They grew there when it landed in the field. The full video shows them spreading across the frame and over the wings.

It landed and grew flowers, from what little we saw of it before it grew the flowers, it looked fairly normal. There is a screenshot that shows it's partial legs that showcases this, maybe somebody can repost the link?

In other words, it's not a flower MS. Just a MS that can replicate things on it's surface and it just did it with the flowers some time after it landed.

And I do believe the manga showed the full ELS-00Qan[T] itself, clearly showing no flowers on it, IIRC.
