Clarami and Dr. Casey - Thanks a lot for the great and thorough reviews!

I think my favorite possible "dynamic duo" out of all the possible Puella Magi pairs, is Mami and Sayaka. By this, I mean my favorite duo for combat/action scenes. They're both generally upbeat characters with very close moral alignments, so that really enlivens their action scenes together and gives them a sort of female equivalent to a bromance, lol. I also like how Mami is the cool, calm, collected, slick, smooth, stylish veteran who Sayaka looks up to, while Sayaka is much more prone to powerful mood swings and impassioned attacks (which can be impressive to the generally more reserved Mami). That contrast fits well with Mami as the long-range musketeer and Sayaka as the close-ranged sword-wielding knight. I think the two really compliment each other well.

Well, I thank both of you for your feedback and suggestions! In particularly, I'm glad that Kyousuke Kamijo as a heroic protagonist came off as well as I had hoped. It's good to see this property have a teenaged male hero for a change of pace.

I hope to have another chapter of Mami Lives up soon. Probably within 2 or 3 days.

There actually already is a harem ending on the Canon Route side (i.e. the side in which Mami dies in accordance with what happened in the anime itself), but it's pretty deep into the Canon Route side. I should have brought that up to you before, lol. I hope you enjoy it.

As for Mami Romance, there's some ideas I'm floating in my head. A sort of Homura/Madoka/Mami ending is possible. Sayaka won't be involved though, since...

Sayaka is now either crippled or deeply in a romance with Kyousuke Kamijo. I don't see Sayaka being interested in a harem setup in either of these cases.

aw, its not quite a harem route due to the lacking of one certain character...
and I guess I should have seen that it was unlikely for sayaka to get involved in a harem route at this point(I got that idea planned out before reading the latest update, and well sayaka's got insane regen so I assumed...)

well im going to finish mami lives routes first since, well, its going to be finished first and I dont want to get my choices become mixed and complicated. gugh, tough decisions.

Mami Lives Chapter 12
Mami Romance

“Madoka… you probably want to be sitting for this.”

That statement from Mami certainly perked up my ears, and made me eager to hear what she had to say!

Given Mami’s melancholic and guilt-ridden tone of voice, I prepared myself for the worst. But even then, I was shocked and dismayed by what I heard…

My phone conversation with Mami didn’t last long. Once I heard the horrid news, I raced off in a flash to meet up with Mami!

I explained to my mama that I needed to see Mami right away about something important.

“Is it anything we can help with, Madoka?” Papa asked, in his wonderfully calm and caring and soothing tone of voice that thankfully managed to ease my frenzied nerves a bit.

But this was not something I wanted to drag my mama and papa into.

“Don’t worry.” I replied to papa, “I can handle it. It’s… personal. I’ll be back as soon as possible, Ok?”

“Ok, Madoka, but please give us a call after you take care of whatever this is.” Mama interjected in a slightly concerned tone of voice.

I hated worrying my mama like this, but it was unfortunately the only choice I had at the moment.

After a few minutes of sprinting away from my home, I would meet up with Mami. Mami had a pensive look of shame on her face, as she stood uneasily against a light post, with her arms held behind her back. Her face was reddened and her eyes appeared to be sore. It was clear that she had been crying some.

“I’m sorry, Madoka.” she said, with a moist look to her eyes, “Please forgive me for what’s happened.”

“It’s Ok.” I replied warmly to Mami, as I gave her a quick hug to reassure her that I wouldn’t hold this against her.

“But given what you told me over the phone, I want to see Sayaka right away!” I exclaimed, betraying how desperate I felt at the moment.

“Right. Of course.” Mami replied, “Please follow me.”

Mami then lead me, while holding my hand, into a most wondrous room…

The feel of this room is strange. A pendulum swings overhead, enchantingly but also menacingly. Random and mostly unfamiliar images float about the room, but I think that they are somehow meant to represent the Puella Magi world. I think that most are of witches! Circular colourful seating arrangements are arrayed in a pattern throughout the room.

But what’s most noticeable is a makeshift bed right in the middle of the room, the two people gathered around it, and the barely conscious person lying on it. That person is Sayaka!

One of the two people gathered around Sayaka I recognize. That person is Homura. But the other person is a girl with long red hair tied up in a ponytail, and she is wearing jean shorts and a top.

“Man…” the redheaded girl says, while scratching the back of her head, “I still can’t think of how we should handle this!”

“It is a difficult situation.” Homura replied, “It will not be easy to explain this to Miki-san’s parents…”

“Ma-Madoka…” I hear Sayaka say weakly to me, as she managed to catch a glimpse of me standing next to Mami, and just behind Homura.

“Sayaka-chan!” I cry out, as I desperately push by Homura and the redheaded girl in order to fall to my knees next to Sayaka’s bedside and wrap my arms around her head and shoulders.

Homura and the redheaded girl then became quiet as I spoke with Sayaka.

“I… I guess I messed up pretty badly, huh?” Sayaka asked rhetorically, while she turned her head closer to mine.

“Don’t worry about that…” I replied, while shaking my head back and forth, “We’ll find a way to fix your leg. We will find a way to make you better again...”

And then I lifted my head and looked up to Homura for hope and reassurance.

“…Right?” I asked of Homura.

Homura and the redheaded girl both looked uncertain and uneasy over the question.

“Madoka…” Homura began softly and uneasily, looking at me with deep love and sympathy in her eyes, “I… We will do whatever we can for Sayaka. But it is… doubtful that Sayaka’s leg can be restored.”

“There is one quick and certain way to restore it.” came the sudden voice of Kyubuey, appearing out of the shadows.

Homura looked nothing short of enraged over Kyubuey’s words here.

“No.” she said forcefully to him, her typically cool and calm exterior barely containing the rage and dread that I could feel seeping out through her, “Madoka will not be making a contract with you!”

“Then Sayaka’s leg is likely lost for good.” Kyubey replied, “As potent as her regeneration abilities are, it cannot restore an entire lost limb.”

“Maybe I should…” I began, openly considering Kyubey’s implied suggestion.

“Please, Madoka, no…!” Homura exclaimed, as her face betrayed severe concern and worry on her part.

“This is one time when I agree with Akemi-san.” Mami stated, a bit coldly, but then with her tone gradually warming as she focused more on me, “We all feel terrible about how Sayaka lost a leg while battling a witch alongside me. I especially feel terrible and deeply sorry over that. But if you could not bring yourself to wish Hitomi Shizuki back from the grave, then…”

Mami didn’t have a cold enough heart to finish her sentence, given that Sayaka was here with us, but her meaning was clear. I have to admit that there was a cold, but compelling, logic to her words.

“Mami’s right.” the redheaded girl said to me, with a strange mix of cool detachment but also slight pity, “You and I haven’t met before, but Mami has told me some about you. You have a good and happy and prosperous family. Someone like you shouldn’t become a magical girl. I get that you want to help Sayaka, but the cost is just too great for someone like you.”

This redheaded girl made good points as well.

“…You’re probably right.” I replied with a deep tone of regret and sadness, given Sayaka’s current state, before I looked up at the redheaded girl, “What’s your name, by the way?”

“Sakura.” she replied, “Kyouko Sakura. Nice to meetcha. …Too bad it’s not under better circumstances.”

“These circumstances are little in comparison to what Walpurgis Night will bring.” Kyubey stated, “Circumstances that Madoka…”

“Shut up!” Homura exploded angrily at Kyubey, before briefly gritting her teeth and shaking violently, “Stop trying to drag…”

Both of the two people gathered around Sayaka I recognized. One is Homura. The other is Mami’s former friend and partner, Kyouko.

“Hi again.” she said with uneasy sympathy, as she immediately turned her attention to Mami and me as we entered this strange room, “Madoka, listen, we…”

I could feel Kyouko’s brashness fade away a bit right now. I could tell how badly she felt over the situation. But she trailed off, finding it hard to know what to say right now. She scratched the back of her head a bit, and sighed roughly.

That’s fine, because my focus right now is elsewhere.

“Ma-Madoka…” I hear Sayaka say weakly to me, as she managed to catch a glimpse of me standing next to Mami, and just behind Homura.

“Sayaka-chan!” I cry out, as I desperately push by Homura and Kyouko in order to fall to my knees next to Sayaka’s bedside and wrap my arms around her head and shoulders.

“…Right?” I asked, as my eyes shifted back and forth between Homura and Kyouko.

Homura stared off slightly, unsure of what to say. Kyouko then spoke up.

“Look, we all feel terrible about what’s happened to Sayaka.” Kyouko said, “But we have to face facts here. Sayaka’s leg… was sliced off by some damn familiar. I don’t think even Sayaka can regenerate from that.”

“She can’t.” came the sudden voice of Kyubey, appearing out of the shadows, “As potent as Sayaka’s regeneration abilities are, it cannot restore an entire lost limb. But one of us here could restore it quickly and without question. And that person is you, Madoka.”

“Maybe I should…” I began, openly considering Kyubey’s implied suggestion.

“This furball over here can be a bit annoying sometimes…” Kyouko sneered, as she sternly walked towards Kyubey, and lifted him up by his left ears.

“Don’t you try to con her into being a magical girl, you hear me!” she shouted at Kyubey, “You’re not doing to her what you did to me!”

“You confuse me. How did I ‘con’ you?” Kyubey asked, “Your wish was granted perfectly. So would any wish made by Madoka.”

“Kyubey…” interjected Mami, sounding cross with him, “You shouldn’t act so callous. You as well as I know what the ultimate outcome of Kyouko’s wish was.”

“And I’m not going to let someone like Madoka suffer a similar fate.” Kyouko said, in a strangely sombre and mournful tone for her, “So leave her out of it!”

Kyouko then laid Kyubey back down, while I think Homura breathed a sigh of relief. A part of me was filled with curiosity over what wish Kyouko might have made in becoming a Puella Magi, and also over the specifics of her wish sadly going poorly for her. But out of respect for Kyouko’s privacy, I didn’t question her on it. But Kyubey had his own question for Kyouko.

“If I ‘leave Madoka out of it’, will Mitakihara Town be able to withstand Walpurgis Night?” asked Kyubey.

Homura’s eyes appeared to flare up in anger, while Mami’s eyes look increasingly concerned, at the very mention of this ‘Walpurgis Night’.

“Walpurgis Night…” I said briefly to myself, “What is that, Kyubey?”

“Madoka, it’s better if you don’t…” Homura began.

“No, she deserves to learn fully about it.” Mami interjected, “Especially now.”

Kyubey then explained to me what this “Walpurgis Night” is. What he explained… was so completely horrifying to me! It was just like that one witch I had a dream about that threatened to destroy all of Mitakihara Town.

“S-Somebody has to stop that!” I exclaimed, over hearing about the threat that Walpurgis Night posed.

“We will.” Homura stated firmly, “The three of us Puella Magi still standing will defeat Walpurgis Night.”

And that brought my focus back to the Puella Magi that was no longer standing, and that might never stand again…


Homura, Kyouko, Mami, and Sayaka herself all eventually came to an agreement on how to explain Sayaka’s severe injury without revealing the fact that Sayaka is a Puella Magi.

Mitakihara Town is a picturesque utopia in many ways, but it also has large industrial areas and powerful factories. Some of these factories hold sharp and potentially dangerous machinery. Homura and Mami will set it up to appear as though Sayaka lost her leg while trying to rescue a wounded kitten from such machinery. Going by Homura’s fictional account, Sayaka lost her leg and went unconscious shortly thereafter.

A “strange redheaded girl” found the horribly injured Sayaka, but since she didn’t know who Sayaka is, she just applied immediate first aid to her and tried to rush her to a safe location. This redheaded girl then tried to walk Sayaka back home the following morning, until they both ran into Mami. Mami, recognizing Sayaka, would bring Sayaka the rest of the way to her home, and that’s when they would tell Kotetsu Miki about what happened to his daughter.

That was ‘the story’ that everybody settled on, to be told tomorrow. Sayaka would rest and heal in this strange room overnight, with Kyouko watching over her. Tomorrow, Kyouko, Mami, and Sayaka would all enact their roles to make the story better fit the facts.

Knowing that I don’t like to lie, Homura and Mami told me that I didn’t need to confirm their account, but just refrain from contradicting it. I would have to act shocked over hearing about Sayaka’s injury the following morning, and pretend to know nothing about it beforehand.


Just before leaving to go back home late this Tuesday night, I called my parents and told them that everything was Okay. When papa asked me about what emergency it was that caused me to leave home in such a panic, I went blank on how to answer that. I started to stutter in trying to think of something to say that would be convincing, not too revealing, but also not a complete lie! Thankfully, Mami interjected here on my behalf, grabbing my cellphone from my hand to talk to my papa.

“My deepest apologies for causing you concern, Mr. Kaname.” Mami said with such pristinely perfect politeness, “I’m a bit embarrassed to say that I lost a precious family heirloom, and so I called Madoka to try to help me find it. That was admittedly a bit selfish of me, but I really did need the help in searching for it.”

Mami then told my parents that I was a big help to her in finding the family heirloom. Thankfully, my parents bought the story.


The following Wednesday morning came, and I went to school while Kyouko, Mami, and Sayaka all played their various roles. In accordance with the plan, I acted very shocked and dismayed when I heard of Sayaka’s severe injury. I then visited her right away, while Sayaka explained to me what happened to her leg.

Kotetsu Miki was pacing about, clearly distraught over what to do. Nanami Miki kept asking Sayaka if she was Ok, and showed her a lot of care while Sayaka rested in bed. Kotetsu and Nanami debated over whether or not to bring Sayaka to the hospital. Before they came to a conclusion, I left Sayaka’s home for the day.

After leaving Sayaka’s place on Wednesday evening, I decided to pay Mami a late evening visit. Mami invited me into her home, and she served the two of us some tea. We sat snuggly next to each other in front of her transparent triangular table.

“Well, it looks like your plan worked out well, Mami.” I said to her, trying to lighten the mood, given how sad and depressed Mami and I both felt.

“Yes, and I’m glad it did.” Mami replied, “But that plan only serves as a cover-up. It will not give Sayaka her leg back…”

I heard Mami sniffle a bit, and a lone tear seep out of one of her eyes. It was clear that Mami felt very badly over what had happened to Sayaka. I think that Mami was blaming herself for it.

“It’s Ok, Mami…” I said, as softly and sweetly as I could, as I wrapped my arms around her side and rested my head on her shoulder, “Sayaka told me about how incredible you were in defeating that ghastly Golden Witch in order to save her! Sayaka lost a leg, but thanks to you, she’s still alive!”

“If not for me, she would still have both of her legs.” Mami replied, “I… I never should have dragged you and Sayaka into the world of magical girls and witches. That was very irresponsible of me.”

Mami’s words here caused my heart to hurt. I then explained precisely why that was to Mami.

“No, that’s wrong.” I responded forcefully, “That’s completely wrong!”

Mami looked a bit taken aback by my outburst.

“B-but Madoka, how…” Mami began in atypically unsure reply.

“If you hadn’t brought Sayaka and me into your world, you would have still been all alone, without friends and loved ones.” I interjected, “I wouldn’t want that for you, Mami!”

“That’s very kind of you to say, Madoka.” Mami began in reply, “But I would not selfishly put my happiness ahead of Sayaka’s basic well-being. So…”

“Then consider what you’ve done for me.” I interjected, “Thanks to you… I have the most wonderful girlfriend I could ever ask for. The thought of not having you in my life… it breaks my heart. Physical injuries are very bad, but the thought of your heart being lonely, and mine being broken, is just as bad, if not worst. I will always be glad for having met you, and I hope we’ll always be together.”

Mami started crying over my words to her, and I could feel my eyes water as well. Mami and I then warmly embraced each other. Mami thanked me profusely for being such a perfect friend and girlfriend in her eyes. We then shared a soft, long, and tender kiss.

Shortly afterwards, I left to go home.

Given Mami’s energetic and bubbly tone of voice, barely hiding her great excitement, I prepared myself for a huge but pleasant surprise! But even then, I was shocked and awed by what I heard…

Kyousuke Kamijou had become a Puella Magi! Well, no, he’s not a girl, so the very term “Puella Magi” might have to change. For now, I guess “magical human” would fit Kamijou best. And from what Mami told me, Kamijou had been very magical to Sayaka in particular.

I felt so good and happy for Sayaka that her once unimaginable dreams were now coming true!

And with Sayaka’s dreams realized, I gained greater hope and confidence that Mami’s dreams will be realized as well.

“See, Mami, the dreams of both Sayaka and Kamijou will now be realized.” I stated to her, “And so I’m sure that we can achieve your dreams too!”

“Thank you, Madoka.” Mami replied warmly to me, “I really hope that you’re right!”

Mami told me that all of the Puella Magi in the area would be holding a special meeting after school to discuss how best to fit Kyousuke Kamijou into the wider Puella Magi world. But Mami said that with Kyousuke Kamijou now fully a part of that world as a magic-wielder himself, that she will likely be able to take a complete break from being a Puella Magi very soon.

“At last, Madoka, there will be more time for just the two of us.” Mami said, “Finally I will regain the normal life that I have longed for!”

“I hope that I will be an important part of that life for you.” I replied.

“Of course you will be.” Mami reassured me, “In fact, you will be the most important part of it, my love.”

Just as Sayaka Miki had become the most important part of Kyousuke Kamijou’s life….


It was Wednesday afternoon, and now the five magical teenagers of Mitakihara Town have gathered into an equally magical room.

The feel of this room is normally strange, but right now it is a very fitting setting for its colourful and unusually upbeat occupants. A pendulum swings overhead, which strikes me as symbolizing how the pendulum has swung decisively in our favor. Esoteric images float about the room, all of them going back to one aspect or another of the Puella Magi world. Most are of witches, I believe. Circular colourful seating arrangements are arrayed in a pattern throughout the room, and the five of us sit on them in a circular formation of our own.

“Interesting.” stated an amused Kyousuke Kamijou, “Here I sit; a teenaged male holding magical superpowers. With me are four equally powerful teenaged girls, remarkably diverse in their appearances, even their hair colour. But for all of that diversity, each is very attractive in her own way. Is it just me, or have I become a harem lead in an anime show?”

“Ky-Kyousuke!” protested Sayaka shyly at this smooth, yet questionable, observation on Kyousuke’s part.

I have to admit that I myself am amused and flattered by his observation. I blush slightly as I sip tea.

“Don’t worry.” said Kyousuke, with such impeccable boyish charm as he turned his face towards Sayaka’s, her sitting next to him, “In every harem anime, the first girl always wins. So your victory in this harem is assured.”

Kyousuke playfully winked at Sayaka during that last line, which made Sayaka blush a deep red, particularly since Kyousuke also lovingly placed one hand over hers as he said it.

“I wouldn’t be so sure about that.” Kyouko interjected, after initially looking a bit nauseated by Kyousuke’s romanticism, but now smiling widely as pocky hanged out of her mouth, “Doesn’t the confident, fiery redheaded tsundere tend to win in those types of shows?”

“Wh-what is that supposed to mean, Kyouko?!” Sayaka protested, while Kyousuke chuckled nervously.

Kyouko exploded in laughter herself.

“You’re so easy to troll, Sayaka!” Kyouko exclaimed with a toothy grin, “But don’t worry. I’m a lone wolf! I have no intention of getting tied down to any man.”

“Given what I wished for, it’s more like that I’m tied to Sayaka.” Kyousuke said.

“What do you mean?” asked Akemi-san, as this last line intrigued her.

“Well, if you want to know, then I’ll gladly…” Kyousuke shared, before being interrupted.

“Kyousuke, please, it’s a bit embarrassing...” Sayaka interrupted, while scratching the back of her head, chuckling a bit, and continuing to blush.

“It’s nothing for you to be embarrassed about.” Kyousuke replied, “You should be proud of it, Sayaka.”

“Why should Sayaka be proud of your wish?” asked Akemi-san, becoming increasingly curious here.

“Because she inspired it.” Kyousuke stated, “Let me explain.”

“Sayaka, and her invaluable Dai-Sensei Mami Tomoe, have made an incredible difference in my life.” Kyousuke began in explanation, as his tone became increasingly serious, “Thanks to Mami, Sayaka learned of the reality of magical girls and witches. Upon learning of that reality, she choose to be a hero fighting dangerous battles to protect people from witches and familiars. But she was a hero in two ways here, since she made a selfless wish to heal my hand… to give me my life as a musician back to me!”

Kyousuke’s voice started to crack slightly, and his eyes became slightly watered, as he became increasingly emotional here.

“I thought I had lost everything…” he continued, “My deepest dream, my highest hope. And instead of wishing for a dream of her own, and instead of wishing for wealth, power, or prestige; Sayaka wished to save me. To give my dreams back to me. But even with that wish accomplished, Mami and her fought on as heroes, protecting innocent people in the most thankless role imaginable. They have given so much, asking nothing in return. It was more moving than the most beautiful violin recital I have ever heard.”

“So here was I…” he continued on, after a brief pause, during which Sayaka and I also became a bit more emotional and misty-eyed over his passionate heartfelt words, “I was given a miracle, and while nothing was asked of me in return. No, I could not have that. I hated the thought of being so selfish as to take that priceless gift, while not showing lasting thanks and gratitude to the person who had given it to me. Most importantly, it occurred to me that I could never live with myself if Sayaka ever died fighting a witch. If her making a wish for my sake would end up costing her even more than it gained me… No, that is absolutely unacceptable. The world is often not fair, but that level of unfairness offended me deeply, even at just a conceptual level. So I made the only wish that I could, the only wish that would let me sleep soundly at night.”

Again, he paused, to maintain his composure. Sayaka now had tears in her eyes, while I felt increasingly stirred. I think that even the jaded Homura and Kyouko were becoming moved by Kyousuke’s story.

“I turned to Kyubey, and asked him if he could make a contract with me, so that I could make a wish.” Kyousuke stated, “He answered in riddles at first, but after I pressured him on it repeatedly, he admitted that it is not unprecedented for a male to become a Puella Magi… or rather, a magical human. And then I made the wish that I had to make. I wished that whenever Sayaka is in danger, I will be there.”

As Kyousuke said those words, Sayaka wrapped one arm around his, and she started crying tears of joy while leaning against his shoulder. I was also moved to tears. Even Kyouko wiped her eyes. But most surprising was Homura’s response.

Homura sobbed after hearing Kyousuke’s story.

“I know exactly what you mean.” she said to him at last.

After we all composed ourselves, Homura spoke again.

“We will defeat Walpurgis Night.” she said firmly, and confidently.

“Of course we will.” Kyousuke stated, now once more the grinning, smooth romantic, “You have the harem male lead on your side, after all. Failure is completely inconceivable.”

All of us, even Sayaka, couldn’t help but chuckle over his words.

Even given Kyousuke’s confidence, Homura felt it was wise to develop a clear plan of attack, incorporating Kyousuke’s unique music-based powers into what she had been planning before. She asked us to all meet back here briefly tomorrow. We agreed to it.

Kyousuke and Sayaka were the first to leave, holding hands and chit-chatting amongst themselves as they did so. I then was about to make my leave when I overheard Kyouko say something very interesting.

“It must be nice to have somebody to protect...” she said in a regretful tone, “Especially if it’s somebody you love.”

“It is nice.” I whispered while leaning into her, “And you can have it yourself, if you want, Kyouko.”

Kyouko looked unusually weak and uncertain. The tough girl looked oddly vulnerable right now. She sighed slightly.

When I arrived at Mami’s, I was pleased to see her in very high spirits. But I could also tell that she was a bit more… frenzied than usual. It’s like she had this strange itch…

“Sayaka and Kyousuke have such a beautiful and intense relationship now.” Mami stated, “I have to admit, it leaves me feeling a bit jealous…”

“You shouldn’t feel jealous.” I replied, “You and I have a beautiful relationship to, don’t we?”

“Yes, of course we do.” Mami responded warmly, “But… we haven’t been able to act on it much since this past weekend. That leaves me wanting more now, Madoka…”

Mami then seduced me, with such mesmerizing skill, and finesse. It was clear that she was feeling some sexual frustration at the moment, and that frustration would soon be given release…

The two of us made love this Wednesday evening. Mami was nothing short of mind-blowing this evening. I only hoped that I was the same way for her…

Spoiler for Time For Practice!:

Mami felt confident that Sayaka and Kyousuke could handle any witches or familiars plaguing her territory, so that freed Mami up to spend an evening with me!

I went over to Mami’s place, and we spent a lot of time dancing again after Mami pushed some furniture around to make room for our practice.

We practiced dancing to numerous ClariS songs, including one named Irony!

“That’s the own they used for the anime about the mean imouto, right?” I asked.

“The mean imouto?” Mami asked in playful response.

“Well, she’s always beating up and insulting her own brother!” I exclaimed, “It’s simply terrible! I could never treat Tatsuya like that…”

“I’m relieved to hear that you’re not taking tips on how to be a sister from that show.” Mami stated playfully, while winking knowingly at me.

We both laughed loudly over that!

Mami and I had a wonderful time dancing and dancing and dancing some more! By the time we were done, I was out of breath. I collapsed to the floor, leaning on my outstretched arms and breathing heavily. Mami was sweating a bit, and slightly winded, but looked to be in remarkable condition given all the dancing we just did!

“Mami, you’re amazing!” I stated.

“I appreciate the compliment, but I have a long way to go…” Mami replied, “The new ClariS competition comes to Mitakihara Town in just three weeks! I have to practice as much as I can until then.”

“Right!” I replied, “And I’ll help you through it all, Mami.”

I left Mami’s home, after a very enjoyable but exhausting time with her. My life was starting to feel like a magnificent dream! I just hope this dream never ends…

I finally arrived home this Wednesday evening. So many intense images and thoughts danced about my head. Many troubling events had come and gone, but my romance with Mami was going well.

One major troubling event remained. One last hurdle had to be cleared.

That was Walpurgis Night. I hope Mami and everyone else can clear it…

A few short notes...

The two brief Mami/Madoka "date" sections at the end of "The White Maestro Rises" each have a clickable link at the beginning of it. As always, that will play music from YouTube that I think is fitting for the section that follows the link.

However, an added special note here. I recently discovered a Jazz remix of Mami's Theme. I personally think it's perfect for the more... intimate Mami scenes, shall we say. So consider that standard music for all such scenes (please take note of this, Kimidori ).


I know some of the branchings are becoming confusing, so here's an easy guide:

If you chose A for Choice M3, it means you discouraged Sayaka from telling Kamijo about the world of magical girls and witches. That means the White Maestro never rose. Which means Sayaka took a nasty injury.

Choosing B for that choice is the opposite, of course. Sayaka did tell him about it, and so a passionate romance and a new Magical Human resulted from it.


If you chose A for M Opportunity Choice 3, it means that you're currently two-timing Mami. You're in a relationship with both Mami and Homura. Otherwise, you're in a relationship with Mami alone.


If you Chose A for Choice M4, it means that you stood firm by Mami during the Mami/Homura beach confrontation. You met Kyouko and played DDR with her and Mami. Otherwise, Madoka only meets Kyouko now, in this update.

I'm glad you found it a good read. As for Sayaka's predicament, I'm glad that's having the desired emotional impact. But there is reason for hope here (at least for those who have already read the entire Mami Lives, Sayaka Romance route ).

btw, are we nearing the climax of their routes or are there still some choices that might shift the course of the story?

I intend for the "Crippled Sayaka" branches to end next update. I'm not positive it will end then, but I'm about 90% sure it will.

The Sayaka/Kyousuke branch will last at least two more updates.

So yeah, we're almost at the end now.

Ah man... I would've had this up sooner, but I forgot to save what I had done and someone went and rebooted the computer. Sorry about that, I tried to replicate what was probably a much better synopsis/review/whatever as best I could, so hopefully you like what you see.

Anyway... even though this is the "Delicious M&M" portion, it's a very Sayaka-centric update, so I'd say it's time to once again Taste the Rainbow. Skittles Redux is a go!

So we start off with Mami delivering the bad news about what happened with Sayaka. Distraught, Madoka rushes to meet with Mami, so once again it's off to the Homu-Home to meet with a crippled Sayaka.

Spoiler for A Black Day:

A Madoka who wavered in her support of Mami gets to push by Homura and an unfamiliar redhead to try and comfort Sayaka in her time of need. Needless to say, Kyubey can't resist trying to take advantage of the situation... which leads to an uncharacteristically angry outburst from Homura. And while Madoka seriously considered making the sacrifice for Sayaka's sake, Mami and this mysterious redhead, who seems to be named Kyouko, managed to convince her that it may not be worth it... followed by Homura yelling again. A little surprised no one noticed the unusual change in character from her...

Spoiler for Seeing Red:

A Madoka who firmly stood by Mami through thick and thin got to be greeted by Kyouko... before rushing past her and Homura to try and comfort Sayaka. And as with the other portion, Kyubey decides to try and take advantage of the situation. Where things differ is that Kyouko takes a more active role in trying to dissuade Madoka... while hinting at her troubled past.

Regardless of how Madoka may have gotten here, she learns the truth about what's going to happen.

More to the point, a plan was concocted to explain Sayaka's injury without getting into the truth of the matter... and I hope that in this little enactment, Kyubey got to play the role of "wounded kitten." Only they actually put him into some of said machinery. Yeah, that'll make things better. Or maybe not, but it'll make me feel better. All things said though, the plan seemed to work... And unlike a certain other route, Nanami actually gets to play the role of kind and caring mother. Hopefully, for Sayaka's sake, Kotetsu still has a certain connection from that route open to him if magical means of healing are rendered out of the question...

But enough of referencing the more Sayaka-related route for this half, as this is the Mami Romance route. It would be a shame to not have a scene with that, and this update certainly didn't disappoint.

I'm going to break from my normal habits for this last portion, as I really don't think me giving a summary would do it any justice. Up until this point, I've viewed the relationship between Madoka and Mami in two different ways, the first being that of a younger girl who deeply admires her senpai and an older girl who wants a close friend, and the second being two girls who deeply love each other. In a single scene, you've managed to combine both of these into something truly magnificent, and as fond as I am of Sayaka, I'm honestly upset I didn't get to "officially" see this. Seriously, the end of this section is easily my favorite part of this update. Well done.

So we start off with Mami delivering the surprising news about the latest magical gir... Human. Magical human, Kyousuke Kamijou, as well as the magic he worked for Sayaka. And, with their relationship soaring upwards to new heights, it seemed like it would soon be time for Mami to finally settle down with Madoka.

Later, in the Homu-Home, the magical maestro himself found himself surrounded by a quartet of lovely ladies. Why, he had a veritable harem on his hands with genki girl(and first girl) Sayaka, voluptuous senpai Mami, mysterious kuudere Homura and fiery tsundere Kyouko... who forgot to mention the fact that the Last Girl, which Kyouko would most likely be in this scenario, also tends to win. Of course, placements like that are irrelevant if the guy's already dating someone... and isn't named Makoto.

Afterwards, Kyousuke delivers a tale of miracles and magic so touching that even Homura was left in tears... and then everyone was brought to a chuckle when he boasted that, as harem lead, his being on their side assures victory. Though, seeing as he's already definitely gotten the girl, I'd say he's got reason to be confident.

Speaking of getting the girl, a brief interlude between Mami and a regretful Kyouko leads into a date between Mami and the harem lead she ended up with.

Spoiler for Passionate Pink:

If said lead decided to be passionate to more than one option, a Mami somewhat jealous of Sayaka and Kyousuke decides to let her own passions take over, and the two of them proceed to share quite an evening with one another... but we don't get to see that, of course. After all, AnimeSuki wouldn't allow such content to be posted for anyone to see.

Spoiler for Energetic Yellow:

If said lead decided to devote her energy to just one girl, the two of them instead use their energy in a way that helps Mami practice for her dream of becoming an idol... and I can't help but wonder if there's a certain show you don't like. If what I'm reading about it is true, there is a bit of Irony involved in Madoka dancing to a song from it.

Either way, Madoka ends up quite exhausted due to her time with Mami, and hoping the dream life she shares with her beloved senpai and girlfriend never ends...

All in all, I enjoyed this update a lot. And I can't stress enough how magnificently done one portion in particular really was. Great work on this one, and I can't wait to see the next.

Oh, and sorry again if it's a bit later than you'd like. At least I didn't leave you hanging for a week this time around?

I meant to write this post a couple of nights ago, but I've been a bit nervous and distracted because I've been trying to strike up my own little romance on OKCupid. I should hurry up and get on with it, though. Bros before hos and PPPL before T & A, as the old sayings go.

This was a very nice update. The dichotomy between The Blue Knight Falls and The White Maestro Rises was of course a very interesting one, with the former a nightmarish scenario where things have gone terribly wrong and White Maestro a much more serene, perfect world much closer to a perfect dream than a nightmare (I did read the scene where Sayaka's leg was cleaved off, in response to your Visitor Message, by the way I don't skip anything in stories I read, in part because I have no desire to and also because it would be hurtful to the writer), but one other thing I appreciated was this update's leisurely pace. PPPL in general strikes a fairly even balance between story-driven and character-driven, but this chapter leaned strongly to the character-driven side, with the primary focus being the characters' thoughts, feelings, and interactions with each other (With Blue Knight, the characters' response to the tragedy; with White Maestro, Kyosuke integrating himself within the group). It's certainly a strong point to slow down and explore the situation in detail rather than blow through things.

Some specific notes on The Blue Knight Falls... it was sweet how Papa managed to calm Madoka down, even if only slightly, simply by being himself and showing a bit of concern. I've always liked how you balance Madoka's relationship with her mother and her father quite nicely, unlike the anime where Papa might as well not have even existed because Junko ran the show so much. Aaaaaaand on the opposite end of the sensitivity spectrum is the normally very nurturing Mami, with her observation about Madoka and not reviving Hitomi from the dead. It's a very fair point, but a brutal one. I'm glad that Madoka was levelheaded enough to take the argument gracefully; I'm surprised it didn't cut deeper than it did.

This chapter left me with some questions, some that will certainly be answered and others that will not. I wonder what will come of Sayaka's injury, but that of course is something that will be answered during the story itself since it's a focal plot point. The others are more rhetorical what-ifs. I wonder if Kyouko would have given Madoka an honest answer if she asked about her wish... the setting certainly wasn't as intimate as whenever Kyouko told Sayaka her story whenever they were alone in the church, but Kyouko can be a fairly open girl. I also found myself wondering if Nanami would have cared so much about Sayaka's mutilation if she knew in this route that her daughter was bisexual. >< I wouldn't put it past the dumb cunt. The alibi was really clever and interesting, by the by.

The White Maestro Rises, of course, was a very different chapter where reality took a much kinder turn. I loved the bits at the beginning about Kyosuke being the lead of a harem anime, for starters. One of the most purely fun parts of the story thus far. I really like the new dynamics that Kyosuke adds to the group and to the story itself. He's an interesting mixture of being buoyant, jovial, and silly on one hand, yet very gallant and dashing at the same time. The newfound relationship he's formed with Sayaka is very cute, and I loved his entire answer to Homura's inquiry about the wish.

I wonder if Madoka and Mami will soon have trouble in paradise, though, and if their relationship will soon become more rocky than Sayaka and Kyosuke's currently perfect one. Is Mami planning to cheat on Madoka with Kyouko? Try as I might, I can't think of any other interpretation for the exchange. I suppose it's a karmic enough fate if that is the case, since if you take all the routes where Madoka's cheated on her girlfriend(s) and add them together, she's probably sixteen-timed the other puella magi... I'm very, very curious how Madoka will respond to the infidelity, if that is indeed what it is. And aww, Madoka doesn't like Kirino? 51 years since OreImo first aired, and people are still talking about what a legendary bitch she is.

I couldn't think of a minigame for this chapter, so here's something completely random! Minigame 7: an action minigame that features Homura driving through Mitahikara on a motorcycle, Madoka clinging to her back for dear life, as she fights to protect Madoka from gang members, rogue police officers, Witches, gargoyles, mummies, and bears. The sequence comes completely out of nowhere, has nothing to do with anything and is never mentioned again, but I believe it would be a valuable contribution just the same.

Mami Romance

“Walpurgis Night is here at last. Take care, Madoka.”

Those were the last words I heard from Mami. She spoke them to me before she gave me a quick kiss. After kissing me, she lovingly pushed my bangs to the side before running the back of her hand through them. As she did so, she gazed enchantingly into my eyes; taking comfort in them like a diver takes comfort in his last breath of air before descending into the murky depths below. I similarly had taken comfort in her pretty eyes.

The memory of her warm but piercing gaze causes me to stir while I now sit in an evacuation shelter, along with hundreds if not thousands of other people.

Thankfully, Sayaka and her family ended up sharing a space next to my family and me.

“This is one strange storm.” stated Kotetsu Miki, standing alongside my papa, while the rest of us were kneeling or lying down, “It has… an unearthly feel to it.”

“It did start very suddenly.” my papa said in reply to him, “Storms of this magnitude are usually forecasted days in advance.”

“First Sayaka’s horrid injury, and now this…” Kotetsu stated, becoming increasingly depressed.

“Don’t worry.” said my papa, while placing a hand on Kotetsu’s shoulders, “Mitakihara Town is well-prepared for any sort of disaster, even an unexpected one. All of us will get through this together.”

“Thanks.” Kotetsu said, while turning his head and making a grin, “Given how close our daughters are, maybe it’s a shame the two of us don’t know each other better. Want to share some drinks sometime?”

“Sure.” my papa replied, “I’ll mix them up myself.”

My papa and Sayaka’s then chatted a bit about their favorite mixed drinks. In the meantime, I focused on my injured friend.

“It sucks that I can’t be out there, helping them…” Sayaka whispered, making sure only I could hear her.

“I’m sure they’ll do just fine.” I replied, “Three magical girls should be enough to defeat even the most powerful of witches!”

Sayaka initially looked uneasy and uncertain over my reassurance here, but she eventually sighed and relented to it.

“Yeah, you’re probably right.” Sayaka stated, “Still, I hate not being able to walk. I’ve been bed-ridden, or in a wheelchair, for days now.”

“I know it’s hard.” I said sympathetically to her, “But at least your father knows someone who can help.”

Sayaka chuckled and smiled at that.

“Barnaby Brooks.” she stated with a touch of awe, “To think that dad really was friends with him!”

“And his company will make sure you get the best prosthetic leg that there is.” I said with a smile, “So don’t worry, you’ll be as good as new really soon!”

“Well, as long as Mami, Kyouko, and Homura all succeed” replied Sayaka.

Yes, there was now a great weight on the shoulders of all three of them…


And on my shoulders was the weight of knowing that I could help them if I so chose to. I could wish Hitomi back from the dead… I could wish Sayaka’s leg to be miraculously restored… I guess I could even wish for this Walpurgis Night to simply disappear. Either way, I’d become a magical girl and could aid Mami, Homura, and Kyouko in their struggles.

I’m not the smartest girl. I’m not particularly good at school. But thinking more deeply about it… it occurred to me what a great temptation the prospect of becoming a Puella Magi is. Every major problem that I encounter would tempt me anew.

… Is there something a bit too easy about problems being wished away? It seems so nice, wondrous, magically pleasant. How can I fault Sayaka’s wish, for example? And yet, these frequent temptations I feel as new problems and crisis arises…

And now Kyubey tries to talk me into becoming a Puella Magi once more. He is so very persistent.

No. No more easy answers. No more considering wishing away every new struggle that I encounter in life. I must be strong, like my mama… and my papa. I must be strong for Mami…

…and for Homura.

So I reject Kyubey’s offer, more firmly this time. And now I sleep soundly cuddled up next to Sayaka, as we both fall to sleep. I hope that tomorrow morning will be bright, with equally bright news…


Shortly after I awake, I see social workers distributing some packaged food and bowls of warm soup to the people gathered at the evacuation center. Well, at least we made it through the night!

“I’ll get some soup for you too!” I shouted to Sayaka.

“Thanks…” she groggily replied, but with a relieving smile on her face.

After retrieving some soup and crackers for Sayaka and I, I set the food down between the two of us. We had just started to eat when I heard a bit of a commotion. Apparently, it was caused by a couple of new people slowly making it into the evacuation center. And those two people were Mami and Kyouko! Kyouko was in her usual blue jean-shorts and green top, while Mami was wearing the student uniform of our school.

“Mami-san!” I shouted out joyously, with my emotions rising so much at seeing her that tear droplets instantly rushed to my eyes and a big, open smile formed across my face.

I then raced towards Mami and Kyouko as fast as I could! It’s a bit embarrassing to think of how this caused even more commotion in the shelter. But I couldn’t help it. I was so deeply relieved!

So overwhelming was my relief that I had failed to notice how Kyouko had been carefully supporting Mami as the two slowly walked into the shelter.

“C-careful, Madoka!” she shouted to me, as I dashed towards Mami, causing me to slow down before reaching her, “Mami’s leg was injured.”

Yes, Kyouko was right. Mami had one arm draped around Kyouko’s shoulder, while Kyouko was clearly in a position to act as a crutch for Mami. One of Mami’s legs was not touching the ground…

Both Mami and Kyouko had a few scrapes and bruises. The battle against Walpurgis Night had clearly left its mark.

“Don’t worry.” Mami said, with a smile on her face and tears in her eyes, “You can still hug me if you want to, Madoka.”

“Of course I do.” I replied, as I was now in tears.

I then raced at Mami, and hugged her. With me greatly appreciating it, Kyouko did her best to keep Mami steady while Mami and I hugged. Mami and I cried over our reunion, while Kyouko couldn’t help but to smile a bit blissfully at the two of us.

“I was so worried about you…!” I cried to Mami, as my head was held tightly against hers.

“I was worried about you too.” Mami replied, as she warmly petted the back of my head.


“D-Don’t worry.” I overheard my papa trying to calm down the commotion my actions had helped to cause, “Her name is Mami Tomoe, and she’s a good friend of my daughter’s.”

Thankfully, my papa’s words helped to settle things down, while my mama looked amused. Kyouko carefully laid Mami down next to me, as I sat down opposite of Sayaka. Kyouko then sat down next to Sayaka, opposite of Mami.


“Where’s Homura?” I asked Mami, after things had settled down a bit.

Mami and Kyouko both looked a bit distraught over that question, allowing it to tensely hang in the air for a moment that seemed very long to me.

“We’ll discuss that once we have more privacy.” Mami finally answered, “But don’t worry, we’ll tell you before the day is through.”

True to her word, Mami would in a few hours tell me what had happened to Homura.


The battle with Walpurgis Night had been absolutely brutal and decidedly fierce. Even though Homura was amazingly well-prepared for it, the opening volley of bombs, missiles, bazookas, gunfire, and even transport trucks, had barely left a scratch on Walpurgis Night.

That forced Kyouko and Mami into an offensive frenzy! Their attacks were doing well. Unfortunately, at some point Mami was caught off-guard by a kind of rainbow-colored shade of a magical girl! This was one of Walpurgis Night’s familiars.

The shade had injured Mami’s leg, and at this point Homura had determined that a Tiro Finale would be necessary in order for her, Kyouko, and Mami to defeat Walpurgis Night. Homura shouted at Kyouko to defend Mami from the familiars, and Kyouko attempted to do just that. But Walpurgis Night then threw nothing less than a detached skyscraper at Mami! This was more than what Kyouko or Mami could withstand…

So Homura used her powers to push Kyouko or Mami out of harm’s day in the blink of an eye! But Homura was not able to remove herself from the path of the hurled skyscraper. And that’s when… Homura died.

Hearing of Homura’s heroic death filled my heart with great sadness, and penetrating shame. I wept bitterly at the news of her death.

I had come to deeply love Homura. I had become very attached to her!

Feelings of guilt plagued my mind. If I had wished to be a Puella Magi, would Homura still be alive? Yes, she probably would!

And I also couldn’t shake the feeling that this was a karmic punishment for my love affair with Homura. That Homura and I had been severely punished for how I had not remained faithful to Mami.

After a period of wretched crying, and allowing waves of deep shame to course through me, I eventually settled down.

I decided that I would not let Homura’s death be in vain. And that I would recommit myself to Mami, in my heart. I will never be unfaithful to you again, Mami!

Homura wanted me to never become a Puella Magi. I will honor that wish. That is the least I can do for you, my dearly missed and amazingly beautiful Homura…

Spoiler for Mildly Mournful Madoka:

Hearing of Homura’s death saddened me. My life had been plagued with so much sadness and loss lately. Hitomi’s death, Sayaka losing a leg, Homura’s death, Mami’s leg being broken and needing to heal…

The world of the Puella Magi is a dark world, of chaotic violence and risky battles. It is no longer an appealing world to me at all. And I will mourn Homura’s death as I did Hitomi’s. Homura, to her credit, died a hero. But that’s not the fate I want for myself.

No, I want to be there for Mami, for the alluring woman that I love with all my heart. I have to be strong for her… for her, and Sayaka.

It is unfortunate that Mami’s dream of being a Pop Idol will have to be put on hold while her leg heals. It will not heal in time for her to compete in ClariS’ talent search for a third member.

So much bitter lost… so much heart-wrenching disappointment… but I must be Mami’s steady support through this trying time in her life. I still want for us to be a happy couple, forever and always, Mami-san!

The coming two weeks thankfully came and went without too much incident. Mitakihara Town slowly started to rebuild from the serious destruction left in the wake of Walpurgis Night. Thankfully, Mami, Kyouko, and Homura had been successful in defeating Walpurgis Night, and keeping the damage caused by that monstrous witch down to a minimum.

Mami’s leg slowly healed, while Sayaka would soon have a new prosthetic leg to replace the one she lost.

There was a touching reunion between Kotetsu Miki and his old friend Barnaby Brooks while Sayaka went through the operation to have her new leg attached. Kotetsu was profusely thankful to Barnaby for saving Sayaka like this. Barnaby said he asked nothing in return, but that he was planning to open up a new branch of his Maverick Machines business here in Japan. He asked Kotetsu if he’d like to head up that branch of his business for him. Kotetsu heartily agreed. No doubt this will be good news for the Miki family. At least there’s some silver lining to what happened to Sayaka.

Kyousuke Kamijo was noticeably supportive of Sayaka as she slowly became use to her new prosthetic leg. I guess that Kamijo felt that he should give back to Sayaka after all the help she gave him while he was dealing with his own injuries. Sayaka remains a bit shy towards Kyousuke though. I keep encouraging her to act on her love for him, but I think it’ll be awhile before she gets up the courage to do so. Oh well, at least she seems happy and content with her new leg. Perhaps the one time Mami and I had enjoyed a fun and relaxing afternoon playing DDR with Kyouko, had left more of a positive impact on Kyouko than Mami had originally thought. This is because Kyouko told Mami that she’d provide Mami with a couple “free” Grief Seeds while she was recovering from her injured leg.

Mami has her pride, so she politely disagreed with Kyouko’s intentions at first. But after I expressed how necessary Kyouko’s actions were for ensuring Mami’s Soul Gem doesn’t darken, Mami conceded to Kyouko’s intentions.

Best of all was how Mami and Kyouko seemed to be becoming friends again! That was a huge relief for me. But the biggest relief, and pleasant surprise, was still to come…

Spoiler for Madoka Begs Kyouko for Help:

“Please share some Grief Seeds with Mami while she’s healing!” I pleaded to Kyouko, after I ran into her while walking home from school a few days after Walpurgis Night’s attack, “I don’t know what she’ll do without them.”

“Mami’s a strong and smart girl.” Kyouko replied, “She can look after herself.”

“Normally, yes, you’re right.” I responded, “But not right now. Right now she needs your help, Kyouko!”

Kyouko sighed deeply over that.

“Ok, fine, I gotcha!” Kyouko replied in exasperation, “I’ll give her two Grief Seeds while she’s recovering, alright?”

I nodded, and made a slight whimper indicating agreement. I was so relieved that Mami would get the help that she needed. But the biggest relief, and pleasant surprise, was still to come…

“Mr. and Mrs. Kaname” Mami said politely to both, as she met them in the dining room of our house, “Madoka told me that there’s something you wanted to talk to me about?”

“Please, Mami, just call us Junko and Tomohisa.” my mama replied.

“Call you both by your given names?” Mami asked in slight bewilderment, “That’s… awfully informal given our age difference, and…”

“Informal is what we like here in our home.” my papa stated, “And it’s our hope, Mami, that you will join our home.”

Mami’s eyes went wide in shock, while I smiled blissfully at her reaction. Papa had told me the day before what he intended to do today. I heartily approved!

“A-Are you being serious?” Mami asked.

“Of course.” Papa answered, “We’d never be cruel enough to joke about this.”

“You obviously don’t see Madoka in a sisterly way” my mama said, with a bit of a playful grin “So it would be awkward if we officially adopted you.”

“But Japanese law does of course allow for borders.” papa added with a grin, “Thankfully, we already have a spare bedroom in our home. And that can be your room, Mami. Now you’ll have a family to call your own, and to live with.”

“In order to comply with Japanese tenet law, we will of course have to charge you monthly rent” mama said, “So let’s see… Does 10 yen a month sound feasible?”

Papa then winked at Mami with such effervescent charm.

By now, tears of joy were flowing out of Mami’s eyes, and she was becoming choked up.

“Thank you… thank you so much!” she exclaimed at my parents.

She then raced towards them, and hugged both of them at the same time as they hugged her back.

With great joy swelling up in my heart, a big smile on my face, and water in my eyes, I then joined in the group hug by gently hugging Mami from behind.

“YaYAY!” came a sudden joyous shout from Tatsuya as he stretched his arms high into the air, holding tiny play cars.

“Now my VROOM VROOM cars will have GolDEN, curvyyy raceways!” he continued, after Mami and I took notice of him.

Mami and I couldn’t help but to laugh at Tatsuya’s exuberant silliness. But as silly as it was, it was the perfect way to cap off this moment.


Over the next few years, Mami and I grew increasingly closer together. Our love was strong, and consistently supported. Supported by my family, and by our friend Sayaka.

With much support from Mami and I, Sayaka finally got up the courage to confess to Kamijo. Kamijo thankfully accepted, and I hope it works out between Sayaka and him!

One thing that I know will work out, though, is my romance with Mami. We have come through so much together. We have overcome so much together. She has uplifted my spirits, while I have freed her heart of loneliness. Any and all mistakes are now behind us, and we look forward to a bright, beautiful tomorrow. For me, it is a future of golden sunsets and bountiful living. For her, it’s a pink tapestry of love, with her now a Kaname in all but name.

But I hope that one day she will be a Kaname in name as well. Because one day, I will make her my wife!

I am worried about Walpurgis Night. But I am also confident. Surely five teenagers with attitude will be enough to defeat one giant monster!

As a child, I was a lover of sentai heroes. Most boys my age were, of course. So I found it heartening to discover that my new girlfriend, Sayaka, loved them as well. Today, we are like two sentai heroes in the timeless group of five, with one dangerous monstrosity to bring down. Today, I will live out a childhood dream that, in some ways, is even closer to my heart than music is. Today, I will save my city!

How fitting it is that our leader strikes with all the armament of a giant mecha.

“Is all of that really necessary?” Mami asks with a grin and a raised eyebrow, “You think we need that much conventional weaponry to assist the magical abilities of you, Sayaka, Kyouko, Kyousuke, and myself?”

“I’ve learned the hard way that you must always be prepared for the worst.” Homura responds.

“I guess ‘better safe than sorry’ does apply here.” Kyouko replied, “But now that you’re done using up that massive weapons cache, it’s time for the rest of us to have some fun!”

“Just don’t lose sight of the plan.” Homura states.

Yes, the plan. Kyouko and Mami will run interference at both close and long range, freeing up Sayaka and I for one brilliant attack!

“Time to work some magic, Sayaka.” I say, as I hug her sides from behind, and place a kiss on her cheek.

“He he!” she giggles in return, “Right!”

Sayaka then sprints forward, while raising one sword above her head. I start playing my violin, aiming it at her sword. My magical energies charge her sword, and cause it to grow much larger, and much more powerful. It now glistens with a blistering red, and crackles with thunderous energy! It stands twenty… no, thirty feet tall!

“Good bye, Walpurgis Night!” Sayaka exclaims as she leaps into the air, swinging this ginormous sword that looks like something a giant sentai hero mecha would be wielding!

The sword then slices straight through Walpurgis Night, cutting it in half! The resulting explosion is massive!

“She did it!” Kyouko exclaims, pumping a fist.

“They did it.” Mami stated, before smiling towards me.

“It is truly a great day when even Mami Tomoe recognizes my contributions.” I replied with a grin.

Sayaka then raced towards me, while laughing joyously. She jumped into my arms with such great exuberance, wrapping her arms around my neck. I couldn’t help but chuckle along with her, as I spun her about. Then, in the heat of the moment, we kissed.

“We did it, Kyousuke!” she said.

“Yes, we all did.” I replied.

The mood in the air was decidedly celebratory. Yes, Walpurgis Night had caused some damage, but we had definitely contained it. The vast majority of Mitakihara Town had been left unscathed.

“I don’t want to lessen the happy mood right now, for I am deeply relieved myself.” Homura stated, “But still, there is Madoka to think about.”

“Right.” Mami said, “Let’s all get back to her as quickly as possible! Let’s put her mind at ease.”


Thankfully, the fight with Walpurgis Night did not last long. Before I would go to sleep this night, all of my closest friends would arrive to share the good news with me!

“Mami!” I cried, at the sight of her, as she walked into the evacuation center, followed behind by Kyousuke, Sayaka, Homura, and Kyouko.

Mami giggled as I rushed at her, and as we embraced tightly.

I also make a point to briefly look over Mami’s shoulder, and smile very brightly towards Homura. It was cute how Homura smiled slightly and blushed in response. I’m glad that Homura understood the meaning behind my gesture here.

My five friends and I then all sat down together, while papa tries to calm the commotion in the evacuation center caused by my loud reunion with Mami.

My five friends earnestly tell me about their victory over Walpurgis Night. Sayaka in particular seems very proud and happy about it.

“It’s so cool how it was Kyousuke and I working together that ended this fight.” Sayaka said with a big smile, while blushing slightly.

I felt really happy for Sayaka and Kyousuke. And I felt very relieved for all of us.

But even with this threat thankfully passed, there were still very exciting times to come!

In the weeks to come, I would try to balance two romances at once, one open and the other discreet. While I felt a bit guilty about the subterfuge and dishonesty involved, I must admit that it was thrilling!

So many wondrous nights with Homura, and days with Mami… Balancing the two relationships was a challenge, but one of great joy and satisfaction!

Thankfully, Sayaka was too caught up in her own relationship with Kyousuke to have any chance of noticing my affair with Homura.

But soon Sayaka’s relationship with Kyousuke would reveal an awesome secret to all of us…

Spoiler for Mami Will Take the Stage!:

Kyousuke’s newfound zeal for life would pave the way to a really cool event!

Kyousuke had already approached a major record label, looking to share his violin music with the world. Being very impressed with his work, the record label signed him to a contract.

“I am now a man of two major contracts.” Kyousuke likes to joke.

But most amusing, and exciting, is the fact that the record label that signed Kyousuke… is also the record label for ClariS!

“This gave me a chance to meet personally with ClariS” Kyousuke stated, “I pitched to them the idea of holding a big charitable relief concert right here in the heart of Mitakihara Town. Thankfully, they liked the idea! ClariS and I will be putting on a performance together, and we’ll be leaving open slots for local talent to take the stage before us. Do you know what that means, Madoka?”

“It means that this is your chance, Mami!” I answered, while turning to face Mami.

“This… this is so sudden.” Mami stated, “This isn’t even part of the official talent search that ClariS is putting on.”

“No, but it can’t hurt to impress ClariS before the talent search begins.” Kyousuke stated, “And I know you can do it, Mami!”

“Right!” Sayaka chimed in excitedly, “We all know you have the talent to do it, Mami.”

“I… I…” Mami began nervously, “Ok, I’ll go for it!”

“Yay!” I couldn’t help but cheer over the thought.

“But I’ll need your help, Madoka.” Mami stated.

“What for?” I asked.

“To help me design and create a stage costume, of course.” Mami answered with a serene smile.

“That should be a lot of fun!” I replied.

Kyousuke and Sayaka then took their leave. Kyousuke essentially hired Sayaka to be his personal agent, a way for them to spend more time together. It also meant that Sayaka would be there, every step of the way, as Kyousuke pursues his music career.

So much was happening so fast. And it was all so unbelievable! But it was also all so wonderful. But perhaps the most unbelievable and wonderful of them all was a shocking reveal that Sayaka was about to make to us…

Sayaka, Mami, and I were all sitting around the transparent glass triangular table in Mami's living room. It was about a week and a half after the defeat of Walpurgis Night.

“What is it that you wanted to tell us, Sayaka?” Mami asked.

“Well…” Sayaka began a bit shyly, while blushing a lot, “Give me a second to prepare for this. It’s pretty embarrassing.”

“Well, if it’s that embarrassing, it’s not something you have to tell us.” I stated, as I didn’t want Sayaka to feel like she had to embarrass herself like this.

“No, I do have to tell you, Madoka.” Sayaka said, “It’s too important not to. It could really make a huge difference for you and Mami!”

“… How could it make a huge difference for us?” Mami asked.

Mami and I were now blinking a bit in confusion, finding it hard to pick much sense out of Sayaka’s words.

Sayaka released a bit of a frustrated shout while scratching her hair with both hands. I could tell this was really hard for her!

“Ok…” she said to herself, trying to calm herself, “I guess I should try to get this over with as quickly as possible.”

“T-That’s probably a good idea.” I said with a wry smile, as both Mami and I became increasingly nervous over Sayaka’s antics here.

“…You both think that Grief Seeds are the only way to cleanse Soul Gems right?” Sayaka asked.

“Yes, they are.” Mami quickly answered.

“Sorry, Mami, but in this case you’re mistaken.” Sayaka stated.

“What other way is there to cleanse Soul Gems?” Mami asked.

Sayaka then shifted her eyes back and forth nervously, while playing a bit with her hair. Finally, after a brief sigh, she answered.

“… Sex” Sayaka answered.

“Sex?” Mami replied in question, shocked at the revelation.

“Yeah…” Sayaka answered uneasily, “Specifically, sex between two magical humans that have contracted with Kyubey…”

It took a couple moments for Mami and I to fully get the hidden implication behind Sayaka’s words here. But once we did, it was like a light-bulb going off in our heads.

“Oh, I see!” Mami responded, “This is something you must have learned when you and Kyousuke…”

“Please, let’s not talk about it that openly!” Sayaka stated in a shy but pleading tone.

Mami then became silent for a second, respecting Sayaka’s plea. But it didn’t take long for Mami to make another important realization.

“Madoka, do you know what this means?!” Mami asked me.

“… Yeah, I do.” I replied shyly, now blushing myself.

Big decisions now awaited me. An obvious opportunity could no longer be justifiably denied. Sayaka was more right than what even she herself had likely thought possible.

A world of miracles and magic was now beckoning…

Maybe it's because I'm a big HomuMado shipper and I've read many yuri doujins on them that I think Homura's death should have a bigger impact on Madoka and Mami's relationship. I'm not saying that the entire ending should be changed but if Madoka cried hard enough, Mami should have caught onto something. Furthermore, choice M4 doesn't seem to have much impact on the plot.

Since I find it hard to learn without examples, I could provide how I expected it to happen here or privately. I don't want to post a wall of text which makes it seem like I'm trying to take over your story.

Honestly, I'll admit that "Mami Romance, Normal End" has some issues.

PPPL is a labor of love, but it's also a massive time-sink. When I began PPPL well over a year ago, I had much more free time than what I've had over the past seven months. This is largely why the update pacing has changed drastically.

I don't want to rush this to the degree that quality suffers drastically, but I'll admit I have cut corners a bit for the sake of expediency.


That being said, if you have specific suggestions on how I can rewrite the ending to Mami Romance, Normal End, then please feel free to PM them to me. I don't mind reading a "wall of text" over PMs. I'm also willing to edit things a bit. Oh, and since you are a HomuMado shipper, I'm curious to know what you thought of my Mami Lives, Homura Romance ending.

but I got to repeat again and say I loved homuraXsayaka. this story helped me realize a pairing I was unconsciously thinking, even if its probably one of the least canon/probable one in canon.

as for the actual one you meant, that was pretty good. I like how madoka found a different way of solving the problem with the system, despite it creating a new one. never thought of that idea before.

Well... technically it'd be chapter 19 altogether if we were counting from the very beginning, but who's doing that?

Anyway, the chapter starts off with our happy couple sharing a few brief moments with each other... and... well, that's about it before the branching starts.

If Sayaka was crippled, then she and her family join the Kanames in the shelter, where the two fathers bond over a shared interest in drinks. During this, Sayaka expresses to Madoka her desire to be helping the other three, though Madoka convinces her they'll be fine... before realizing she could help them directly by making a wish... one of her ideas being the silly "I wish the witch would go away". Like that'd ever work in a series like this.

Anyway, Kyubey does indeed attempt to get her to form a contract, but Madoka ultimately declines, having decided not to even consider wishing her problems away anymore. To be like her mama and papa, and to be strong for Mami(and possibly Homura). And then cuddles next to Sayaka for the night.

The following morning, the soup-and-crackers breakfast the two shared was interrupted by the commotion caused by the sudden and unexpected appearance of Kyouko and Mami, the latter of whom seemed to have a leg injury... though nowhere near as severe as Sayaka's, of course.

While explaining the harrowing events that resulted in Mami's injury, it came to light that Homura had sacrificed herself, which deeply affected Madoka... moreso if she was seeing her on the side.

Still, Homura's sacrifice wasn't in vain, as the dynamic duo of the Swift Scarlet Spear and Glistening Golden Gunner was able to take down Walpurgis Night. Even more, due to the reunion of a certain other dynamic duo (who are most definitely not based on the title characters of Tiger and Bunny), Sayaka ended up with a prosthetic leg and Kotetsu ended up with a good job on top of it. Better still, with a bit of prodding from Madoka and Mami, Sayaka worked up the courage to confess to Kyousuke, who had been supporting her during her recovery period, and he even accepted the confession!

As for the other girl with a leg injury, she ended up with some support from Kyouko, and later a bit of surprising news from the Kanames. It seems as though there's an opening in the Kaname residence, and they need someone to fill it... I guess Mami will do, no? It also seems Tatsuya was pleased with the idea, too.

I'm also going to state once again that part of me is wishing I would've went the route that led to this ending. Seriously, I've absolutely loved what you've done with this pairing, and while it'll be sad to see it go, I'm definitely looking forward to how the rest of Delicious M&M ends. I also love the choice in music, and the end picture was nicely chosen.

Spoiler for Super Magi Wars:

If Kyousuke came to the rescue, we continue onto the battle with Walpurgis Night. A battle that starts with Homura Nanbu unleashing her Trump Card, followed by Kyouko Tarask and Mami Browning attacking WN from different ranges, and finishing off with Kyousuke V. Branstein and Sayaka Zonvolt teaming up for a Colossal Blade attack with all the force of a tornado to smite the evil witch, proving there is nothing they cannot cut! CHESTO!! (I... think I already made this joke... oh well...)

Erm, anyway... after the battle, Madoka gets confirmation that her life isn't going to be loveless when the group arrives at the shelter, resulting in her quickly rushing to greet Mami (and maybe smile at Homura). While Tomohisa tries to calm things down with the other people in the shelter, Madoka gets a report from the victorious team, a victory that Sayaka in particular was proud of.

An unfaithful Madoka is forced to balance her two ongoing relationships, though it seemed she found it more thrilling than anything. While I don't particularly care for this sort of relationship tangling, I suppose the important thing is that each participant in a relationship is happy...

Spoiler for A Couple of Couples:

If Madoka is faithful, an amazing opportunity arises due to a second major contract Kyousuke signs. Specifically, a contract with the record label for ClariS. With that and a bit of clever planning from Kyousuke, Mami got an unexpected chance at leaving a good impression with ClariS early, and with a bit of encouragement, she agreed to it.

By the way, nice pic at the end of this portion.

No matter how faithful Madoka was, she and Mami are given a bit of shocking news from Sayaka a little over a week after the battle. As it turns out, it seems as though having a deeply physical relationship with another magical... human will render Grief Seeds unnecessary. Oh, and I guess they also found out how far the relationship between Sayaka and Kyousuke has gotten.

Anyway, really nice update. I'd say I'm hoping the final Mami Lives! update will be as good as or even better than this, but I don't think that will be needed. After all, I'm confident you'll be able to do that.

Just one week since the last chapter was posted... I didn't do too bad this time, huh. It's nice to see some newcomers jumping aboard in the form of silvercover, TreacherousFox, and darkhalo, especially since the original generation of PPPL readers has gradually seemed to fade away except for me and Kogetsu. :/ Hopefully Clarami, Coldlight, and Sol Falling will all return at some point. And as a writer on hiatus that largely devoted sixty-two months to writing a story, I can very much relate to the idea of cutting corners for the sake of time, without bringing the story below a threshold where you're dissatisfied with the work. The story I wrote was time-consuming, exhausting, and something that I knew was interfering with my ability to devote myself to other things. I ended up cutting a few corners to make things more manageable, but I loved the story dearly so there was a limit to how much I was willing to hack away; I might not have explored every subplot or character arc in the depth that I'd originally hoped, but at the same time there were no subplots or character arcs I dropped entirely, and I made sure to write the story to a level close enough to my original vision that I'd have no regrets. I do plan to write a sequel series beginning in January 2020 (I'm taking such a long break for various reason, the main reason being that I really really really really really really really really really really need one), but I'm giving myself a very lenient schedule so that I can write at a casual pace and it won't interfere with other elements of my life; the sequel will be eight novels, each written across a period of two-four years, with the final story written in 2037-2038 when I'm 50 years old (The original series, in contrast, was over 50 novels, with one novel written per month). The value of pacing yourself well is something you might want to keep in mind if you take on any future writing projects. Learn from the mistakes of someone who practically drove himself crazy spending five years glued to Wordpad.

But anyway, that's enough about me - let's move along to people far more interesting than I, the puella magis that defend the town of Mitakihara. Three Hopes Remain was a very nice chapter, one that made me want to see Madoka episode 11 again... Madoka and her family hiding away from the thunderstorm was one of the most atmospheric scenes in a series that overflowed with atmosphere, an atmosphere that you managed to recapture here in written form. The increased role Madoka's father receives compared to the anime itself continues to be a strong point of this story, too; it's nice how Papa has just as strong a presence as Mama, unlike the anime where Junko was the only parent deemed important enough to say goodbye to Madoka during the final moments of her life. Honestly, in the anime Papa's main role in parenthood seems to be providing a good dick to create Madoka; afterwards he was pushed aside and Junko controlled everything.

It was at this point that I started to wonder just how many times Walpurgis Night has been battled against in Pure Pink Pretty Lovers; the Walpurgis boss fights may have broken the double digits in number by this point... I should go through the story and count sometime. It's a testament to the story's quality that these Walpurgis Night battles always remain fresh and exciting, though I admit that it's hard to think of an enemy whose track record is something along the lines of 0-12 as menacing. Jinnai and the various Witches you create inspire a greater sense of unease. And agh, those two Mourning Madoka branches... >< I get the feeling that if my introduction to PPPL came in the form of playing the Visual Novel rather than reading it on AnimeSuki, I would be using the Load button a whole lot...

Hm, about the prosthetics... there's a very good chance that by 2061, medical technology will have advanced to the point that lost limbs can be restored; one scientist that's helped to regrow lost fingers claims that the first severed arm might potentially be regrown around the very late 2020s. That can be explained away, of course, by saying that the restoration surgery is very expensive (or some other line of reasoning), but you should probably make sure the prosthetics Sayaka receives are much better than anything available in 2013. It's also doubtful that healing a broken leg would take too long given that nanotechnology is expected to proliferate during the 2020s and 2030s. I don't recall there being many moments in Pure Pink Pretty Lovers to reflect the fact that 2061 technology will be phenomenally more advanced than 2013 technology (by the early 2060s, Madoka might be zipping around the internet on her 80 zettabit connection, downloading things to her 70 yottabyte external hard drive), which I'm not sure is intentional or not... you might be trying to avoid making guesses at future technology that will later be proven incorrect. That would certainly be a smart enough way of doing things - that way you can avoid Back to the Future II-style moments, where the way of the future was not the internet, but having fax machines in every room.

Speaking of the future, the future that Mami and Madoka share is certain to be bright. The final portions of the Normal Romance route, with Mami being introduced into the Kaname family, truly made for a wonderful scene. Junko wryly asking if 10 yen a month was acceptable, the giddy and happy-to-please attitude that infected both of Madoka's parents, Mami's reaction to the sudden induction into the Kanames, the usage of the 'Lost Wings' song from the Tsubasa soundtrack. Pure gold right here, one of my favorite scenes in all PPPL.

Minigame 8: Madoka races against Tatsuya, brother and sister each in control of a remote-controlled car. You are in control of Madoka's car, with the arena being Mami's golden curls. Defeating Tatsuya isn't very hard, since he's just three years old and his motor skills aren't very developed yet; however, if you win, Tatsuya starts crying, and Mami breaks up with you for being a mean older sister and making your cute little brother cry. Mami never forgives Madoka for her act of cruelty, giving the girl the cold shoulder for the rest of their days. So make sure to lose on purpose, lest you get a Bad End so close to the finish line. ;_;

Oh, and I loved Kyouko's bit of dialogue: "Ok, fine, I gotcha." Hehe. She's so country.

"The Kyosuke to Victory" was significantly shorter, so this branch gives me less to comment upon. It was great fun as always, though, reading things from Kyosuke's perspective; shame that he's part of the puella magi team for such a short time, because it really is a treat having him along for the ride and he does lend some nice touches to the group dynamics. Ah well. This has to be one of the coolest climaxes to a Walpurgis Night battle, also! Sayaka wielding a thirty foot magical sword certainly rakes in full points on the Badass Scale.

And... wow at "I Don't Forget Homura." Madoka's more or less making bedroom eyes over her girlfriend's shoulder towards the girl she's cheating with. I... I know that becoming a mahou shoujo does wonders for Madoka's confidence, that much is obvious from the first timeline, but I never expected Madoka to be this brazen. I think she loves pussy more than Makoto Itou himself, she doesn't experience much remorse over cukolding Mami. Madoka...

Sayaka and Kyosuke are starting a ClariS journey together, huh? Clarami will have a nice update to return to whenever he comes back. ^^ It's nice to see Sayaka receive such a happy ending. I had never heard the orchestal version of the Madoka opening theme before... one of the greatest songs to be found anywhere in anime, though I've worn it out from listening to it about 13,850 times. Very nice to find a new version of the song. And aww, I loved Sayaka's bashful attitude in the closing scene; that would be a pretty awkward subject to raise. I'm sure that Madoka would have figured it out sooner or later very soon, though, so Sayaka probably could have spared herself the embarrassment. As if Madoka needs another reason to have sex... heck, she would probably have constant sex with Mami even if sex corrupted one's Soul Gem...

Mami Romance

“…What happened to me?!”

Hitomi’s shock was quite understandable. She had, after all, been dead for weeks!

But with the revelation of a relatively safe means of Soul Gem cleansing, a means that didn’t involve Grief Seeds, I determined that I could no longer justify deciding not to make a wish to resurrect my dear friend Hitomi. But I also decided that if I was going to save Hitomi, I should save all of those who died along with her!

“I wish that Hitomi Shizuki, and all of those who died with her, would be found alive and well, washed up on a deserted island near Japan!”

That was my wish to Kyubey. For the world at large, it resulted in a shocking discovery, a major news story, and numerous tearful family reunions. The reunion between Hitomi and her parents was no exception. Sayaka and I cried at the sight of Hitomi hugging her deeply moved and loving father.

We decided to keep the truth surrounding her death, and resurrection, from Hitomi. Many fantastical theories swirled about what was behind it. Many of them argued that “aliens did it”. That was ironically not too far from the truth…


“Why did you never tell us about the sexual means of cleansing Soul Gems?” a slightly angry Mami had asked Kyubey, shortly after learning the truth from Sayaka.

“Do you think most magical girls would fight witches for Grief Seeds if they knew of a safer means of cleansing Soul Gems?” Kyubey asked in turn.

“…I see.” Mami replied, “So to ensure that witches were properly opposed, it was necessary to hide the safer means of Soul Gem cleansing.”

“I’m sure you’re aware of the Greek and Roman gods of history.” Kyubey stated, “What you might not know is that they actually did exist. They were amongst the first humans that my people contracted with. And the myths surrounding them are not far from the truth. Their affairs, their petty jealousies, their abuse of power, and their increasing lack of concern for the witches that plagued humanity; all of it is true.”

“So you decided to contract only with adolescent girls.” Mami said, “There are far fewer lesbians than there are heterosexual girls and guys, so the “magical girl” is less likely to learn of the sexual means of Soul Gem cleansing than the Greek and Roman ‘gods’ that you refer to. This is especially true when you focus on adolescents instead of sexually mature women.”

“Precisely” Kyubey answered.

“Well…” Mami replied, having cooled down a bit after initially feeling very cross with Kyubey, “I can’t help but to feel disconcerted over it, but I accept and understand your reasons for hiding this from Madoka, Sayaka, Kyouko, and I. Still, Kyubey, know that this will not change my desire and willingness to oppose witches. I do not presume to speak for any but myself, but I suspect that the same will hold true for at least Kyousuke and Sayaka.”

“Yes, your assessment is likely correct.” Kyubey stated, “That was a consideration in my decision to agree to Kyousuke’s request to contract with me.”

“Well, what’s most important is that now I can help and support you in fighting witches, Mami.” I said lovingly to her, “In truth, I feel so happy over getting to be a heroic magical girl like you…”

Mami smiled warmly at me as I said this. She then slid over towards me, gently cupped my face in one hand, and lowered her head to kiss me. It was such a wonderful kiss. That kiss was but the beginning of wonderment in the days, months, and years to come…

The discovery that Sayaka and Kyousuke made was like a great blessing to me. It enabled so many wonderful events and solutions to arise.

First, I could safely wish for Hitomi to be resurrected.

Secondly, I could become a magical girl that would simply offer support to Mami, Homura, Sayaka, and Kyouko, and not have to compete with them for Grief Seeds. All witch hunts would involve teams of magical girls, removing the inherent danger of magical girls working independently and alone.

Finally, a new door has been put before me. It is a door that offers an invaluable escape to me. It is a door that provides me a path to a more open and honest life, where I can be honest to Mami about my relationship with Homura, and provide a good rationale for it!

I chose to open this door, the day after I became a magical girl. I chose to open this door through sharing a private discussion with Mami, while we ate tea and cake one beautiful, sunny afternoon at her home.


“Mami…” I said to her softly, over at her place, the day after I became a magical girl, “There is a somewhat difficult and delicate issue that I want to discuss with you.”

“What is it?” Mami asked, although her almost absent-minded tone implied that she already suspected what my answer would be.

“There are many magical girls out there in the world.” I said, “All would benefit from a safer means of Soul Gem cleansing. But not all have anybody in their life that could help them make use of that safer means.”

Mami looked slightly sad, but thankfully not at all angry over my words. She was standing up, looking away from me, while gazing out a charmingly sunlit window. She held a cup of tea in her hands. She sighed over my words.

“I can’t fault you for thinking that way…” Mami said, “You are a very altruistic person, and that is one of the many things I love about you. It is only natural that your altruism, and your practicality, would lead you to the considerations that you now share with me. Still, I have to admit that I don’t relish the thought of… sharing you, Madoka…”

Mami’s eyes shifted uncomfortably when voicing the word “sharing”.

“I know.” I replied softly, and with as much sympathy as I could muster, “So I want you to know that you will take priority in my life, Mami! You are my first love, and I want us to love each other forever, so you will always be first in my heart.”

A lone tear seeped out of one of Mami’s eyes, as she turned to face me after I said that.

“Thank you, Madoka.” she replied to me.

“So, then, does that mean…?” I began nervously, struggling to find the right words.

“Yes.” Mami thankfully answered, knowing where I was going with this, “You can take… concubines, shall we say. Whoever you find in need, and whatever you feel up to. But to be fair about it, I in turn may do the same…”

I was surprised by that. Was there a magical girl that Mami wanted to reach out to and help? Mami did seem to be fairly familiar with Kyouko Sakura.

Though a bit selfish and hypocritical of me, I really didn’t like the idea of Mami sharing anyone’s bed but mine. But, she is right. It is only fair this way. I guess to make it all work out, Mami and I will have to put each other first, even as we have physical relationships with others.


A day later, I would tell Homura the good news. I was exuberant in telling her this, as it felt like a great weight was lifted off my shoulders.

“I know how much you dislike dishonesty.” Homura said to me, with a smile, “So I’m also glad you won’t have to be dishonest with Mami about the relationship that you and I now have.”

“I just hope you don’t mind the way it is, Homura.” I said, “I mean, when the day comes for me to choose a life partner…”

“Being close to you, even just once a week, or even once a month…” Homura interjected, in a slightly dreamy tone, “Is all I’ll ever need, Madoka.”

Homura then embraced me tightly, and we passionately kissed each other.

“Now then…” Homura whispered sensuously into my ear, “Why don’t we celebrate everything that has happened lately by picking out some nice clothes for you?”

Homura winked at me after saying that. I blushed deeply!

“Y-you’re not talking about the sort of clothes you wear in public, are you?” I asked with a shy but excited smile.

Homura and I would then go on to have quite the celebration…


While Mami and I were open with each other about all of our relationships, we decided to keep most of them hidden from my parents. This seemed sensible to me since I was hiding the magical girl world in general from my parents.

But while Mami and I embraced what you could call “free love”, Kyousuke and Sayaka were truly and totally committed to each other and each other alone. I have to admit that there are times I envy this about their relationship with each other.

The day of the big ClariS and Kyousuke Kamijo concert finally arrived! It was a major fundraising event in which 50% of ticket sales for the concert would go to those who lost homes and loved ones to the destruction caused by Walpurgis Night.

Mami was one of the three setup performances for the main ClariS & Kyousuke performance. Other performers included the very popular School Idol group A-Rise and a soaring Korean Rock Band named “Gagnam Revolution!”

“Wow…” a somewhat star-struck Mami said, while sitting in an elevated chair, having make-up applied to her by one of ClariS’ stylists, “All the other performers are such professionals compared to me!”

“You’ll do fine, Mami.” I said, as I was allowed backstage due to my relationship with Mami and Kyousuke’s personal agent Sayaka, “You’re just as talented as anybody else performing tonight! And we both know how hard you’ve practiced. I just know you’ll do great.”

“Thank you, Madoka.” Mami replied warmly to me, “I guess you’re right. I guess everybody else here had to start somewhere. Nobody starts as a seasoned professional.”

“Right.” I stated, before leaning in to whisper to Mami, “Just like you weren’t a seasoned magical girl during your first witch-hunt. I’m sure you’ve come along way as a magical girl since then.”

“That’s a good analogy, Madoka.” Mami replied, “Yeah, you’re right. I just need to be confident about this!”

Thankfully, Mami was confident. In the bright several shades of orange outfit we had designed together, Mami would soon take the stage by storm!




The song she sang was titled “Arigatou”. While enjoying reserved front row seating, I started to tear up over Mami’s song. This was my first time hearing the song, and I could tell that many of the lyrics were aimed directly at me. Mami was singing “Thank You” to me!


She’s doing great! I knew that she would. And so I stand here, just off to the side of the stage, pumping a fist over my mentor’s masterful success!

“Do you know her too, Sayaka?” Clara of ClariS asked me, as she walked up behind me.

I had already met ClariS a couple times recently through Kyousuke. At first I admittedly kinda lost my composure at meeting such big celebrities. But then, after sharing a couple relaxing meals with them at a fancy restaurant, I felt at ease talking to them normally.

“Yeah, she’s one of my best friends.” I answered Clara, “She’s named Mami Tomoe.”

“Mami Tomoe.” Clara replied contemplatively, “That’s a name Alice and I will have to remember.”

“That’s great, because Mami’s dream is to become a J-Pop Idol, and specifically the third member of ClariS!” I enthusiastically exclaimed in reply, turning to face Clara.

“So she intends to take part in the talent search?” Clara asked.

“Yes… though I’ll admit that Kyousuke and I hoped this would give her a bit of a leg-up on the competition.” I replied, a bit sheepishly.

“You should consider becoming a talent scout.” Clara said.

“A talent scout?” I replied.

“Yeah, first Kyousuke, and now Mami.” Clara replied, with a big wide smile, “You certainly have a gift for attracting the gifted to you, Sayaka!”

I couldn’t help but blush over the compliment, and humbly thank Clara for it. But what made me happy about the compliment wasn’t what it meant for me, but rather what it meant for Mami!


Mami’s performance met with a rousing ovation, and a thoroughly pleased crowd. I was so intensely happy about it! A bright, new, orange star was born! And it was my sincerest wish that I would be all the support that this bright, orange star would need.

This was partly since Sayaka’s time in Mitakihara Town was soon coming to an end.

At the end of the current school year, Kyousuke was set to go on a world tour. His popularity had simply rocketed over the past two months. He admitted that his ability to use literal magic likely made his violin performances that much greater. He felt a touch of shame over this, but I told him that he shouldn’t, for it was a magic that he shared with the whole world.

“He will do for the violin what Pavarotti did for the opera!” is what British cultural critic Shawn Colwell wrote in the New York Times about Kyousuke.


Mami and I shared a tearful farewell, including many hugs, with Kyousuke and Sayaka, as the two boarded a private jet to begin Kyousuke’s world tour.

“I guess it will be up to Homura, Kyouko, and the two of us, to defend Mitakihara Town from witches from now on.” Mami said softly to me while we watched Kyousuke and Sayaka’s plane soar off into the breathtaking sunrise.

“Yes, but that will be enough.” I replied, “I know that we can do it, Mami!”

“I agree.” Mami responded, “But let’s not forget the challenges of our everyday lives as well.”

That was a good point.


My parents made a most generous invitation to Mami, for her to live under the same roof with my family, the Kaname family. Mami happily accepted the offer, which made it much easier for us to balance family, friends, school, and magical girl work.


Hitomi had shown support to Kyousuke and Sayaka, but I could also tell that a certain sadness; likely jealousy, plagued Hitomi’s heart. After Kyousuke and Sayaka left Mitakihara Town behind, Mami and I decided to spend more time with Hitomi to try to cheer her up. Thankfully, Hitomi would eventually meet a young man in high school that would win her heart, and she in turn would win his.

That individual’s name was Seto Kaiba. He had green hair and a lot of money, just like Hitomi did. Seto and Hitomi made a very cute couple! Unfortunately, though, they weren’t much fun to play board games and card games with. They could never manage to properly follow the rules! Seto was a bad influence on Hitomi in that way.

Hitomi would eventually go on to marry Seto, while Sayaka would eventually marry Kyousuke. In fact, Sayaka and Kyousuke married on New Year’s Day during the dropping of the big, glistening New Year’s ball in New York City! It was a marvellous magical night that Sayaka tells me her and Kyousuke will never forget. It was one of the few times I saw Kyousuke in tears, while Sayaka appeared completely overjoyed. I’m glad that Mami and I were able to attend their wedding.

But for Mami and I, all of this paled in comparison to Mami succeeding in her attempts to join ClariS! For her final years of high school, Mami was a J-Pop sensation in her own right, attracting large audiences and autograph-seekers wherever she went.

Ultimately, this meant that Mami did not stay with my family and I for long, as ClariS spent a lot of time travelling around Japan. But it was nice when Mami could drop in on my family and I during some weekends, spending them with us.

Mami and I made sure to stay in touch during busier days, enjoying lengthy cellphone and video conversations. I also took in as many ClariS concerts as I could to show my support to Mami.

It all made for a very busy and hectic life at times, but I was happy. Life now seemed so bold, beautiful, bodacious! As exhausted as it would sometimes leave me, I would have it no other way.

But I was thankful when Mami retired from the idol business in her early 20s, deciding to settle into a more stable lifestyle and career as a businesswoman.

As for me, I continued through school as normal, and eventually graduated. So did Mami, though it was a bit harder for her given all of her work and magical girl requirements.

After I finished school, I opened up a coffee-shop that doubled as a flower-shop. This was an idea of my father’s, and I really liked it. We opened that store while Mami and I settled down into early adult life in Mitakihara Town, with us sharing a nice new home together.

Mami and I fought side-by-side against many witches, until their numbers eventually dwindled. One of the last witches I fought was exceptionally powerful.

She had what looked like bluish skin, and she wore purple leather that vaguely resembled the soldier uniform of a Roman Centurian. However, instead of a standard centurian helm, she wore a purple hood and cloak. Underneath that hood and cloak was not a face… but a menacingly grinning and glowing yellow skull!

Mami nicknamed this witch “Skeletra”.

Skeletra fired off powerful blasts from a ramhead staff that she was carrying, and she cackled with villainous glee! She somehow was able to summon all manner of beast and creature to oppose Mami and I, but she had a particular fondness for anything snake-like in appearance. Thankfully, Mami and I were able to blast these creatures all away with her muskets and my pink arrows. But eventually, I was caught off-guard by Skeletra somehow teleporting right behind me, and striking me in the back with a blast from her ramhead staff.

“Aaaaaaggghhh…!!!” I cried, as the blast caused me to collapse to my knees.

“Ha ha ha ha ha ha!” Skeletra cackled, as she tilted back her head, and pumped both of her fists through the air.

Mami furiously glared at Skeletra for hurting me like this, and then proceeded to shoot off a mesmerizing myriad of muskets! Skeletra survived the onslaught, but her ramhead staff did not. With Skeletra now effectively disarmed, she would not be able to put up any more resistance.

I attacked with a loud shout, and the shooting of a big, bright beam of a pinkish arrow! The arrow struck straight through Skeletra’s skull, causing her to explode violently!

Mami and I smile at each other, and celebrated after that hard-fought victory. Thankfully, we haven’t faced a foe quite as nasty as Skeletra since that victory.

Given that fact, it seemed to the two of us that the perfect time had finally arrived for us to formally commit ourselves to each other for life.


Mami and I both wore wedding dresses for our marriage day, but Mami officially took on “the Groom” role to satisfy Kyousuke’s desire to be “Best Man” for the occasion. Sayaka was my Bride’s Maid.

We were married at the church of Kyouko’s father, which had been rebuilt in recent years. Kyouko played the role of the Priest for the occasion. While this was a very solemn and blissfully happy occasion for Mami, myself, and the closest friends and family members of Mami and I, we decided to have a little bit of fun at the expense of a certain someone in the groom’s section of the congregation.

“If anyone objects to this marriage, let them speak now or forever hold their peace…” Kyouko stated, while smirking slightly and putting a lot of emphasis on "objects".

There was a certain someone in the audience that just can’t resist objecting. His name is Kazuki Kudo, one of Mami’s best friends and sole caretaker for quite some time. He’s better known as Phoenix Wright.

After Kyouko’s statement, Kazuki Kudo came to a standing position, and was about to make his trademark finger-point arm thrust forward.

“Ob-objec…” he began in stammering statement, before the current situation was enough to overwhelm his obsession, “… No objections, your honor.”

The crowd erupted in laughter, while Mami and I giggled and Phoenix Wright blushed beat red! Mami and I will always be thankful to Kazuki Kudo for lending his beach house to us during our first vacation together, and now we're also thankful to him for adding such memorable and welcomed levity to our wedding.

But soon the laughter ended, and Mami and I could only stare passionately into each other’s eyes after lifting up each other’s veils. We then made the deepest, wettest kiss we could muster! Our wedding was truly a dream fully realized.


The only part of our dreams that now seemed beyond us was either of us having a biological child. This is due to the effect of infertility that Soul Gems have on our bodies. But a brilliant scientist found a way around that. A brilliant scientist named Dr. Jail Scaglietti!

Through his incredible reproductive technologies, Dr. Scaglietti was able to create a child that would be the biological daughter of both Mami and me. We named our beautiful blonde daughter, Momo.




Momo is such a wonderful child, who seems to have inherited all the best qualities of both Mami and myself. It’s definitely not hard to imagine her becoming a great Puella Magi one day, as Mami and I have not kept the truth of that from her, and I think she admires us for it.




Momo has already become very fond of Kyousuke’s violin playing, and a big lover of Hitomi’s delicious desserts. She also enjoys playing children’s card games with Seto… though Seto has a bad tendency to make her cry with his trap cards. I’m really going to have to talk to him about that!

The magic of the Puella Magi world was once a frightening and ominous thing for both Mami and I, but it’s since become a seemingly unblemished blessing. It is something that has brought us together, in unending union and joyous jubilation. I will always be thankful to Mami for what she has brought into my life, and I know that the feeling is mutual. We will love each other always…

But enough about dictators named after bovine, let's get to the point of this, shall we?

We're no strangers to this wish thing. Kyubey knows the rules, and so does Madoka. A full revival's what she's thinking of... Okay, yeah, this was lame.

Anyway, aside from the alien conspiracy theories surrounding the revival of Hitomi and several others, not much of note happens during the first portion of this chapter, so let's get to the good stuff, starting with Mami chewing out Kyubey.

As much as I really love watching Mami get angry at Kyubey, the little rat does make a disturbingly good point in that, if there were a safer method to doing something, most people wouldn't put their lives in danger over it. And after seeing that bit about the Greek/Roman gods being people the Incubators once contracted with... I kinda want to see Puella Magi Xena.

But more to the point, Madoka can now help Mami cleanse her Soul Gem in more ways than one, if you know what I mean.

Of course, it also opens up the ability for Madoka to be a little more open with her other ongoing relationship... at the cost of knowing Mami would also be having other relationships. I don't exactly blame Madoka for being just a little upset over having to share Mami with other girls... She is quite the catch, after all.

And of course, Homura is okay with the idea... especially seeing as she got to... celebrate the news, shall we say.

And she could also support Mami in other ways, such as helping her in her dreams of becoming an idol. And must I say, that is quite a star-studded lineup for this concert... but I'd have to say Mami is the crown jewel of it.

By the way, I love the image chosen for this... especially Homura's "I ♥ Madoka" fan. Quite an appropriate visual for this particular storyline.

Anyway, we also get to see a glimpse into Sayaka's future as a talent scout, as well as Mami's potential future with ClariS.

Sadly, the long-standing close friendship between Madoka and Sayaka wouldn't remain quite as close anymore, due to the latter leaving on a jet plane, and we don't know when she'll be coming back again... oh, how I hate to see her go...

But the good news is that everyone ended up happy. In addition to the unions of Mami/Madoka and Sayaka/Kyousuke, Hitomi even met with a certain individual known for his affluence and inability to adhere to regulations... I wonder if they'll name their child something like Noa... nah, that would be silly. Noa Kaiba?

But I'm getting ahead of myself, aren't I? After all, there's still quite a bit more before Madoka and Mami tie the knot.

Spoiler for Stunning Idol:

If Madoka stuck with Mami through thick and thin(which "Me!doka" certainly did ), the latter gets to live out her dream of being an idol alongside ClariS, and quite frankly, if this particular Madoka is anything like me, she'd be proud of Mami.

After Madoka finished with school, she and Mami opened up a little store together, while also battling witches alongside one another.

In fact, one witch in particular seemed quite menacing... but with the power of yuri, Madoka and Mami demonstrated they had the power to come through! I really liked this scene, by the way. Both for the battle itself, as well as the fact it gave us a glimpse into how well our happy couple works together in combat situations. A great addition.

But then we get to the most important day of Mami and Madoka's life... I wonder if it was a Tuesday... oh wait, I already made that joke.

Sayaka and Kyousuke naturally attended the wedding, and Kyouko officiated... and naturally there was a bit of trolling directed towards a certain attorney of note.

Once again, the brilliant Dr. JS assisted with another important event in the lives of Madoka and Mami... and this pretty girl who was the result of that cure of his would be named Momo. I absolutely LOVE the choice here, by the way.

Anyway, this was an outstanding end to a storyline that actually had me regretting my decision to "officially" stick with my original choice with MO1 on several, several occasions... as well as the technically more positive choice I made regarding Sayaka and Kyousuke, because the negative outcome actually had some of my favorite scenes between Madoka and Mami. Truly, this conclusion was worth the wait, and I hope this review has been worth it for you, as well.



And... Since this half of the project is finally complete, I figured I'd do something a bit different...

Okay, it's been a long road getting here, with many bumps along the way for Madoka. To be honest, this side could probably work as a VN on its own.

That being said, this was quite a ride, and I enjoyed every step of the way. From the joys and trials Sayaka's route had, to the romance and turmoil in Mami's, to the rather cute coupley interactions in Homura's subroute... even Sayaka's own little VN experiences were quite a blast.

Honestly, this has been amazing. That's really all there is to it. A job very well done. Seriously, you've earned every ounce of praise you've gotten for this, and then some.

Well, well, well, at long last, we reach the final conclussion of the Mami Is Alive route.

To be honest, the part involving secretly being unfaithful to Mami with Homura had an unexpected finale.

Spoiler for Reason why it was unexpected:

I never predicted that Mami would suggest Madoka taking on a concubine for herself if she so desired. It was a surprising turn of events. Although I have to admit that what I was expecting was something like "Madoka can't live with the burden and admits to having been unfaithful, Mami either accepts it or admits that she did the same to Madoka with Kyoko when our pinkette wasn't looking, then all three/four live a happy life like mormons. Yeah, I'm an incurable perv.

All in all, though, it was sweet. Made me eager about seeing how will the Mami Is Dead route will go on.

Also, all of sudden I wonder how would the Spanish dubbers of Madoka would react to this fic, specially Carmen Ambrós, Madoka's dub VA. c.c

It's been quite a journey; January 26th 2012 feels to me to be quite some time ago, the day the chapter containing the Mami Lives Prologue was posted. I have to admit, I've been spoiled by 16 months of Mami living... some of the future routes where she's nowhere to be found will seem sad... >< But though it's bittersweet to say our farewells to Mami, the chapter presented here was, as always, more sweet than bitter. I mean, I can't be too sad whenever I'm reading some new PPPL. This story rules, rumors say that there wasn't much panic on December 21st because people were too busy reading PPPL and forgot all about the end of the world.

The idea of Hitomi, along with every other person that lost their life as well, being revived and washing upon the shore of a nearby island is a very nice one. Madoka granted the world one of the warmest and happiest events it would ever know; it made me think of that mining incident a few years ago where all the miners escaped alive and well, something that should have been tragic but had an almost inconceivably perfect, happy ending. (Though the miners suing people a year or two later did spoil the magic some... :/ ) The line about the 'aliens did it' theory being not too far from the truth made me smile, too.

I always wondered if the mechanics or the reasoning behind sex restoring Soul Gems would ever be explained. The matter was tackled here in this chapter, and not only does it make perfect sense, it actually results in Pure Pink Pretty Lovers making more sense than the actual canon storyline, since it gives an extra reason for contracting only with teenage girls besides them being the most emotional creatures (a dubious claim to begin with). Linking the mahou shoujo world to ancient Greek and Roman mythology was great and just heightens the sense that the magical world played a role behind the scenes throughout every era of mankind. Ah, and cleansing the Soul Gem through sex was referred to as being 'relatively' safe, which denotes some degree of danger. Were you thinking of STDs or something with that quote?

Hippie Homura Harem! was a very interesting scene. Speaking to your partner about changing your relationship to an open one certainly isn't an easy thing to do... I think Sayaka might have had a stronger reaction were she the one dating Madoka, and might have needed more time, but thankfully Mami is more understanding of the situation. Of course, Madoka doesn't mention that she's been cheating on Mami since before she knew that sex restores one's Soul Gem... oh well, no point sweating the small details, I suppose. I'm not sure it was intended, but Mami's "But to be fair, I in turn may do the same..." seemed somewhat cold and had a little bit of a bite to it. I almost got the impression that Mami's spirits were rather dampened by the turn their relationship had taken... that might just be me, though.

Musically Magical Mami... great read. I don't tend to care much for glitz and glamor and blinding lights in real life, but I enjoy them much more in fictional settings (Gritty and shady dance clubs, concerts, the idol scene, and so on), and this chapter was no exception. "Arigatou" is a damn good song and did a fantastic job at enhancing the mood and atmosphere of the scene, and I loved the piece of fanart used here. XD Mami is very pretty there, and her chibified puella magi cheerleaders are adorable. The idea of Sayaka being a talent scout is an interesting one; she's probably the best-suited for the job out of the five mahou shoujos (well, six counting Hitomi). Either her or Kyouko, anyway, who I could see being skilled at such a job after she mellows out. Or even before then, I guess; "Try to enter the musical world or I'll break your arms and legs" is motivational too in its own way. "And it was my sincerest wish that I would be all the support that this bright, orange star would need." was a very nice line, and a good emotional climax to the scene. I also look forward to Clarami fangasming over the inclusion of Clara.

Minigame number nine! In the vein of Guitar Hero or Parappa the Rapper, you have to push certain buttons at the exact right moment to help Mami sing her song successfully. Worry not if you're no good at Guitar Hero; it's actually impossible to lose this minigame, the audience is so enamored with Mami that even if you miss every note and Mami sings every single word off-key, her fanbase won't even notice.

I lol'd at much of the paragraph about Hitomi's relationship with Seto Kaiba. I agree with the prose that they would make a nice couple, but yeah, I got a good laugh at the mention of them never following the rules. You could probably write a spin-off comedy series (with all the seriousness of a 4koma or omake) about playing card games with Kaiba and Hitomi. So Sayaka and Kyosuke were married New Year's Day 2062, eh... sounds like a perfect day and a perfect beginning to the year, and that's a beautiful fanart you found to help depict the moment.

Hmm... so Mami retires from the world of idolhood when she's in her early 20s... that means she became an idol in 2061 and quit her career sometime during the late 2060s (She was born around 2046 in PPPL canon, so she probably retired no later than 2069ish). So the 2060s were a dizzying whirlwind of a time with Mami being a famous idol, wheras the 2070s are calmer and more stable, with the two girls settling down, getting married, and starting a family. Both decades sound great in their own way and are nice to think about. Speaking of the wedding, the Phoenix Wright moment was one of the cutest jokes in the story. Madoka and Mami probably could have chosen a better moment to have the deepest, wettest kiss they were capable of, though. As much as I enjoy imagining such a thing, that couldn't have good for poor Homura to watch. Hopefully Homura won't cry into her pillow for too many nights following that.

Oh... and I've never watched He-Man, but the Skeletor theme is badass.

Once I delve back into PPPL, there are some "canon story" routes left to handle, all picked up around Episode 7 or so of PMMM, IIRC. There is also, however, a more action-packed, fantasy story involving Madoka, Sayaka, and Homura joining Kyouko's Rebels against Emperor Jinnai which I have (largely) already plotted out to the end.

Do regular readers have any preference for where they'd like for me to go next?

Definitely. I can't think of many anime characters that left a stronger impression in just 3 episodes of content than what Mami Tomoe did. In spite of how little screen-time she had in the anime, I found it very easy and pleasant to write her, both for her dialogue and also for her narration in some scenes. And keep in mind that I'm not someone who's read all of the Madoka Magica spin-off works. The only other place where I've personally read additional Mami was in Oriko Magica, but that honestly had little impact on my writing of her (aside from action scenes, perhaps).

The anime alone gave Mami a wonderfully strong characterization in just three episodes, and it was a lot of fun to take that to places that the anime could never allow.

The "sex restores Soul Gems" aspect of my narrative admittedly has a "That's so very convenient..." feeling to it, but what I think can make it seem a bit more legitimate is how it now ties into "Here's the real reason Kyubey only contracts with adolescent girls."

Yeah, knowing as we do that Kyubey wants magical humans to eventually turn into witches, it makes sense that he wouldn't want humans to have an easy means of avoiding it (sexual relationships amongst themselves). By focusing strictly on adolescent girls, there's far less likelihood of magical humans avoiding Soul Gem corruption through sex.

Some may then wonder "Why would Kyubey agree to Kyousuke becoming a magical human, when even Kyubey must have known that him and Sayaka were likely to discover the sexual means of Soul Gem cleansing following that?". My thinking is that this is exactly what Kyubey wants, as it would pave the way to Madoka becoming a magical girl. Otherwise, Kyubey doesn't even get the energy that comes from Madoka becoming a magical girl (as we see with the "Normal Ending" for Mami Romance).

I've considered adding a potential downside to the method to make it seem less easy/convenient. One idea I've considered is that if two magical humans have sex together purely for Soul Gem cleansing purpose (i.e. without the two having any strong feelings whatsoever for each other, even real friendship), then the process actually corrupts their Soul Gem rather than cleansing it.

But barring that, yeah, we'll just go with STDs.

I did intend for Mami to come off this way. It's important to remember what leads to this scene if you get it. One thing that lead to this scene was the end of the Beach weekend trip/date/vacation. At the end of that, Homura and Mami had quite the spat with each other. If you get "Hippie Homura Harem!", then that spat ended with Madoka handling it in a way that was displeasing and hurtful to Mami.

Mami's not dumb. Given all of what I just wrote, she knows that Madoka is thinking "Homura" even if Madoka isn't coming right out and saying Homura's name. And that reminds Mami of the sad end to the Beach weekend date (for those who get HHH!). I think it makes sense for Mami to feel challenged, and maybe even "one-upped", by Homura. Mami insists on the "concubine" terminology as a way of saying to Madoka - "At the very least, Madoka, I will be coming first in your life, as far as romance is concerned".

Mami's willingness to take "concubines" herself is rooted partly in a sincere concern for Kyouko, as a relative loner like Kyouko might otherwise have a hard time finding someone to Cleanse Soul Gems with through sexual means.

Thanks! Mami's seiyu really does have a great singing voice, making this all that much more believable since that's also Mami's voice, of course.

Given that Clara is a real life person, I was hesitant to give her many lines, but I don't think this much will hurt.

Green-haired Kaiba strikes me as a great match for Hitomi. I imagine it eventually being like Vegeta/Bulma in DBZ. And yeah, I think its pretty clear that Kaiba and Hitomi both like screwing the rules. One does it in children's card games while the other does it in teenage romances...

That fanart and one other was actually a big part of my decision to go down a "Magical Boy Kyousuke" route. Fanart has always been a big inspiration for PPPL, so I hope the Madoka Magica fanart never stops coming!
