I don't think that wanting to be a hero and stop criminals is just a "geeky desire". I'm sure plenty of non-geeks find the idea appealing as well.

Wien stopped an actual criminal. A pretty low-grade criminal, yeah, but still a real one. And in the process of stopping that criminal, he did have some pretty GAR moments (he took a couple hard hits like a total boss).

That's a lot different than Yuuta beating up on some random classmate or somebody who's playing make-believe with him, imo.

That whole scene was something I couldn't really take all that seriously anyway so yeah. It really did just seem to me like they were pandering to the geek in all of us rather than something actually serious. I suppose the idea was that being geeky can be cool too but I wouldn't go as far to say that it's Gar.

But maybe it was the singing that ruined it...

When I think about it, I don't think I've seen too many explanations here about the origin of the idiosyncratic naming within the anime, both with respect to the title and the names. The answer is quite curious, and reflects on the nature of the anime. Tari Tari approximates to 'this and that' in English, and the episodes all have the convention of 'doing this and that' in their naming. I found that to be a rather curious, if not outright cool factor about Tari Tari

A friend of mine who I got to watch the series also suggested the somewhat more nonsensical "Ing Ing" as a translation.

I wouldn't quite say it's nonsensical, but it's a little more vague. I think he's also referring to "Doing this and doing that". If we let "-ing" be the suffix, and the prefix be some verb, then it totally makes sense The anime is quite reflective of the title, depicting the characters doing a little of everything, ranging from music to horseback riding to being Super Sentais.

Oh that's me!

Um well... I finished the series earlier this evening. To be honest, coming from the tokusatsu fandom, I adored Wien. I absolutely loved everything he did and said, mostly because it was so passionate and inspired. But that's not to say I didn't like the other characters. I did enjoy Konatsu's mischievous (yet extremely persistent) personality to be a hoot, and each of the choir (and sometimes badminton) club did have something to bring to the table (even if Taichi kind of struggled finding to do something in the last part of the show, he still came through by roping others into helping with the festivities).

We already have one on the way. Though it's Mari Okada on script so she going to either channel her Unlimited Troll Works (as shown by Black Rock Shooter, Aquarion EVOL and AKB0048) or the elements that brought her to fame in the first place (True Tears, Toradora, Anohana, Hanasaku Iroha). Hoping it's the latter...

And based of PV pics, seems like a SoL/drama. PA Works building up a reputation for its anime original SoL/dramas . They seem to rotate between SoL/drama and a non-SoL/drama if you have a close look, though frankly their non-SoL/dramas aren't very good . But hey, at least they try unlike a certain studio that PA seems get a lot of flak for apparently "copying". Though I give credit to that studio since the show prior to what's airing now was excellent and I put it on par with Tari Tari.

That's the other thing I forgot to mention. I think one of the strengths of Tari Tari is that few of the characters fall into the typical archetypes (The tsundere, the wingman, the childhood friend etc) and even those that do are not overtly so.
Yeah, I'm with you on this - Wien = GAR isn't a sentence I'd utter. He's moe, if anything.

GAR is a matter of the soul and spirit! But yea, I guess Wien would need more to reach garmoedom. Perhaps he could start crying like Kaiji.

Though as of PA's outings, the GAR award still goes to Ohana.

Not sure if anyone's shared this one yet, but here's a cool image I found. It's got a Makoto Shinkai feel to it, but that could simply be the fact that it's a rail crossing

The video quality is admittedly pretty low (that's what Windows Movie Maker and YouTube will do to you ), but I hope people here will find this amusing at least.

Without a doubt, 0:35 is the best from Triple R's video.

In other news, I really liked Wakana's outfit in the last performance, for whatever reason I can't get enough of it.

Dextro, Julio C, Archon_Wing, and those who complimented me privately... Thanks for the kind words!

I'm actually kind of shocked that this mash-up wasn't done sooner, and figured that if nobody else was going to do it, I might as well do the best I could with it. Especially since I've been missing this show, and Hyouka, a fair bit lately.
