So given the nature of the show, and the natural inclinations of its fanbase, you're going to see the term bandied about a lot, both within the show itself and in discussions of it. If that bothers you to the point where you're not enjoying yourself, perhaps you might want to fight another show to watch. |

Nope, I'm a woman and I didn't find it insulting, especially since I know the context behind it. It's pretty much THE running joke in the series, as the Demon Lord is pretty sensitive about not being attractive (something that the Head Maid keeps on picking on).
So yes, bring on the useless meat!

Crude jokes aside, the Demon King's obsession with her chest is another example of the same thing I was mentioning a few pages back, which is how the book's original format (All dialogue, no descriptive text, which I saw Wiki today describe as a "Play" format) influences the character's personalities. With no visual clues whatosever as to what these people look like or what they're doing, you have less ways of including a lot of elements that are trivial in a different format.
For instance, including any kind of fanservice, which is especially critical in a story that would otherwise be rather tedious. (Imagine 24 straight minutes spent on charts and graphs showing the effect of the war.) The author can't show us what a character looks like, or what they're doing. The only way we can know is through the reactions of the characters, and so those reactions have to be exaggerated or we'll simply miss them. You can see this exaggeration in a lot of elements in the book, like the magic (Spells are ten random kanji jammed together, and the more kanji the more powerful the spell), the combat (Fights are hugely exaggerated, with some of them taking place over miles and miles of territory, with fireballs 50 feet wide and characters flying around while brandishing legendary weapons.) I never really felt that the manga version I read got across the sense of scale I felt in the original work. I know there are other versions, and I haven't checked them out, but that was one reason I was really looking forward to the anime adaptation. I think an anime is a better medium than manga for doing really big things, like Legend of Galactic Heroes and its fights between tens of thousands of ships. I'm not expecting the fights to match SAO, but I'm hoping that the anime version will be given the kind of budget it needs to match this sense of scale in terms of the whole story. If nothing else, it certainly has with the Demon King. |

Watching this without any prior knowledge of the novels.
So far it's okay, I guess. It really depends on which route the anime will take. One thing that bothers me is the constant comparison between MaoYuu and Spice&Wolf. I know it's inevitable due to the voice actors but... for me Holo & Lawrence are one of the best couples in all fiction, period. They don't instantly fall in love with each other. Their feelings develop over of the course of many adventures, through intelligent dialogue and getting to know each other better and better. In this anime instead, we have the Demon "King" who is already in love with the Hero for no discernable reason, while the Hero acts like a prude middle-schooler. If you guys think that this is a good romance, I will lose my faith in humanity.

This anime has 11 more episodes. Shouldn't you wait until the story get unfold. I'm not going to say anything more than this because this is not LN or manga thread. |

For my part honestly, no I'm all for the show don't tell rule when romance is concerned. I prefer to see how instead to be told why. In my opinion they decided to give this kind of settings to focus (or because the focus is) on the other aspects of the show. I share the same doubts of Gohan78 on the matter, but I'll be glad to be proven wrong if that's the case.

I translated the second frame of "The Obscure Troubadour's Song" in the ending animation, and yes, THERE ARE SPOILERS HERE.
Seeing as it keeps going in this vein with endless, huge walls of text, I wouldn't be surprised if there's major spoilerage for the entire season. EDIT: Corrected one word per RW's suggestion. I'm translating the next frame now, and it continues on with the spoilers, as expected. It goes on for 4-5 frames, with the last frame(s) scrolling through a humungeous wall of text, so I'm thinking there's enough spoilage for two cours.

And yes, that looks spoilery. I read spoilers because that's just what I do, and I've actually already looked up a bunch of spoilers thanks to the TVTropes pages about this series. The rest of you all who don't already know this stuff probably should not look at that image.
