Dead Leaves, Cat Soup, and Mindgame are all about as insane as FLCL.
They're all under two hours, and all but Mindgame are available on R1 DVD.

You could try Gintama. It's not really the same as flcl, but it is unusual. After watching three episodes, it seems to be some sort of parallel universe where, instead of Admiral Perry arriving in japan with a few gunships, actual aliens arrived. I could be off on that though.

You could also try Suzumiya Haruhi. I can't say enough good things about this show, though I'm not sure if it's what you're looking for. Still, it's worth checking out.

Definitely also recommend Jungle wa Itsumo Hale nochi Guu (Hare and Hale are interchangeable)

I also highly recommend you check out any recent Ghibli movies. They're as weird as they come.

Just to name a few:

Howl's Moving Castle
Spirited Away

That'll get you hooked.

Have you seen Mind Game?

I found it astounding and utterly captivating. It's certainly "out of the ordinary". Bizzare and experimental, both in terms of style and content.

The movie isn't licensed, but it isn't listed on AnimeSuki for whatever reason.

It's because the R2s have English subs. It's not too hard to find on the net if you try hard enough, I most certainly recommend this if you want out of the ordinary.

Or if you're too lazy, why not get the recently-released episode 9 of Ayakashi ~Classical Japanese Horror~ subbed by gg fansubs? It's ep 9, but don't worry - the show is divided into 3 arcs which are stand alone stories by completely different teams (you can consider them as 3 separate shows), ep 1-4 and 5-8 I don't recommend, but do watch episode 9. Very fresh visuals and extremely creative. That arc lasts only for 2 more episodes, but those haven't been subbed yet.

Yes, believe in the young sensei. She's so damn right, I don't know why I didn't watch episode nine immediately.

Oh, wait. It hasn't been subbed until today. Heh ...

Believe in wao ^^ that recommendation is so ... damn ... correct ...

How about giving an example instead of just pointlessly saying yes without any justification? Sheesh...

Well, here's another anime (on youtube) - though it's not strictly a TV show or anything, it's in fact a 5 minute advertisement for Louis Vuitton by the well known Takashi Murakami, directed by Mamoru Hosoda (One Piece movie 6, ORIGINAL Digimon movie [not the mangled US shit], Spiral OP, etc.)

Seriously do not watch it if you're prone to epilepsy. Do NOT. Ever.

By the way I think more people will have recognized what I am talking about if I just mentioned "Superflat Monogram". You might have already watched it anyway

Excel Saga and its counterpart, Puni Puni Poemi. Futakoi Alternative too. Seems like you're looking for a comedy more than anything else.

Yes, watch suzumiya haruhi

Its totally out of the ordinary, theres nothing normal about the show as well. even the way the episodes are presented are weird.

Right now its one of the hottest topics on animesuki, so its a good time to watch it.

I should think you would like watching Ergo Proxy. It's a cyberpunk, futuristic thriller set in a postmodern world. It could be parallels with SAC, and both are good anime.

Man, Guu is awesome. Find it at all costs!

There's one last title on my list that I forgot; Bokusatsu Tenshi Dokuro-chan. Not sure if you would enjoy the crude humor, I surely didn't. It's a crazy, wtf show nevertheless.

*goes off to watch Mind Gme*

xxxholic, you won't be dissapointed. The Series is very good, and I liked the movie to, though I couldn't watch it entirely because of playback problems.

I'm going to add Higurashi no Naku Koroni to my earilier recommendations. It's an interesting series about a boy who moves into a small, rural town. Eventually he discovers a series of bizzare murders, suicides, and dissappearences apparently linked to a failed attempt to build a dam which would have flooded the valley the town is in 8 years before. The locals blame these strange occurences on the curse of oyashiro-sama, the local guardian deity, but is that what's really going on, and is there also a connection to 4 girls he befriended?
