I see your point. I was all about saying "love triangles have nothing to do with that!", but on further thinking his decisiveness in choosing Miriya and sticking with it through hell and high water precludes him from any love triangle activity.

Protagonists in love triangles can't have that same level of decisiveness or the triangle will be over immediately.

But can they top what Frontier had? The mix of Nakajima Megumi, May'n and Sakamoto Maaya is a tough act to follow imho.

wow new macross tv series!! Have to support it since, after all, I created an animesuki account because of macross F So Macross will forever be a bit more special to me XD

Hope it's a completely new series...as for the love triangle, I still prefer 1 male lead + 2 female co-leads

...to be honest, the love triangle is a sideshow for me. I'm in it for the new VFs. What wonderful designs will we see? What other new mook unit will be made? Because turning VF-19s and VF-25s into cannon fodder would result in a lot of rage.

...but if it's remake SDF Macross? Like the Yamato 2199 remake?

Ooo, I like it. Maybe they could genderflip the entire Zentradi force so that most of them are giant moe girls who throw down their weapons and decide to become idols after being exposed to Minmei's music. At the end of the series they depart Earth to bring the miracle of music to the far corners of the Zentradi domain.

I am not open to a female ace protagonist. Mecha series in general do not bode well in me with females ace pilots.

And also, please do not make technology as stupid as in Macross 7. (Read in context please)

Well, the thing with Macross is that the protag usually pilots standard issue valkyries. That's what I like about the franchise.

Could be. The whole point of the VF-25 was to help cut cost while providing the ability to specialize for certain roles if needed. The VF19/22 were both extremely expensive and only rolled out for spec ops units. Even the VF 22 had to trim cost by dropping the mind control interface. Gamlin, Max and Millia use this model at some point in the M7 series.

I'm really hoping the new Macross will bring the whole "natural" vs "cyborgs/augments" social debate to the front. There was HUGE potential about how divergent the colony fleets were becoming from Earth.

I would think the YF-29 would be too expensive and specialized to mass produce unless it got a severe downgrade. I guess the same also applies for the YF-30 .

Official reason is they are too expensive to mass-produce, thus these fighters are often utilized by specialist squadrons. Of course, the real reason behind it is so they do not steal the spotlight.

Nonetheless, with the technology presented in-series, and considering the industrial capacity of NUNS, being too expensive is hardly a justification

By the time of Frontier, the amount of fleets and associated vessels possessed by the NUNS is quite... staggering to say the least (we are talking about at least 1/4 the size of the fleet brought to the Solar System by Boddole Zer).

Macross colonies are individual political entities, each probably adhere to the basic NUNS constitution but certainly each with their own quirks. Cybernetics was never a big issue, nor were there arguments about cybernetics vs naturals (the NUNS had done far more controversial things in the past). There aren't any colonies that reject a cybernetically augmented individual (save for availability for augmentation), but there are colonies & planets that reject natural-sized Zentradi.

I would like say love triangle is just sideshow for me too, but I would lie. Macross is only franchise I know that allows better girl to win, which is not just impossible in any other mecha show (yes, I look on you Sunrise), but very rare in general. So I can't not give it lot and lot credit for it.

PS: but Valkyries are still one of best mechas ever.
