its pretty pointless the guy can break out on a whim, might as well as indulge him a bit since he is such a "willing" prisoner. besides Ryner's got a friend in a very high place so some leniency is to be expected. but its no where near as lax as Lt.face's prison cell from the A-team movie.

War is just another way of saying highway robbery in a bigger scale. You have just to look at our own history. Nazi Germany wanted the rest of Europe for food security, slave labor and other resources like oil. Imperial Japan wanted territory to fuel their empire. Heck even the USA did it back at 1898 with the Philippines.

I agree with this and seikai ga houkai suru no bijin (you know it's true!) is much lol.
The sound effects and the music composition during the whole fighting scene is very, very smooth as usual; makes me feel like I'm actually playing a RPG and in the middle of the boss fight with the sound effects, but also enough actual music (especially that string piece near the end of the whole sequence) to distinguish from a game. I really enjoy the acoustics of this series, and the visuals aren't slacking either. The fight scene (while really short) has decent choreography (believable combat movements and congruent hair locations in between frame switches etc.) and simple but crisp camera angles. All in all was great watch. Nice to know that Ryner's stronger than Ferris. I just realized what Mizuno guessed about Ferris is 100% dead on. Kudos~~ |

I'd give episode 4 a 10/10. Rarely do you see fantasy series done so well with well-painted background for its characters. The first part of the episode with Ryner in the cell didn't drag. Though it took the entire first half, the pace felt reasonable. The execution of the humour at the end of the episode balances well with the daunting task ahead of Ryner and Sion. Ferris... strangely though, I didn't find her serious reaction to Sion's suggestion of "crushing the dango shop" incompatible and out of place. That probably is evident of how well her character's been portrayed. The music is well suited to each different scene.
On top of that all is the monologue that wraps up the episode. Putting too much voiced out loud internal thoughts can be off-putting but Ryner's thought is very appropriate to close the episode and open another chapter of his life. It reminds me of the internal monologue used in Eureka Seven. It definitely adds something positive and unique to the series. My hope for this series is steadily rising. I hope they don't butcher the series halfway through! Judging by the quality of the storytelling, this series wouldn't be too bad if they follow the novels (assuming this is how it's told in the novels).
