Entirety of it or just Crimea?

I'm sure Russia knows that actually invading the entirety of Ukraine might just start world war fucking 3.

Entirety. The permission is about "territory of Ukraine" (literally), not Crimea specifically

God, this is just like 1936 back again.

China would most likely attack Japan, and anime will end!

Lol. I'm sure Russia knows that invading Ukraine won't start WW3. Since no one in his right mind in NATO is going to risk a world war for Ukraine. And definitely not the austerity-hit Europe.

Russia's invasion into Ukraine would be legal if: You consider Yanukovich as the legitimate president, and he kinda still is. Under the CIS obligations, Russia is obliged to use its military to restore constitutional order in Ukraine, if Ukraine's legitimate leadership demands it.

Russia's invasion into Ukraine would be illegal if: You consider Kiev's new leadership as legitimate, but that's highly questionable, considering they came to power in violation of the constitution and kicked 2 parties out of the parliament.

Maybe. But are there any other choice? Let the Crimean alone, it might trigger a wave of distrust through out Russia's allies, and maybe even inside her, a country that is made up of many autonomous areas.

Who know, maybe next time it would be Lunarian or even Martian.

Plus, Anime won't end. Just look at RWBY.

Wow....Really?

Or is it just a protect and secure op?

An all out invasion in this case is unlike Georgia...at least in 2008 they were clearly in the right. Now it's....quite bad PR for neutral observers...

Many people here (I dare say most of them) consider Crimea and Sevastopol Russian territory and the current people in Rada as western-allied-nazi. No distrust inside here As for the neighbouring countries... Belarus has nothing to worry about and so does Kazakhstan, so... no, not likely

They have found enough dirt left in Yanukovich's home to make sure he won't get re-elected in any election, and that assumes they don't simply nail him for corruption. Yanukovich is not going to get his power back without being an outright dictator. And if Russia wants him put back in control of Ukraine then they would be installing a dictator. Because if he gets power back there is no way he would allow either fair elections or any kind of protests ever again.

No, not the western allies. The one on the South! - Namely Vietnam.

Oh well, time for the FSB and GRU to get WILD!!!

Who is willing to bet there will be some hot weapon showing up in Crimea? Maybe Russia would also like to show some of the "Mother Bear" power.

Beside, Yanukovich is just a pawn like dozens of the another. Replaceable.

Russia isn't "putting anyone back in power". Russia is restoring constitutional order. Yanukovich was chosen by the country's majority's vote. Thus he is the legitimate president of Ukraine until the next (constitutional) elections. The filth that was found about him sure is dirty and stuff, but that doesn't de-legitimise him. It simply makes him unpopular. And if he is unpopular he won't get elected during the next (again, constitutional) elections, which should have been in 2015 but were moved to December 2014.

And what's going to happen when he decided to stay in power in order to avoid being prosecuted? You think he would tell the Russians to go home and let himself be arrested? No, he would just tell the Russians to stay. He remembered what he did to Timoshenko, if Russian put him back in power then his only option is to turn Ukraine into a Russian Vassal state. That's the only way for him to avoid being Timoshenko'ed.

And since Putin clear agreed to whatever he requested as the troops have been sent, that means it is already settled. The Russian troops are staying.

1. To this moment it is unclear how Ukraine's future, as a country, will evolve. There's a possibility Ukraine's territory might be split in half, since the west and east is so different from each other. But for now both RF and Yanukovich are saying Ukraine's territorial integrity is not being put under question (with the exception of Crimea)
2. Russia doesn't really care who's the president of Ukraine, since frankly speaking, they're all idiots
When Ukraine left the Soviet Union, economically, militarily and politically it was the strongest post-soviet republic in eastern Europe. It took them only 20 years of independence to turn into a country with the worst standards of living and no economy. That's why some today consider Ukraine more like a "failed project" than an actual nation.
3. Russia's main interests in Ukraine are: stability and economic ties.
