I'm confused, were you expecting an emo session? other than his abandonment and Nagi's anti-social reasons, there's rarely any tragedy. It is a COMEDY story... Personally, I think people are taking his parents too seriously. They have minor impact to the story here and there. The real story starts when he finally became their butler. This first episode is just an introduction.

Episode 1; I was put off by most of the comedy because it felt rather slapstick [slap·stick (-noun) 1. ...obvious farcical situations and jokes...] and cheap; that said, there were funny and original parts (like the angel vs. devil scene and that whole censorship farce) I lol'ed to. I guess I was expecting too much of it, or at least too much of an introductory episode. Someone earlier called this light comedy, and so it shall be.
Re-configuring expectation matrices. Command main {} Expectation bleh { expectation = "{last for [1] episode}" [light comedy] "{replace [serious comedy] [0]}"} Run { if ([style] = "Seinfield") {} Last edited by Lost; 2007-04-08 at 08:01. |

Interesting.
I picked it up due to some sort of hype over it, having never read the manga at all. Typical humor found in anime at times, but nevertheless still able to elicit more than a few laughs. That would be perhaps the only complaint valid for the pilot episode, and I still find it strange so far that people are willing to drop anime series immediately at the start just because of one factor. The narrator did remind me of the one from Negima?!, only slightly less...drastic. And as expected, Kugimiya Rie was perfect for Nagi. In any case, I like the animation and the story premise. It looks like a fun series so I'll probably be looking forward to it. |

If that was directed at me, don't get me wrong. I will be continuing this. It's just that I needed a shift in what I was expecting from the show. I'm sure I will continue to enjoy the series and its humour, as well as its premise (as soon as I get CoreAVC set-up, that is).

Episode 2 aired, apparently. Things are finally starting to get a little interesting. |

Well, just watched the first ep. While it was a bit uneven, I confess I was kindly inclined towards the show as soon as they threw in the Gendo Ikari cameo. I'm not sure just what this is, but I rather enjoyed it.

I don't remember any reference to Black Lagoon in the manga so they most probably added that into the anime. I'm reading the whole manga now and its really hilarious. It had a LOT of reference to other anime/manga series and its actually pretty fun if you're able to identify them.

You know, once we seriously considered adding another track which showed TLnotes for all puns we could find in the episodes.
Then we found out that there were simply too much of them - and what about those which we didn't catch on our own? ^_^ And so, the idea was dropped again... |
