying to be intimidating, she's actually fairly polite...though that's probably because she knows what's really going on. Because Yumiella Dolkness (yes, that is her name) isn't just the Villainess, she's actually an reincarnated gamer who actually played the game, courtesy of Truck-kun !

You could say things start out rough for Yumiella...she's born into a family where her parents want nothing to do with her and she's judged harshly pure for her black hair, and she's destined to be the true Hidden Boss of the game. But on the other hand...she has OP Dark Magic powers! Isn't that awesome!? And it's not like she's into the romance aspect of the game so she has no reason to bully Alicia. She can totally make this work .

And like any real gamer she focuses on leveling herself up, especially with how easily she kills monsters. And as a child she's conquering dungeon after dungeon after dungeon until we reach the present day .

Of course Yumiella's plan is utterly ruined when all that leveling up comes back to bite her to reveal her titular Level 99 in front of everybody. There goes her peaceful school life .

Now the real OP actually fits this story to a T, with a hard-hitting rock beat featuring Yumiella trying to make her way in this world amidst all the politics and people around her, getting chummy with the IRL married couples' characters, trying to steer clear of Alicia (though it seems like Rina Hidaka's character is crushing on Edwin, could she turn into a Villainess?), and pairing up with Yuma Uchida's character who seems to be crushing hard on her. Can't blame him !
