I've changed it some times, still I prefer an obscure avatar that people might remember me by.

No, I have pretty much dropped this practice now. I like my Valky set waaay too much to change her (at least permanently) I will change to a Horo set soon, but return to my Valky eventually.

Oh and lucky me, I skipped the vote in the past, so now I can pick my current avie practice.

I change my avatar randomly. I just sign on one day and say, 'I think I'll change my avatar today!' and go on from there. My signature would also likely change to accommodate the new avatar.

It usually depends. I really love cute sweet avatars. I have never been a fan of using just words as an avatar. I stick to my avatars probably for a month. And I usually have a theme so I have an avatar that goes well with my signature.

I change my avatar every three months or so, mainly because I'm too lazy to keep making them and I don't want to just steal someone's picture and use it. Also too much rapid change is bad.

Did someone say they were the only guy without an anime avatar? ha.

And it's the same as it is now, only back then I think I at least cycled avatars at least once a year - this one has been at least a year (maybe two?) and counting...

I change it if get bored of it. That's normally after a week.
The real good ones I use a little longer than that.

I'd say 3-6 months or when I find something I like which is extremely rare.

I used to change my avatar quite often, usually whenever I felt like it. That could have been thrice in the same week or so. That was back when I didn't have matching signatures and didn't care if my avatar and sig were the same on every board.

Now I change my avatar (and signature) about once a month or so. I also make sure that the same set is being used on all boards that I'm active at. I don't know why, I just like everything to match now. I started doing this almost 2 years ago. ^^;
