Intelligence official offers new timeline for Benghazi attack

Quote:
A senior U.S. intelligence official discounted a Fox News report from last Friday that said officials within the CIA chain of command denied repeated requests from its officers on the ground to assist during the attack on the U.S. mission in Benghazi, Libya.

The official insisted that the CIA operators on the ground were in charge of their movements and the safety of those who were preparing to respond was also an important consideration.

Apparently, Fox News couldn't be bothered to cover much of the hurrican in their frenzy to make a mountain out of molehole.

Just thinking back to all the similar attacks under GOP administrations that Fox just skipped over. Bzzzzt.

"It's 5 days till election time; who cares if there are a few dozen people dead and many more homeless or without basic necessities, such as food and water, after a big storm passed overhead? This 'news' could have a negative impact on Obama's campaign, and might give Romney the push he needs to win. To us at FOX News, that's more important.

Besides, there are lots of other news stations reporting on stuff like that, so it's only fair that we stick to the 'real' news that is out there, right?"

Second stealth jet puts China on path to top regional power: expert

Nothing much to comment on the article itself. But I went to the Chinese military forum where the photos come from, and there is a very interesting exchange there.

"Did they (referring to all the news sources) pay any money for the copy right of the images?" Asked one guy mockingly since everybody knows that it is not going to happen.

"Does the photo shooter dare to claim that those photos are his?" Retorted another.

Greek journalist acquitted in Swiss accounts scandal
http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/...8A01DG20121101
Quote:
A Greek journalist who published the names of more than 2,000 of his compatriots who held Swiss bank accounts was acquitted on Thursday in a case that touched a nerve over the role of tax evasion in the country's debt crisis.

The trial of Costas Vaxevanis, editor of the weekly Hot Doc magazine, had aroused international concern and intense interest among Greeks hit by the impact of the country's economic collapse and angry at the privileges of the elite.

Today's New York Times carries an informative analysis of factional conflict at the top of the Chinese Communist Party as we head toward next week's Party Congress. At issue is the proposal to reduce the number of seats on the Politburo Standing Committee from nine to seven. Since the Committee operates by consensus, having fewer members may enable it to be more decisive. But a smaller committee also puts more power in the hands of the remaining members and reduces the opportunity to pay off factions within the Party by giving them a seat.

Bank of Montreal network is down. No one can log into their Online banking, or purchase anything with their BMO credit card or debit card.

This is huge! The things you get screwed over for when you're expecting to pay for something and the card reader tells you no connection.

Good thing I'm not doing anything today. I have vacation plans coming up that require a lot of credit card usage. This could be down for who knows how long.

Fear and loathing in Athens: the rise of Golden Dawn and the far right

It is the Guardian after all so I'm not too sure if I should take it at face value but it sounds like someone's talking about the 1930's Germany or Italy which is a scary thought. Any Greeks still around to chime in?

Eh, he made the mistake of using "major record label artists" in his videos. Any more, one should check who the rights owner is (meaning the label publisher, not the artist who is getting screwed by them along with the consumer) and see what their behavior is on copyright issues.

For the same reason it would be utterly lame for you to be buried in Seattle local news. Its local news. It irritates me when national corporate media spread one local story across the continent because its flipping cheaper than actually doing their job (whether its a shooting or an automobile accident or a puppy up a tree).

The new copywrong law there is up now, and yeah, it sadly illustrates the reality that Japan's rather insular entertainment companies are continually creating a cultural vacuum that has now been taken over by Koreans.

Being a fan of a popular pop group can be a double-edged sword: sure they love them and thus they buy the records for a voting ticket, but with the new law fans sometimes risk being arrested by posting fan videos just to show their devotion and for trying to get the word out to the rest of the world.

In this guy's case, he really tries to push the envelope and reasoning that he wanted to be popular. Damn, he should've known better.

Also, given the low crime rate, well, as always the local cops are trying to look for anything they could get their hands on, even petty crimes; thus bribery and tax evasion cases resemble like war epics where cops and investigators come inside a tax evader's house as a big posse.

RIP Marty — the Inspiration for Nyan Cat

Quote:
Marty, the cat which inspired the 8-bit rainbow meme Nyan Cat, passed away Thursday, leaving many heavy hearts in the Internet world.

Nearly 3 years old, the cat was diagnosed with Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP), a fatal, incurable disease. Marty’s owner, and Nyan Cat creator, Chris Torres adopted Marty in 2010 — along with another cat, Buster, who died of FIP soon afterwards.

Hospitals forced to use cattle MRI scanners for obese patients
Quote:
Many hospitals have failed to invest in 'supersize’ equipment suited to morbidly obese patients, they said.

Investigations by surgeons at North Bristol NHS Trust found only one in six hospitals had access to MRI or CT scanners capable of taking the heaviest patients, weighing over 35 stone.

As an emergency measure, they will need to rely on scanners usually operated by vets as Britain’s obesity crisis means dealing with severely overweight patients becomes more routine.

Hospitals in the US are already calling zoos to use their scanners - built for lions, gorillas, horses and cattle.

Quote:
Nine people have each been told to pay £624 to a woman raped by footballer Ched Evans after they admitted naming her on Twitter and Facebook.

The former Sheffield United and Wales striker was jailed for five years in April for raping the 19-year-old.

Seven men and three women, aged between 18 and 27 and from north Wales and Sheffield have been accused of revealing the victim's identity.
