Uiharu's power is that she can keep things she touches at a constant temperature she chooses as told in episode 22.

Uiharu's power is only marginally more stupid than Suou's Contractor ability.

Seriously, guys, what's wrong with giving cool characters cool powers? Uiharu was one of the best characters in the whole series (except for the last few episodes) and she gets shafted with this weak-ass power.

Toaru Kagaku no Railgun strives for realism. Just like Xellos said, not everyone has the powers to be awesome every time unlike a certain someone with a luck-dispelling right hand.

why does everyone think that touma's power are awesome.... yeah its awesome but the range is too limited and all. The one who is awesome is touma himself.

As for Uiharu I think her power is great and complement herself. Maybe it can also melt the coldness of someone's heart. With her joyfull attitude. It suits her well.

Plus some people here in the forum thinks her power to control enthropy is ubber hax than accel and touma but I can't understand their basis.

The one that I think is awesome is accelerator or kakine.

I was expecting Uiharu to have a more mundane power than Misaka's Shock and Awe, but I was sort of expecting it to also be, uh... actually useful, and fit with her character.

I would have expected her to have a non-combat ability like Mii Konori's power, but focused on computers. Perhaps a The Third-alike ability, a sort of mechanical telepathy.

But truth be told, Uiharu is a Level 1. Her temperature control ability could possibly be devastating if she was a Level 3 or above. Mmm, melty.

After she herself claimed it was useless when she first joined the cast?

Besides it does fit. It enables her to overclock her computer massively and do hot food runs.

Which is kinda ironic since as I recall she never gets a chance to finish her sweets on screen.

That streak was broken in Railgun anime. I don't know when, but I know Uiharu has managed to eat her sweets somewhere.

This is what I assumed. If Uiharu ever develops her power to level 3, she might be able to change the temperature of whatever she touches a certain amount. By level 5, she'd be nearly as dangerous as Biribiri.

the problem will be the range. Biribiri is one of the longest if not the longest fire artillery in school academy. Though the control of temperature is dangerous if she could melt it or freeze it.

you fail to recognize how amazing the power to keep stuff at the same temperature is
If I had her power I could overclock my stupid dual core to 10GHz or something like that because it would remain about 22'C no matter what.
Maybe a higher level she might be able to change temperature of stuff, not just keep it the same. Even with just increased range, she can stop guns from firing because no heat==no fire==no explosion in barrel==no bullet flying out.

but uiharu is close range or in need of touch and even if in higher level. That kind of ability probably still needs touch like kongou mitsuko a level 4 air touch. Then if she's stoping a gun to fire then she needs to touch it.

I think she would be more so. Think about it. Her power allows her to say screw you to the laws of thermodynamics.
