Is Aichi ever going to win against anyone besides fodder? It is getting a little tedious to watch him, the protagonist, lose over and over again.

Vanguard is taking a very different direction here. If Aichi won every game from the start, there would be no tension and we wouldn't worry about whether he'll win or lose. It's because he's shown to be so fallible that his fights are ambiguous, so when Aichi finally does win it shows a great deal of development on his part.

I think we can expect Aichi's victories to pick up now that the regional tournament is going underway, because he can't stay in the tournament if he doesn't win.

I loved the anime but hey ... I prefer Aichi to lose more times than he win from the start.

But, it's a team tournament.

As long as Kamui, Misaki, and Kai win (or it's 2-2, depending on the tournament's rules), Aichi can lose every time!

Actually since we don't know how the tournament will be structured, it's still up in the air.

(Which makes me wonder how they'll contrive to have Aichi in it... Have Kai join another team?)

Oh, right... Maybe they mentioned that there's 3 people teams + one backup... Anyway, we'll find out soon enough.

I wonder, where exactly are the ratings for these shows? Now with Yugioh's response to VG out, I want to see how they are doing against each other.

I like the format so far, it’s enjoyable to watch. Even though it’s nothing spectacular I feel the urge to tune in each week to check and see if Aichi wins. If you want a steamroller just think of Kai as main character.

That’s how the manager explained it. Probably Kai will leave the team at one point, since if he doesn’t Aichi won’t ever be able to have his fight with him.

I agree with you its annoying watch another episode with Aichi losing again.. i mean i know this is not Yu-Gi-Oh but they could make him win more often.. as of now i think the "back up" in the team would be him since he is the weakest...

It would absolutely make sense if Aichi ends up as the backup. If he does not, then there is some serious writing issues with the show. I don't mind losses, but seriously, it needs to be considerably less.

There is a reason why we don't see Kai to often. His personality is dark and mysterious, and for this type of series, they would never have a dark, gloomy person be the lead. Still, if Aichi wins more often, it would be a little more exciting.

So far, his only victories are against people from his school. That is strange in its own way, however. He needs to win once in a while with someone that matters, to keep us off guard. As of now, the pattern is so predictable, it wears on you.

If Nagisa is part of Team Handsome, then all the teams we've seen so far are four-person teams. The back-ups are most likely for if someone becomes ill or is otherwise incapacitated, she could be Handsome's back-up.

Even if Aichi isn't necessarily required to win, I doubt that Kai would just let him keep playing at the level he is. Being surrounded by four incredibly talented players will probably do a lot for how he plays.

Actually, this would be a good opportunity for Aichi to learn. So far we haven't seen a Kamui-Misaki matchup, so skill-wise the current standing is Kai>Misaki, Kamui>Aichi. Misaki has access to a lot of Vanguard merchandise she could sell Aichi, Kamui could practice with him, and Kai can resume teaching.
(But of course, Kai would never be caught dead associating himself with a blatantly weaker player, so he'll do it all under the guise of PROFESSOR CARDFIGHT for a filler ep. Or hire a ninja)

With regards to the Milky Holmes cameos...since these are three-person+one backup, we could totally see Team Milky Holmes at the regionals. While watching Vanguard with my mom I put more thought into the ED, and it shows a bus with Team Card Capital in it, so maybe the ED is showing them on the way to the regionals? And the airplane Emi watches take off is for national or international tournaments?

This is the funniest episode yet; from the musical direction centered around Nagisa to Aichi being mistaken for Kamui's boyfriend, I just couldn't keep my laughter down. And next episode, Emi is going to cardfight! So much anticipation. This was all resolved rather realistically, but I was hoping to the end that the Captain wouldn't get his trigger. Tournament-play people play fast, and this episode really captured just how quickly matches against them can end. I attend a Pokemon TCG League regularly, and one of the players there tends to spend more time cutting his deck than he does actually fighting before it's over. Actually, I think this may be the shortest fight in the entire series so far. Combined, Aichi and Gouki only took eight turns over the course of ten minutes.

Even funnier when you realize that he's never once outright said that he didn't like guys. On that note, is it just me, or are they setting up for some kind of crazy harem between Aichi and the other main characters? Nice to see a game where there's actually a noticeable gap between the players for once. Before, it seemed like it often came down to whoever got triggers, but this time, it seemed like Aichi's opponent was already set up to guarantee a win the turn before he, well, won, regardless of what Aichi did on his turn. __________________ Last edited by Darkman.exe213; 2011-04-17 at 04:55.
