no matter how I view it, the rail gun is the biggest problem in scwarzer regen. It feels awkward, but at the same time, it has been shown to be an effective weapon for the IS and Laura.

That could be justified with I.S. has stronger material quality. Of course, I still view the usage of shell and initial charge is redundant.

And that's not counting the sheer handwaving and technobabble required for AIC.

No, I meant design-wise. The whole machine is made for CQC, you can just tell from how Laura was handling it as she tore Shenlong and Blue Tears apart. The rail gun just feels like baggage even though it's included in the preset. I'm pretty sure she keeps it "stored" or something but I'm not sure. It almost feels like it's this huge lug of metal just trailing after Laura.

If she keep a machinegun turret or something like that, it would be better, but she's packing an artillery.

All I'm saying is that it's huge and doesn't seem to make sense being put onto an agile CQC unit. I first assumed it to be a bazooka version of Blue Tears but Schwarzer Regen really stands out to me as a melee IS now. I'm wondering if it'd even make sense to make improvements or add onto the number of railguns :|

Hence why I said it's an artillery, which pretty much requiring Laura to stop. If it's a rifle, shotgun, or machinegun she can fire it on the move, but it's a rail gun, and relative large and powerful at that (for an I.S. anyway).

But no matter what, as long as it works, then nobody should complain. Except die-hard real robot fans.

Is it possible to use an IS weapon without using the unit itself?

In Sacred Twins: Possible

In canon: Possible

Though I believe there will be severe limitation about it. Especially the recoil issue in case of firearms (Natasha had to fire the gospel weapon at semi automatic rate)

You know, I think I saw someone fire a rail gun bare handed.....in a video game, of course.

There's no freaking way someone can fire it, even Schwarzer Regen has a problem with it. This is not Guren Lagann.

the size of Scwarzer Regen's railgun differs from picture to picture I use as reference... I'm going to irrationally blame the animators now...

Believe or not, the novel version is larger and longer, the anime version is only 1.5 meter long and several inch wide.

@_@ seriously, now I don't how the heck to upgrade that gun anymore or if it'd be a stupid move to add another one.

@ Senpai - The one they fired was about the size of a motorcycle It charged up electromagnetic bolts before firing. Surprisingly, there was barely any recoil.

What game is that again? I myself once made an experimental version in high school with a lot of batteries and iron rail, it spit 150 m/s projectile and still kick like donkey.

Metal gear Surprisingly enough, it prides itself on trying to make details realistic, so it's most likely not BSing. They did say it was some kind of experimental test weapon, though.

Keep in mind though that there's another concept where Railgun is used to fire plasma instead. It was intended to trigger fusion reaction, likely has not much recoil (though eats a lot of energy).

Side note - realistic? Please ask Mr. Raven and his vulcan cannon.

Super soldiers that can do what unrealistic thing exactly? They can't see even ten feet in front of them Also, I meant most of the tech is meant to be realistic. Metal Gear Rex was made on real robot concepts. The world itself is also realistic by showing how a war economy would destroy the world.

@ Senpai - What's wrong with the vulcan cannon?
