Not going to claim this is some kind of new milestone in anime but it is thoroughly servicing a bit of the day for 'nostalgia for things that never were'.

As for the specific price of ~$5000? Well, that is one hell of a case for generosity...If you look on eBay right now, the most expensive Gibson SG you can find is a 1972 Gibson SG Standard, going for an asking price of $3999.99; 0 bids with 20.5 hours left, of course...But there's a reason why the Gibson SG in this episode was so willingly bought for such an extraordinary price at the drop of a hat: That Gibson SG came in contact with Sawako's luscious skin SOLD! Entertaining episode, none-the-less...Tsumugi gets points for looking so cute, going through the supermarket like a rich kid in an everyman's candy store...Eye candy bonus for ponytail Mio, if only for a short period...And Yui's own little money BDSM? That's, that's, that's... ...that's something that Tsumugi might enjoy doing... :s

This week on K-ON!!
- Yui loves being spanked with money (and just when you thought she couldn't get any kinkier stranger. Oh yeah, and her fantasy involves Ui. I'll let you chew on that for awhile.) - Mugi fires her Salvadoran silverware polishers after discovering Brasso! - Ritsu adds more fiber to her diet! - Sawako shows how she once stopped World War 3 simply by taking off her glasses! - Azusa is now the sempai of . . . a teenage mutant ninja turtle! - Kyon Mugi's Music Store slave overpays for a vintage guitar! This week continues in the same vein as last week. Animation and art quality are still high, the comedy is still light, but K-ON!! ventures into (practically) unknown territory with an ongoing theme. And that theme is the pending graduation of 80% of the Afternoon Tea Time band. Again, we're reminded that Azusa desires to be the sempai of some fresh-faced n00b. For that matter, she would like some n00bs, period. Her bandmates, who (for some bizarre reason . . . I blame it on the money-slapping) decided to listen to Yui, and bought Azusa a turtle to help with this. I guess it's the thought that counts. In other news, Ritsu features prominently in this episode. Which almost makes up for Yui. Almost. Post-episode followup: The Good: - Ritsu, for comedy! - Azusa, for depth! - Sawako, for the Evil Glare of Doom! (Please don't hurt me, miss, I beg you . . . ) The Bad: - Yui, for abysmal taste in cheap crap! - Mugi, the Salvadoran silverware polisher's union would like to have a word with you! The . . . Whiskey Tango Foxtrot . . . - Yui . . . you've got some weird fetishes, girl. Final score for this episode: 8 slaps across the face with a wad of cash out of 10.

I'm also enjoying the way they have taken 4-koma strips from different parts of the chapters and respliced them so they can get more gags from the manga into the episodes. Sometimes they'd seem to skip something I was hoping to see... only to find the gag placed somewhere that made sense in a lengthier segment.
I bet the storyboarding sessions were fun with pieces of strips taped all over the Big Board.
