Am I the only one here that bothers to pick up the first print hardcover edition of Dan Brown's (supposedly highly anticipated) The Lost Symbol ?

John Dies at the End. For like the hundredth time this month.

I'm also rereading the Haruhi light novels. I'm on Disappearance right now. Forgot how great those books were.

I reread books more than I go through new ones.

Read the first 150 pages of Lost Symbol and I regret to say it kinda flow like how it was in Angels & Demons and Da Vinci Code.

For the uninitiated to Brown's style, we have a murder of someone of stature to the plot in the prologue and we see Langdon being asked to investigate the puzzling clue left at the scene. Next we are introduce to various characters which includes the perpetrator himself followed by (short) chapters of shifting between perspectives as the story progress. Kinda show how limited Brown is as a writer when it comes to the plot development.

What makes up for this aspect is the amount of trivials that Brown had dig up and littered throughout the book to engage the reader. But I don't see Lost Symbol being the hit that was Da Vinci Code. And Brown better find another way to structure his next book featuring Langdon else he's not going to find readers coming back for more, as we can see from the Amazon reviews for his new book.

Well right now I've got 2 series I am currently reading. I've gotten into the Greywalker series by Kat Richardson and the Weather Warden series by Rachel Caine. I have to say I'm enjoying the Weather Warden series of books more. They're series along the lines of Kim Harrison and Jim Butcher for 2 more well known authors to use as examples. I love books on the supernatural like this so they're right up my alley. Just got done reading the Kingdom Wars series by Jack Cavanaugh before these ones. Pretty decent.

The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare.

I've finished all three books and I've heard of possible plans of trying to convert the series to film. I'm already working on doing some sketches on some of the items mentioned within the book and plan on posting it on my Facebook profile and also am going to create a folder for it.

Ah a classic. There's also at least one movie version out there too, I think the book is a lot better.

I finished The Road. It's very dark and depressing but it's a worthwhile read. The movie trailer looks alright but there just so much non-action that making a movie out of it seems rather awkward, but that's not to say it can't be done.

Oooh this post just gave me a great new idea for an av/sig combo! Haha sidetracked :/
For Manga, I got Tale of an Unknown Country vol. 1 and I'm pretty disappointed. Girl and boy (oops sorry princess and prince) meet and fall in love....in the first chapter. Nothing even remotely interesting happens afterwards

My pleasure reading has had to drop a bit after entering college...so many textbooks to read ;_; I only managed to read six books this month.

But, they were pretty good. Read the first Haruhi novel from Yen Press, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, since I wanna go read all the Victorian classics, Apocalypse Culture Volume 1. The standout was definitely Greg Egan's "Dark Integers and Other Stories." I think Greg Egan may be the absolute best living Science Fiction writer, in terms of short fiction. He just handles complex, mind-blowing ideas so well...and he's able to temper the hardcore technical science with actually good characterization and emotion, a balance that's hard to strike. I've already ordered a couple more of his books, hopefully they'll get here soon.

文学少女”と恋する挿話集 (episode) from 野村美月. Fews shorts stories providing different view on the main story but still being readble as stand alone. The chapter ''文学少女と"祝福する詩人 alone was worth the shipping cost from Amazon.co.jp.
