First episode was standard Adachi. Nothing particularly stood out, other than the fact it takes place in the same city/school as Touch thirty years later. Ok, I guess that's enough to make it stand out. It looks like they're even living in Tatsuya's old house since they found his uniform.

Ahh, this story is really good. I would love to talk to someone about it, as it's actually my favorite Adachi work so far. It really builds upon everything he is known for and it has the best characterization in my opinion.

Ah, Adachi. I've only seen Cross Game where I was taken in by that weird mix of compelling characters with derpy character designs and it looks like we'll be getting the same mix here. Early impressions are early but we don't have the same hook with Mix that we did with Cross Game. I still remember that first episode of Cross Game being punch to the gut and that worked well as a hook. So far we don't have one here yet but I'm sure we'll get something soon.

Also gotta say that I'm glad I discovered I could change the speed in my video player. Ten years ago, I had the time and patience for a series like this but I sure as hell don't now. I bumped the speed up to 1.2x speed and still thought it was slow. Might bump it up even higher next time. XP

Cross Game is the only Adachi series I've followed from beginning to end. (I've watched a few eps of the French version of Touch, but couldn't really get into it.)

I rather hope nobody will die in this one.

I'm also probably more disturbed than I should be by how the characters look like the ones in other Adachi series.

I made note of it in my review, but Cross Game is pretty unique in the Adachi oeuvre in having an intro that's immediately riveting - maybe the best first episode in anime, or close. Mix is more his usual slow-build style.

Maybe I should've rewatched Touch in the end.

Here we have typical Adachi start. Y was suprised by how young they are, so I guess we are bound to a early timeskip probably.

A mistery uniform.. assuming they don't share father, maybe is the deceased one? (I expect Touma being one of the parents' children only)
I guess we can rule out Touma and Sou being blood brothers, and knowing Adachi, I guess Otomi is Sou sister, but I'm really curious about the uniform.
The other girl in the opening hasn't made his debut yet, maybe the Akane of the story?

Okay Funi, you're very weird. Giving MIX a REAL simultaneous dub, but I can't find it in the search results in my PS4 or PC. I'm very confused - if it warrants the resources for same day dub, then why is it so hard to find it? XD

And LOL 5toubun's Raiha as English Otomi. It's quirky at first hearing, but I'm digging it MUCH more than Uchida's (who I'm really mixing up with the narrator as they sound alike). We'll see if I will change back to JP once HanaKana comes around.

As for Adachi killing off people, well, AFAIK he only killed a major character mid-series twice. Which actually puts the 'pseudo-incest' theme as common to it (Miyuki and Jinbe), but no one bats an eye to that one for some reason, when this is obviously heading towards that as well. XD

Overall, the pacing is way more old school. Hell, the 'touma going on a date is so like him' comment, then Otomi and Sou silently staring at each other being implied as a 'stay at home date' is pretty much trademark Adachi. So yeah, despite them cutting out a lot of c3, I say two thumbs up and still my favourite of the cour!

Touch has a slow start, but boy is the pay off great. To me, it features one of the most emotional episode in all of anime, which I believe was actually removed from the French version.

Man I completely love this OP. I typically skip most OPs, but this is one I can seen myself going through with every episode. I also loved all the OPs of Cross Game, but Summer Rain was probably my favorite.

And as others have stated, this is clearly the type of story that you'll need to commit too to get the best out of it all, just like the rest of its pedigree. If you're in, you're in for the long haul.
