How was that scene inconsistent with the previous four episodes? And having some details differ from the novel is not a problem per se. A written novel and an animated series are completely different mediums, you may have to change stuff to make the adaptation work.

Also according to this post the changes to the novel are huge. Shigeyasu Yamauchi, please never direct a show/episode I'm watching again. |

It makes absolutely no sense to kill the guardian skaven, because he was pimping, and instead of continue what he was obstructing them from, try to escape... Their objective was different from the course of action they took! Generally speaking though, I have to agree that because TV anime are anonymously accessible, studios have to restrain their staff, since a lot of immature might get the wrong idea... however annoying that is |

Inconsistent with the novel, but not the anime. Please understand that this is adapted, not a 1:1 translation. You've done this a lot, focusing on the depiction of the sex instead of the intent. Acts of intimacy, even if she stopped in the anime while the novel went a little further, were depicted. So the point of the novel, which is that the bonobo gene kicks in when they are stressed, was made and enforced by the flashback to the librarian.
So please, for pete's sake, enough with the "it's being censored because immature people can't handle graphic violence and twelve year old sex" crap.

I have to agree to being puzzled to the change in art style ... but who knows, perhaps it will become clearer in a few eps (just as all the clips in eps 1-3 became clearer in ep. 4, as an example).
Such a good storyline thus far. Really excellent.

Solace, the story (until now) is about kids discovering the real world, as per the second part of my post it must be clear that the anime wants to tone down how uncomfortable this process is and sugar-coat the whole thing so some immature adults can buy the DVDs.
I hope that future episode directors, will refrain from prioritizing sales over the story. |

Serious stories can still be serious without going into graphic detail about sex and violence. Sometimes it's the tease, the hint, the implication, that gets audiences interested and understanding of what is going on. Just because one source may have more of something, does not immediately mean that another having less of it means it is inferior. I do not need to see Saki performing on Satoru to get the gist of what is going on. If you do, oh well. Learn Japanese and read the book, or go download the manga and fap to it. Sorry if I'm being rude or harsh, but I'm not particularly keen on coming to this subforum every day and seeing these threads derailed by people who are unhappy with the depiction of the sex and violence of the anime. You want more? Go to the other materials. Don't continue to drag it up here. I know it's hard to believe, but there is more to the story than these things. You know, the story. That thing not talked about much because people are more focused on who is boning who and how much of it is shown.

RIP Monk
aw, was looking to some hot saki x satarou action, oh well. Even though Saki got the flashback about that snail's explanation. And made the excuse of being watched. I thought her line was saying that she was fine with going through with the sex. Series is really different now that it got to some serious stuff. Seeing the queerrats or whatever up close and personal is pretty frightening. I don't get what happened at the end. Satarou was hacking at the ceiling, and felt some kind of sticky substance, then had a sense of dread, then it started caving in. Was it water? I still think there ability isn't really sealed, its just a mental block right now. Probably something will happen, and one of the two will reflexively try to use their power, and it suddenly work to their surprise.

pretty strange reaction from you don't you think? am not really in the habit of arguing for the sake of arguing, but that just makes me curious, so what then? |

The scene would've worked better if Saki and Satoru had removed some clothes before stopping, but I don't thing the way it was portrayed was bad. And we don't know yet whether the series is going to shy away from sexuality as a whole, or if this was a special case due to the age of the characters. |

For those that are curious about what happened in that place...this is the actual description of what happened in that particular scene...thx to sybv at MAL
In the novel, that thought (that Library told her that humans were taken to be more like bonobos) also came to Saki and she also denied humans are like bonobos, BUT the critical difference is that Saki then went through all the education she went through and thought about what it means to her present society AND DECIDED IT IS ALRIGHT AFTER ALL. But when she was thinking her action stopped, prompting Satoru to ask what happened, and then Saki and Satoru just continued their action. It was only later that Saki noticed they were being watched by the guarding queerat, and here it merges back with the anime. See how it is so subtly changed to mean completely different thing in the anime?? Last edited by Solace; 2012-10-28 at 04:08. Reason: Removed the added detail. |

Wow, this episode was intense from beginning to end. I was at the edge of my seat the whole time.
Also, I'm getting really tired of novel readers giving hints and pretend suggestions in this thread. I would prefer to find out things on my own, not pushed in whatever direction that novel readers who can't seem to control themselves and must share and spoil for everyone. If you must share and spoil, please go to the Spoilers and Speculations thread or the Novels Thread and have a field day there. Thank you. As for the episode, becase of the art, I kept thinking that the person with Saki was Shun the whole time. It really surprised me that it was Satoru. Satoru acted out of character from what we have previously seen of him. He has been mostly whiny and complaining a lot. Now, all of a sudden, he is Mr. Take Charge? I really did think that it was Shun throughout the episode. Quote:
-The long tube really seemed organic, so there is a probability that it is part of the queen. It seems a lot like breeding tubes, where maybe eggs are pushed through. -Satoru only knew of one way in, hence he went back in that direction hoping to find a way out. If he went anywhere else, he could up lost in the tunnels and worse, maybe trapped as well. -It was explained in the beginning that the Ground Spider colony appeared to have evolved in ways where there is gunpowder in their systems, or least some of their members had it. Hence, the gas we saw was most likely sulfur or some sort of gunpowder. -Hence, Satoru figured that the gas would explode from what was previously stated. The kids are probably under hypnosis right now, so my guess is they have to find a way to break that hypnosis. I'm not sure if they can do that to one another, or if someone else will have to intervene on their behalf. As for the others, they all went their separate ways, so most likely in hiding as well.

I don't mind people drawing compare/contrasts between anime scenes and the same scene in the novel, but anything that pertains to future novel events I'd rather find out for myself in time. Something to keep in mind - There's nothing unusual with characters going back and forth on questions like the Bonobos question. I'd like to see for myself how the characters work that out for themselves. In the end, I might agree with Saki, or I might disagree with her, but either way, I'd like to see her grapple with these issues herself, and not learn about them second-hand through spoilers and "hints" and "suggestions".

the art feels weird but not too bad, as there are lots of actions (mostly running)
in my opinion, Saki wanted to stop and simply pointed to that guard as an excuse, i guess she does not want to be same with bonobos (or she prefers Shun?), if that differs from the source, so be it anyway i agree this episode did not explain many of their actions and the things around them
