An easy mistake to do with Japan is to think that the time of Samurai's are a far distant past the realm of legends, similar to King Arthur, Robin Hood etc. It's actually somewhat helpful as a counter to that with the mix in with European history in this series. We got well known historic events like the Spanish Armada, sacking of Magdeburg (part of the 30 year war) etc to put the Japanese history into a time frame.

Anyone can come up with a good english counterpart for 長寿族?

It's actually a race of people having a great longevity (can live up to few thousand years). At first, I was thinking of elves because of their pointy-ear characteristic but still doesn't sound right. I have an impression that elves inhabits forest or some place with nature, but 長寿族 can be found in many places.

What are you going to call 半寿族 then? Half immortal sounds kinda funky.

I haven't read past the...2nd chapter of the first book, so I didn't know about the existence of 半寿族, but we can call them the Perennials. I guess?

Small question, is there a better way to translate 神隠し than mysterious disappearance?

I'd think there's a small nuance about being taken, but not really sure how to phrase it.

神隠し is usually translated into spirited away in English due to the famed Ghibli movie with the same title, and lol at 変態野郎 XD.

I just realized, 犬鬼 should be kobold. It fits the kanji meaning too. I guess I was too distracted by 変態野郎 to notice that one lol.
