What i expect from this ep is for some not-so-pleasant events for our protagonists that will involve the hunter. Him taking notice of Yorito and the episode title seems to hint at that. Perhaps we will get to hear something about Aono's upcoming discharge as well. (Face it - she won't be sitting in the hospital for all the series ).

Overall, i think this ep will be more gloomy then the previous ones, and will focus on Matsuri and the mystery surrounding her (To some extent).

Can't wait for my weekly Sola dosage >.<

Well, I'm inclined to think that this ep will still be the calm before the storm, but this time focusing on Matsuri, Takeshi and Mayuko, seeing as how ep 4 ended. There's also a high likelihood that Aono will be discharged this ep, I think.

I really liked the episode, which is helped along greatly by an intense battle between Matsuri and Tsujidou Takeshi. Seeing Aono's reaction to hearing about Matsuri from Koyori also makes me really interested in how much she loves her brother and what's going to happen from here.

Aono doesn't get discharged in this ep, but I think it is inevitable that she will. Either that or she will sneak out of the hospital based on what happened at the end of this ep.

Like two episodes in one. Both quite well done.

Spoiler for ep5:

The first half was gentle deepening of the emotional bonds between Yorito and Matsuri. I was just settling in my own mind that the inaction was okay. Then we get what the end of ep4 made us expect: the hunter coming after Matsuri.

Well done Hitchcockian surprise at first that it wasn't the hunter. Then the real thing. Although I knew Matsuri had to survive (this time), I didn't see quite how. Her going outside was a surprise. Her seed mode was a surprise after it had seemed that she had no weapons left.

Her willingness to die was moving. Yorito's willingness to die was amazing. At one level, hard to understand. At another, quite natural, considering how close they had drifted on the lake. The similarity between his willingness to defend Matsuri and the hunter's to defend the loli-in-a-trashcan was good.

Yorito had better ask Matsuri who the hunter is, and why. I want to know. Did she kill his family? Did she not? Why didn't she kill the hunter? Why does he "need" her life? What will Aono ask Yorito? Probably nothing. What will Yorito tell her? Probably not yet. But I do look forward to Matsuri-Yorito becoming even deeper.

I thought the animation could have been better, generally. But Yorito's face glaring at the hunter was good.

I can visualize scores of otakus swooning at the sight of the ponytail. I wonder what Kyon would have said about Matsuri's appearance. For some, I fear the combination of cute new dress, ponytail, and Mamiko may be too much to handle. Man, the animators are not holding anything back to raise Moe ratings. Many things happened, in a way we have already guessed. That's not a bad thing, for our guess was in line of what would be most likely development from the informations given to us. Still, one short shot of Aono in the end, just totally made me more concerned about what she will do, than anything else. And as we have already guessed from the dialogue from ep. 2, there is something very important Takeshi and Mayuko do not agree upon.

That kinda makes me wonder...

If it is what some people make the shock she got about Matsuri out to be, is she blood related to Yorito? Then again, perhaps she's just simply surprised or might even have known Matsuri sometime back.

The one bad thing about a slow unravelling of the past...It just makes you want to know all about it all the more.

Let's think basics. You have a 16 year old boy having a girl live in their house, without asking for approval to his only surviving family member. That doesn't sound good, and most people will be thinking something that is related to word "Ecchi!"

That important thought aside, looks like a very eventful episode. And is it me, or does it look like Matsuri is walking outside, even though it is fairly bright ? Unless it is so cloudy that the sun doesn't get through.

About Aono ... she will either become much less than happy about Matsuri ("Stealing" Yorito away fro her and all that other Kaede related stuff). Or she might become friends with her - both of them certainly know the feeling of loneliness, and that is what brought Aono and Koyori together.

*shrug* nothing wrong with 16 year olds and "ecchi" related stuff. (even though that isn't the case here). And Yorito certainly doesn't need any one's approval to get himself a girlfriend

It seems Takeshi isn't much unlike Yorito.

Great episode this week. The art style seems to change slightly from episode to episode, but I suppose that's normal. I felt one of the songs didn't fit within my tastes; hardly impacts the experience though. Also, a small animation segment was drastically lower resolution than usual, but it's minor. On the story side, things are finally beginning to come together. It's very quickly presented but very well played out--it should be a welcome change from those who didn't like last episode.

@Skyfall: Yup. It's reiterated in this episode; so long as she isn't in direct sunlight, she's just fine.

Spoiler:

Her asking whether Yorito likes rain is an important recurring question. In the end he comes to like it a bit more--you'll know why when you see the episode.

I have a feeling this is going to reduce me to a quivering bob of goo for the rest of the weekend. Curse you Sola! Why must you be so damned enjoyable!

Okay... That wasn't as difficult as I expected. Those first couple images had me worried. Still a big swing of the emotional pendulum. I'm having a hard time figuring out how I feel about Takeshi. Whether I should see him as the scared little boy from the flashback, or as the bitter, enraged man that comes later, or the patient, compassionate friend he is to Mayuko.

Yup. We need to notify the Japan Ponytail Society. Maybe we can get Noto Mamiko nominated for the 2007 Ponytail Award.

I wonder if that dress is one she got from Mana, though. It looks rather old-fashioned and may be something Matsuri already had. She looks lovely in it, in any case.

Only problem with this episode is there was only one scene with Mana. It's too bad, because that blouse is really cute.

from the first scene we see an insight into the hunter's reasons for being the way he is ~ and i feel that its one of those instances again where hes trying to get revenge on matsuri's clan rather than herself ~ its still a mystery as to when hes carrying around the loli but something tells me that she is going to be a key one day rather than just being idle all the time ~ but i really like the father/daugther thing they have going there :3



more matsuri and yurito relationship/bond building ~ and matsuri cleaning out the store of that weird tomato juice they decide to go take a walk outside when it was cloudy (only time possible for matsuri is when the sun is blocked out by the clouds) ~ and well it seems that matsuri likes playing pranks

and before i forget to mention...OMG!! ponytail!!!!

even though that some of their convosations are pointless overall it does serve the purpose of building up a bond ~ i just love the scene where they nearly fell off the boat and yorito had to grip her :3 anyone would fall for a guy who shows intent in providing security ~ and as the gaze off into the unbrella and fantasize it becomes clear that they are born to be with each other ^_^

koyori infiltrates into the household while yorito was visiting aono ~ which at first was made to look like the hunter guy...and so we have another meeting between main characters and its quite the sweet meeting with matsuri saving her life and my my dont they just looks cute together ^_^

but then the hunter really comes...he ruthlessly attacks matsuri with light producting darts...how it pains me to see matsuri getting hurt like that she gets corneres as the Takeshi shows no sign of backing off ~ she even at one point give up hope...and i say again...i hate seeing girls suffer!!! T_T
but she comes to with the help of the sky ceiling and grips Takeshi ~ she then used her powers of corrosion on his arm but she stopped while not aiming to cause any major damage...

she escapes outside and gets weakened even more...takeshi catches up and goes for the final blow but yorito takes the cut...telling matsuri that he will protect her we see a flashback by takeshi to when he was protecting the loli (not the one dead before) ~ she leaves after hearing her call and matsuri asks yorito if he likes the rain...bad vibes here as she faints



meanwhile aono can feel distress...does she have some powers as well?

overall it was an amazing ep...from the calm to the storm this is what ive been waiting for...as things go one im getting of of a feeling that things arent going to be forgiving

takeshi obviously has a good reason for hunting matsuri...from the first flashback we can already see that someone important to him has died and with the second flashback i can say that he saved loli tan knowing that he cannot let another soul die...and inspite seeing that in yorito's determination to save matsuri he becomes hesitant...boy things are getting interesting

This week completely redeemed last week's embarrassing episode The date in the rain was really cute, and Yorito finally took a hit for his beloved vampire/woe/whatever she is. I'm not sure what will be scarier: Aono chewing out Yorito for her presence or ignoring him.
