I'm just glad that a lot of new series look exciting to me these days. If we're going to continue to live in the era of most shows being set in schools I at least like that creators are trying to add some zest and flair to it. I've never been a huge fan of "school anime" thing that really took off towards the end of the 2000's but it was less the setting and more the focus I had been having issues with.

Also I think that scan settles the issue of whether rival is a man or not. I've gotta say I already like her overall design the best with the military uniform, sword, pseudo hime cut and severest of frowns. Chick looks dangerous which is how I like em'. I sense an inevitable team up somehow however thing goes.

I haven't watch Little Witch Academia, but having young animators on board's always fun, because the willing ones are always more ambitious.

Here's the scene mentioned (nicoviewer)

I was interested in this, but most of the track record of the staff makes me skeptical (despite critical acclaim, I think most of the works weren't good, at all). I'll wait and see, I guess.

Just to recap some stuff I'm reading on twitter:

-While it's a high school setting this isn't your average modern highschool but one located in a post apocalyptic world (see scans)
-This isn't an all female cast show, there will be male characters.
-Young animators who worked on little witch academia will also be among the animators working on this
-There will be lots of hand to hand combat

For a whole lot more info, here's a translated interview

I find this part hilarious:

Quote:
Q: So while it took time, did the script-writing progress well?
N: Not at all. After we'd decided on a 2-cour series, I submitted the script for Episodes 1-4 … and Imaishi said "THIS ISN'T THE KIND OF WORK I WANT TO DO!" and ripped it apart.
Q: This sounds familiar. Did that happen during TTGL, too?
N: During the show (leo). Six years ago, Imaishi ripped up the finished script for Episode 1 while screaming "The drill in my heart won't spin with shit like this!"
I: Did I really say that? It's like my words are getting blown out of proportion (lel)
N: This time, it ended up with "I can't wear sailor uniforms with this kind of story!" while ripping up 4 episodes' worth of script.
I: EHH~? Does that mean I have to wear a sailor uniform if I OK'd the script?

I look forward to this. Glad it sounds closer in spirit to Gurren Lagann than Panty and Stocking.

The scans look great and I love the designs. It seems like Medaka Box, but with everything I didn't like about that series either stripped out or changed completely. I'll definitely keep tabs on this.

Looks like there were more translations for the interviews:

Now I don't have to translate anything!

This looks interesting. Should I expect more brutal or flashy battles?

It doesn't follow that 'longsword' has to be held with two hands, that only really applies to the zweihaender which literally means 'two-hander'.

Most of the definitions I can find specifically say "suited for two-handed combat", with one-handed use coming after a "but". And the pictures I can find don't have a single curved guard on the hilt, unlike the picture of the character here.

I'm not going to say anything about swords in fiction like here, they're really free to do anything they want.

But I start geeking-out when someone mentions definition of longswords, etc.

Sorry this was my mistake. Earlier on before there were clear scans, the roles of the characters weren't specifically clear. The weapon in question actually belongs to Ryuuko, and she is the transfer student. Satsuki is the president of the school's student council. Ryuuko's weapon is half of a giant scissors-sword as seen in the key visual.

Edit: I've corrected the first post, adding the scans and interview translations as well.

yuri undertones always fit, for soemthing that might be similar see ga-rei zero.
