Huh, didn't see that coming. Wonder if it's an original series or an adaptation of Legend of Mana?

Probably going to be hit or miss unless you're a mana series fan.

Legend of Mana itself doesn't have a wholly coherent storyline compared to the other Mana games.

It has "Teardrop Crystal" in the title.
Pretty obvious on what the anime is going to be about.

You have basically 3 main "plot lines" which are several quests of a continuing storyline, and a bunch of unrelated one off quests featuring the various residents of the world.

As for an anime of the game, it could adapt one or a combination of the three main quests lines and sprinkle in related quests that help the narrative. It should be doable enough I think.

Well in LoM you could in theory even complete the final boss without finishing any of the plot lines.

If I recall correctly you have to complete at least one of the three main story lines to trigger the ability to start the end quest to finish the game. As the NPC to start that quest won't show up unless you do.

^ While I can't read the Japanese in the link, I could see that the year mentioned in the tweet was 2022, not 2023. So that's what I updated the release date to.

Um... is this likely to turn into something super-ecchi? Being fantasy, we might get the infamous "breastplate" deal again.

At least, that's based on the director's previous works of Super HxEros and Azur Lane. Can't say what directing the Ilya spinoff means.

^Interesting, the anime might go for some kind of co-protagonist route featuring both male and female avatars in the same story.

It reminds me of how the Granblue Fantasy anime was originally planned to have its male + female avatars as co-protags, but the head producers at Cygames insisted in having the male avatar as the main lead leaving the female avatar for sidestory content.
