Computer has no sound!! please help!

ok, I have this computer, and my virus scanner is AVG free edition. The computer is old and runs on windows 98. it has. 188mb ram. CPu is...pentium celeron. i dont know what number cuz it dont say, i think cuz it's soo slow..... Theres no soundcard, but it's built into the motherboard. The sound suddenly went out. it just plopped out. anyway to fix it? is there anything i can try???

Look in device manager. Does the sound card show up? Does it have a question mark or exclamation point next to it?

The PC Speaker is mostly for beeps and warning and not for audio playback. If it's used for a lot of audio playback, it could have gone bad. you can replace it with a sound card (starting at $9 ebay) or replace the PC speaker (%9-29)

i guess i will just go ahead and get a new sound card. like a real cheap one.
