Unless you belong to a really huge extended family, which is rare even for the Chinese today, it seldom gets as complicated as that. Where cousins are concerned, the key thing to remember is that 堂 ("tang") cousins are typically from the patrilineal branches of the family and, traditionally, they were ones that mattered when it came to inheritances.

Well, if my eyes are still working the right way, onii-chan doesn't look asian at all. So maybe, the little imouto was just curious after too much hentai and decided to ask the first stranger she meets.
