Incidentally...I don't know if production declines from the earthquake are to blame, but over the last couple of weeks, it's been hard to find the new books at the bookshops around here. Volume 3 of the Sheryl manga and Tenjin's Second Sortie were easy enough, but the SnT Official Complete Book didn't show up until the middle of last week, four copies. I snatched one up. The next day, they were all gone.

And I haven't seen the Sheryl Visual Book or the VF-25 Master File anywhere yet.

So take them as art books, and you won't be disappointed.
That's kinda what I thought when I saw the sample pics on amazon - that it seemed almost like it could be aircraft books made for in-universe mecha fans (e.g. Alto) - though my interpretation would have me believing that the interviews in our world's aircraft books might be 'fiction'...

But I am sooooo tempted...

Yot-chan, if you can preoder from amazon, you'll get them pretty much asap (I think), and all shipping should still be free within Japan.

True, but I'm old-fashioned...I prefer to walk into the store, buy the book, and walk out with it in my hands.

There's also the fact that there's a very good independent bookstore near my work, and I like to support it.

Also...I just realized that the release date for the VF-25 book is TODAY, and it's currently 9:36 AM here...none of the bookstores are open yet, and packages probably haven't been delivered yet. So, obviously, while I can't be certain until I've got the book, that (to me) casts some doubt on the 2ch post that Darkplataform quoted.

Well, I can. It was one of my great hopes for the showand if the Vajra hadn't shot her down, I'm pretty sure she would have gotten Michael's VF-25 back to Macross Quarter. She was leveling out before the Vajra hit her.

True...there's always something about the little shop around the corner...

Guess I've been living in places without them for far too long...

One of the 2ch posters did say that (s)he'd picked up the book. But we've all learned not to trust things until we can see them for ourselves...

Wait what? Sheryl can pilot a VF-25? that's awesome

I don't understand why Alto needs to use a pseudonym, is something wrong with being a member of SMS?

So it's confirmed that this story really comes within the VF-25 Master File, right?
Of course I can't understand anything from that blog, but using google I read something about Macross Olympia and that it is the same size as Germany (?), Sheryl and Alto are 22 now and something about Sheryl hiring pilots.

Edit:
Kresphy posted something about this with images @ MW

Spoiler for space:

I like the VF-25 with Sheryl's emblem, if there is something interesting in the images I hope someone could translate a little bit.

There is nothing wrong with being in the SMS, that is why Alto is still an active member of the SMS despite using a pseudonym.

However, there is something wrong with being Alto Saotome, especially considering his relationship with Sheryl.

Well that's more understandable, I think he would not like to be bothered by others and the pilots he trains because of who he is.

Yes, those are the same pictures Kresphy posted, oh and thanks for posting the sketch.

This little story is interesting, from what I can understand Sheryl hired two exlusive VF-25 from SMS to be her escorts and SS (secret service) and they are called the "Queen's Knights" , one of them is Alto, it says something about leaving the Vajra Planet with her because of an oath when he said "No matter what happens You'll never be alone", he pilots the SMS#1123 (the one from the picture) and do aerobatics at Sheryl's concerts.

And apparently Alto is getting famous within SMS, some of his companions say that when he is flying it looks like a dance so they started to call him "Sword Dancer"

The only thing I'm confused is if Alto trains the new pilots when he and Sheryl arrive to a new fleet because he is part of her SS, or if it's a separate job.

Y'know, I wouldn't be so averse to a total cut-off of Frontier animated products if supplemental works would at least finish the story... this Chronicle article alone would have helped 1000% to alleviate my last little concerns if it would have been "official".

Okay...picked up the VF-25 book today (and the Sheryl Visual Collection), and, as you all know by now, the story is indeed in there, along with the pictured Sheryl-styled Valk (I wonder why no one posted a pic of the Valk right above that one, that says "THANK YOU RANKA!!" on it...?).

As far as paint schemes go, though, my favorite is the VF-25VJ "Vajra-Aggressor" that's actually painted to LOOK like one of the big red Vajras...

And yeah, there's the little note on the last page that says that the Valkyrie development and history section, and the Macross Olympia section, are NOT part of the "official setting" of the Macross series. So, uh...yeah. That about says it all, really.

That's one of those few moments that I am sad that this ain't an American show, where we could reasonably expect someone to ask a writer at a convention "why exactly this isn't canon material".

...but back to the REALLY important things about the book, they show a TON of variations of the VF-25, including the VRF-25F Recon Messiah, the VC-25V VIP-Messiah (for escorting VIPs), and the absolutely outrageous VF-25WR Wyvern, which is a biplane.

I also squee'd quite a bit when I saw the VF-25 in Emerald Force colors, as well as the Pixie Squad variant, and Ozma's post-2060 bird, which is done up in low-viz colors.

The New Edwards Air Base color scheme is also nice...think Isamu's VF-11B.

Wait wait wait... a VF=25 biplane? As in it has two sets of wings one on top of the other? Why the heck would anyone build something like that?

Some of the other material sounds really awesome though. I'd kind of like to own a copy of the book, it sounds really awesome, but I think the inability to understand it would frustrate me. Which is too bad -I rather liked the mecha information that was included in the supplementary book for Full Metal Panic that was licensed and translated several years ago. But aside from the licensing issue with Macross I guess there isn't that big a market for such things over on this end of the pond... (anime itself is kind of a niche market, so that kind of material would be a niche market within a niche market).

As for the fact that this material is unofficial... maybe they wanted to explore possibilities without doing anything that would limit their options for future projects?

I can't understand much of it, and I still think it was totally worth it.

That's what I was thinking, too.

Yes! Pilot Sheryl! At last! Someone else who believes it can be done once she has finished her training. I mean come on people, not everyone can be Mylene and simply be an instant Ace for being the spawn of two of the most competent and badass pilots to have ever lived. These things take time. Time spent not doing a photo shoot.

Also, it's blue. Just as I predicted.

Well, I can imagine Sheryl as a pilot, but only outside combat situations. I don't think she would even have the time to go through the full training course. But maybe she can reasonably fly one, to the point that she can pilot a fighter for a simple performance or something.

Vega CC in Macross Frontier movie 1 Question?

Sorry to interupt thius thread, but I was kindly wondering if Sheryl's Nome Vega Credit Card that was used in the Macross Frontier Movie 1 is for sale, or comes with a specific model? I just ask, because I really want that Vega CC. I'm to lazy to make my own. Thanks inadvance.

Grey with blue highlights, actually.
