Phew. Took me long enough, right?

Hi to you all. Some of you already know me and some don't. So I'll try to make this as boring and long as possible so you will close your browser before getting to the important part. Well... no, I'll try not to, but sometimes I just can't help myself.

Guess I should start by introducing myself, right?

I've been drawing for a while now... maybe what, six or seven years? It's been so long I don't even know. And before you start thinking "This guy must be a great artist", I'll have to say that I'm really not. I love drawing. It's my favorite hobbie and the one I exercise the most. I've always like it, ever since I was a kid: I would sit in a chair and draw for hours and hours. But everything I know about drawing I had to learn myself and through the hardest way - lots of practice and many, many hours of frustration.

I've always wanted to have some good drawing classes to be able to master the many techniques needed to succeed, but I never had the chance to. Added to that is the fact that I one hell of a perfeccionist - it's never good enough, never in the right place and whenever it is, the feeling rarely lasts long. It's pretty though and I have to admit that being like that is a pain in the butt.

That being said... don't expect much out of this topic. As some of you will know... I rarely EVER finish any drawing that I make. I have around three or four sketchbooks around all the time and all of them filled with sketches and half-drawings, but 95% of them are incomplete. I have yet to find why that is, but it's not that I like to procrastinate... it's probably to do with the fact that I will get bored of a drawing once I start to see the flaws in it. "Oh, this hand isn't where it should be... I'll just draw something else" is probably how it goes. And yeah, expect most of the stuff I post in here to be either WIP or MIA... meaning I'm either working on it, or I got sick of it already.

Although I've been lurking around the boards for over a year and have made a topic for myself once, it quickly died out because, well, I'm the type to take criticism much too seriously - especially destructive criticism. With that said, I'll also add that I believe other people's opinions are essential to improvement. So as long as we keep it clean, I won't have to cut myself. ( Just kidding. Not emo. )

So... it is kind of late, so I'll leave adding some of the latest stuff I've done for tomorrow.

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||| ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

04/21/2010 Will you look at that!

10/22 - Update, after a couple (many) months.
This also posted on the third page of the topic.

Alright, so I have been away for what, over three months now?... Wow, pretty lame, right? But I guess I have my reasons, having moved to a new home and with the whole new semester thing, the many assignments and all of that stuff... and perhaps a bit(read: lot) of lazyness to come by and update the thread. But here it goes, hopefully it won't wake long.

So, as I had said before, I've been trying new things out and trying to improve in all four directions. Personally, I think I've managed to get over the clothing problem quite well and, since I don't have to be wondering what goes where, I can simply draw them quickly and fairly accurately at that. Ever since my last post, I have filled an entire 50-page drawing pad full of simple, 1-2 character roughly-finished sketches and a few of them to which I paid a bit more attention. There're obviously quite a lot of them that haven't been and that won't ever be finished, as it's the norm for lazy artists ( I'm still in the club, right? ) and to those who get bored of a drawing fairly quickly like me. I've picked up a few techniques to make simple pencil drawings more appealing, such as slight cross-hatching and simple things like that that diverge a lot of the attention from the outline to the "bigger" picture - or so I think. You be the judge.

I have also been trying to improve with my digital painting skills. I am fairly confident with Cell-shading, but so is everyone else, and so I thought about trying a few things out. I've learned a couple of photoshop skills that I was lacking before, and also started to do my outlines directly in PS itself, without the use of Manga Studio's line-correction tools and things of the sort. I'm doing that mainly for the experience of drawing freehand in an attempt to improve with my pen and ink technique - which is improving slowly, but is improving.

For the future, I plan on starting to focus on scenery and objects. But that's another day...

Anyway, I'll have to post some of the recent drawings later on because, with my new setup, the Scanner was moved to the office and it's on the other side of the house - which means I don't wanna get out of my room at 2:30 in the morning to scan stuff. In the meantime, I'll post the ones I already have scanned. Note that there're a lof of these that're HUGE in size, so they might take a while to load. Reason for this is because I plan/planned to use them as bases to CGs/digital paintings, so...

Disclaimer: I have the custom of drawing my characters naked first, and then designing clothes around them secondly. I think that improves how the finished product would look like. So, since few of these are finished pieces, expect to encounter some nudity. However, it's nothing explicit or anything more than what you'd see on your average 14+ manga.

That one's pretty good ^^
I actually like the hands the most in your picture... It's accurate! =D

Hmm I saw untitled-2 and 4 too...

Edit:
I replied before you edited your post >_>. Erm, I was referring to Untitled-3.

With reference to 2...
"Oh so you used 2 as your avatar~" that's all I'm going to say for now ^^

Lol, thanks for the comments.

But are you talking about the Naruto-spoof I did? I have to admit that I don't think it's all that bad, but I'll have to agree with kayos: "Looks like his hand has no bones at all with exception of his fingers". Need to fix that.

2? Are you cheating? That's a no-no!

Edit: Hah, yeah. It was a CG I was working on, but I kinda gave up on it. Didn't get the Moon well enough to feel good about it.

Thanks D:

And if I recommend it? Hell yeah. The thing with Manga Studio is that it not only allows you to sketch in pencil, it gives you all the tools you need to make a complete manga, nice and easy. The thing is that you probably need a tablet to work with it. But if you're persistent, like I was when I started to play with it, you can even do it using the mouse, since it has this wonderful feature called Line Correction that'll correct your lines for you gradatively.

And like I said, there's really little chance that I'll actually finish these. I already have around 4-5 other drawings that I'm working on little by little, so...

Though I am getting a lot of requests to finish the neko-mimi one... I'll think about it :P

Edit: Posted some new ones in my first post. Flame away.

So.. I'm thinking that you're using a pad to sketch these things and it auto-maps your sketch into the manga program? Cuz that's insanely good with a mouse if you aren't lol.

Personally, I really like your style. I'm no artist or anything, but it looks great to me. The uh.. neko girls are definitely awesome

I see wotcha mean in that you hardly draw any clothing :3. I dunno if this would help or not but maybe you could try just drawing some different clothing styles on like a basic body form. Like don't put so much emphasis into the face or the bands or anything.. just experiment with some different styles on like a mannequin type drawing. I dunno if that'd help or not.. maybe you're kinda antsy about clothes. But I think if you're going to seriously go into an art field as a career with the manga style.. being able to draw clothing is probably a necessity for most of the jobs :P.

Worst comes to worst you could always stick with skin tight stuff.. jumpsuits or something. That's kinda what it looks like most of the non-clothed figures are in. In any case, I'm impressed. Keep up the great work. ^.^

Oh, actually I do have a tablet and all of those drawings were done directly on Manga Studio. I personally think I can draw better on paper, but it's easier and cleaner to use the program, so...

And thanks! It's pretty rare that I get someone who likes my style, I don't know why, since I don't think it's all that bad. Most people find it strange, lol.

And my thing with clothing is that not only it takes hours to do... I'm really a zero when it comes to fashion. I can draw school uniforms and basic things... but meh, drawing that every time sucks lots. I CAN draw them, I just can't draw them well... so... meh.

And yeah, I stayed a while on tight clothing... It works on women, but definitely not on men... So I'll see how I'll do in the future.

Sorry, I've been up for around 36 hours... need to get my sleeping habits back and quick. Not really in the position to be typing all that well D:

Thanks for your comments. Really appreciate it.

Edit: Attending to a request done by a female ( yes, female ) friend... I did a hentai piece. I'd like to have someone's opinion on it, so if you wanna see it let me know and I'll PM it to you :P Gotta be 18+ though, I think not even Japanese manga artists get this intense, lol.

Lol, didn't know you had a thread here. Nice to see that you're still drawing (unlike me xD)~

I don't have problems with your style. It's quite refreshing actually, seeing a more realistic take than what we mostly see (3-inch eyes) Though I'm guilty of following 3-inch eye style. -.-

As for tight clothes on men, comic book heroes wear them all the time, it's fine!! It takes a real man to wear spandex!! Just kidding.
Looking at clothes while walking around the street works sometimes. Be sure not to stare though, I've got noticed a few times because of that. Don't look at men though -.-
Then there's actually pausing anime when you see something really nice. I know I was pausing like a madman whenever Anju appeared with a new gosurori outfit. xD

Yowzers, 8000px*6000px??? My PC is already coughing from time to time at 2000px*3000px

D: Thanks Celcius.

And yeah, I've tried looking around on the street to see what people are wearing, but the thing is... I don't go out much, and when I do I'm usually either driving my car or a shopping cart So it's hard to pay attention to other stuff. It was easier when I was having classes, but like you said... staring = no good. Besides the fact that I sometimes stare blankly at people for maybe minutes, and yet I'm thinking about something that's nothing to do with them. And it freaks people out, lol!

And yep... I had to go get a new PC to handle those sizes, I like the freedom of being able to go wherever I wanna go, which doesn't happen often when I'm drawing by hand. "Whut, corner? Sh!t!".

And why aren't you drawing anymore? Zero demands an explanation.

Nice drawings.

You are good at drawing different character poses and from different angle too (mine always looks similar). I would like to see more coloured pictures though (I prefer coloured :P) but that would mean you need to put clothes on your characters first...

btw, 8000x6000px is huge...I usually just go for 1000-2000 and my computer already takes a long time to load when I try to zoom in and out after I created about 15 layers. Would probably take 10mins to load if I try to zoom in/out with 8000x6000...lol

@p997tt:

Thanks I try to go different angles and different positions because I spent too much time drawing in awfully plain scenes. I think it was someone here at ASuki that noticed that and gave me a hard time about it So I've been trying to diversify.

And, well, I'm not really a coloring person actually, since it's pretty rare that I even get to finish the outline, so... But anyway, I think you're lucky today because... I just spent 12 hours on a CG yesterday

It was supposed to be a simple black/white drawing that I'd turn into a banner for my upcoming Drawing guide... but well, it backfired. Since it was done 100% using the brush tool in Photoshop, much of the lineart wasn't proper for CGing. The best I could get out of it was a speedpaint... but since I'm stupid, I kept going, lol. The result were hours and hours of fixing ugly lines and doing things I had already done over and over. Of the 12 hours I spent working on it, almost non-stop, I think around 6 of them were spent fixing the outline.

But I think it was worth it, because it's probably my best painting yet. Note that there're some things I still need to fix, it's not the finished product. And also note that I have absolutely NO eye for perspective

http://www.kidoutenshi.net/random/Untitled-12.jpg

Tell me what you think, please

Also, I've added another sketch to the original post.

Andddd, so you guys don't think I'm lying...

Not 8000x6000... but almost

I'm not very good at giving people critiques but so far I don't see anything wrong with that picture. I gave up celshading a long time ago so I can't really give much advice/comments. Also since the picture is not finished yet, I assume you will add some shadings to the background?

Well thanks

And yeah, not only that but I need to work on the frame and some reflections on the glass. I'll see what I can do about the one-toned sky, but I'm really bad with that kind of thing so I might just leave it as it is. I don't have much to say about it either, I'm just not comfortable with the perspective.

Annnd, seems like I have a new one everyday doesn't it? I've updated the first post with a new one, check it out.

I haven't been doing too much drawing ever since I went MIA at Asuki. Must've been a combination of needing to relearn basics but being too lazy and being lazy too draw. I've been working up a storm recently though, but it seems to be slowing down. ^^

Oh wow, Zero you actually drew clothes this time~ ^^
Good job I must say. Amazing attention to details.
Though I probably am the suckiest person alive to give comments (I need to re-study my basics first before I can properly give proper comments), I'll say that the side view head seems a bit too narrow.

Oh, I see. So we're the same, right? I just came out of the slumber in these past two weeks or so and most of the drawings I posted were done during that time. Since December, all I've done is observe and read. I've grabbed a lot of anatomy books and spent a lot of time analyzing pictures and stuff. And I hope you get some time/motivation to continue. I really enjoy your stile.

And yep! I drew clothes! I actually think that the reason I don't draw clothes is not because I can't draw them, but because I get bored of the drawing before I can actually come up with something . Anyway yep, I try to get the most detail out of my drawings... that's probably the reason why my underdrawings are always naked.

You mean the girl on the right? Hmm, I see what you mean, but I actually think it's her hair that makes it look like so. She has large locks of hair that come down the sides of the face ( like most neko-mimis ), and they normally cover part of her face.

BUT, if you really do think her face is too narrow, let me know and I'll see what I can do. As always, thanks for the comments!

Edit:

Just updated the last one I did. It's coming along well, don't you think?

BANZAI!

Zero's first officially finished piece in over a year! I'd like to thank my mom, my dad, and all of those who supported me with the exception of Pedobear.

Ehem. Anyway, here it is:

http://www.kidoutenshi.net/Images/dr...e_File05mq.jpg

It's medium quality, not as large as the original picture. But that's to save space and to reduce the grainy look of things when you export them out of Manga Studio. I'd love your comments on it as well.

Annnd, I was supposed to add a background to it, but I figured I'd just start having a lot of trouble with it and would eventually abbandon the project. Maybe next time, right?

Wow impressive I could never draw like that I can just copy others' designs and draw those

This really deserves a cookie, but I need to spread around more

Here's a virtual cookie instead lol
