I'm surprised that no one has mentioned Evangelion yet. More specifically, episode 18, where Commander Ikari orders Eva-01 to disembowel and destroy Eva 0.3 against Shinji's will. Oh man... that scene was so horrifying to me I was crying from shock and sadness. Possibly the most moving moment in anime for me.
Otherwise... -SaiKano -Grave of the Fireflies -Utena ep.29 (Juri/Ruka story is so touching) and ep.39 -KareKano -Escaflowne TV |

That Cowboy Bebop song said "Tasting tears for all that it's worth" which means to me that in order to "Make the most of this moment alive" you have to do something that capable of moving your emotions to the point of crying... happy and sad and both.
It sounds a bit silly, but anime will do that for fans of the genre... though of course there should be more constructive in a person's life to be passionate about. Fansubbed anime doesn't take too much time or resources compared to other hobbies, so I doubt if I'll ever have a reason to stop watching it. well anyways thought that needed to be said. And to reply to the OP, looking at my avatar, I remembered the very moving scene in Mahou Tsukai Tai where Nanaka Spoiler:

I only cry if the scenes are emotionally moving, not when they're intentionally depressing or stark (like in Grave of the Fireflies or Now and Then, Here and There, those shows made me feel bad, but I didn't cry over them). So that said, I shed tears when everyone started fighting each other in Escaflowne near the end (that was probably the most powerful scene I've ever seen in an anime). Every ep of Kiminozo except the first two made me shed tears at some point. And I cried during Kanon as well.

Eh, a lot of the World Theater whatever stories you mentioned are extremely well known in America.
I saw pretty much all of them, and I'd wager a good majority of America has seen them. I never knew they were important anime's but there ya go. I'm sure many people in this forum have seen it when they were younger, but they might not remember it. |
