I've only read it on and off in Afternoon pages, but I've always been curious about it, was on my "eventually pick up the books" list.
I love traditional sci-fi space epics, they are so rare nowadays.

You don't really read any of Nihei stuff for the character designs though (at least not for me). His works are almost always praised for the moody violence, the vast, sky-scrapper architectures, the work on the frames, and the immense, sprawling landscape.

It's funny you say that, considering that the manga has a justification for it.

But yeah, it gets a bit confusing at times.

I'm really really surprised to see this getting animated though. Glad, but surprised. From the small bits I've read, it's a very interesting story/setting. It's pretty gritty sci-fi.

I read the synopsis and I could say the story is almost filled with old-school vibes, I'll give it a try, but if a studio specialized for sci-fi flicks like Sunrise or Production I.G gets their hand, even better!

He could've at least given them unique hairstyles, but the only major difference between some characters is the style of their bangs. It really kills the emotional impact when I have to spend five minutes flipping through the pages to figure out who just died.

His art isn't anywhere as awesome and distinctive as it used to be. Only the mechs are nice. Shouldn't be too hard to adapt.

I also don't think it's as distinctive as his art in Abara (which is my favorite) and Blame but it does have a lot of impressive stills though which might be hard to animate (the organic look of the gauna for one). But that's neither here nor there. I just want a good budget and staff!

Yes. It's from Polygon Pictures, the studio that made Transformers: Prime and Tron: Uprising.

This strikes me as ironic. The manga art struck me as a little dull. I'm not trying to be critical, but there was little room for my imagination. NOw the anime is going to get exciting CG.

What is this trend? Is Golden Age of CG comming? (Not sure if I am completely happy about).

As I see it I will watch first two episodes than start read manga, then drop anime cause go through same story twice in at once is waste of time.
