then those are Touhou characters.

Reference pic (it's not the pic of the banner, it would take a while because there are thousands of them around) but you can see they're the same characters:

Yes, a game series. Its characters inspired a huge amount of fanarts. We even have a Touhou Image thread on AnimeSuki (perhaps even the source pic of this banner might be among those images). Also inspired an anime adaptation , albeit on the form of a simple 20 minutes OVA.

Wasn't there Touhou anime announced a while back though ? I don't remember the details or if any details were even given but I did watch some trailer at Youtube.

Hey, thanks for the info. So the game is in english too or just japanese? Had a quick glance at the wiki and developers site and didn't notice any 'english' releases. Anyways, looks kinda cool.

The AS banner at the top of the forum page rotates through a number of images. The one I was curious about was what looked like 3 Kitsune. Although looking at the picture Pellisar linked again, I'm kinda having second thoughts if it is them or not. Might just be different art styles...

They're indeed just different art styles. But, surprise, I've managed to find the original source of that pic! (click to enlarge)

From Touhou, left to right: Yakumo Yukari, Chen, Yakumo Ran.
