If the info you have is correct, then I have very high expectations for the next arc.

Reading 160 really has me really wondering what this 'game' might be. This is Toriko, and as we know from past arcs, anything is possible.

Gotta love Toriko's reaction regarding normal people wanting to fight him. :P

Very sweet chapter. Some more of that awesome worldbuilding that I love from this series come into play here (I especially like how the narcotic cuisine is brought up again), and Match makes his return. Furthermore, it's even hinted that we may run into some of those underground chefs that the bishokukai are hunting down. Definitely looking forward to what happens next.

Wait a minute, is the president telling Toriko to eat something that is very dangerous to eat? I mean, even if you cook so that it's edible, I don't think narcotic properties can be removed.

The Casino design was amazing. I like how even gambling's done with food, Toriko's probably gonna be more interested in what people are betting with than half the games lol.
I didn't notice it was Match at first had to go back and reread it.

Well, since I'm sure the garlic is a specially prepared ingredient (which has been the case for most of the items in the president's list so far), perhaps there is some specific way to cook it so that the narcotic effect is lessened (though I dunno why anyone WOULD want to do that..... I mean, a veggie that keeps you active without being tired for a month sounds pretty darn useful! ).

And seeing as the prize the gang is seeking is in a casino, perhaps Coco will end up being the most useful partner in this case. I'd think a fortuneteller would have an easier time in a gambling game, no?

About that whole "keep you active without being tired for a month" description, consider that without taking time to rest any living body can wear itself down very quickly. Maybe people with super-human bodies that can repair themselves with food can handle it, but regular people can only handle so much. I don't know much about drugs or how human bodies react to various ones, but from the description that garlic may be both a stimulant and a painkiller.

Toriko would be even more vulnerable if he was on steroids...I mean, if he doesn't eat for a day he'd die of hunger, now imagine his skills that expend millions of calories being used without rest...unless of course he channels all that energy into eating even more, ever faster

I'm not sure whether the description is that the meteor garlic allows you to forgo your limitations and burn yourself out by not resting for 1 month.

It could be sort of like giving the eater enough energy and power to last for a whole month without eating (a bit like the senzu beans in DBZ). In which case, it would be perfect as a fighting aid for Toriko and co who use up absurd amounts of calories/energy. Imagine being able to spam their skills without concern of running out.

I do like the idea of something similar to senzu beans, but then why is the garlic an illegal ingredient? Or better yet, why is it called "doping garlic"?

Yeah, I had thought of the senzu beans myself when I first saw the description of the garlic, but the fact that it seems to be semi-illegal makes me think that the power boost gained upon its consumption comes with a pretty big price, though that hasn't been specified yet. Hence why I once again bring up the possibility of its narcotic effects being weakened if cooked/prepared properly.....

I don't think it was illegal right? Merely that it was extremely rare and can only be found on the black market/casino. It was just against the backdrop that there were lots of illegal stuff there.

Might be wrong though, almost midnight on my end and too tired to re-read.

After rereading some chapters, I noticed something. Starting with the BB Corn, every big ingredient has a unique environment that contrasts with another ingredient's environment. It would take too long to elaborate on the differences, so I'm just going to say which of the ingredients' environments contrast. First is BB Corn and Century Soup; next is Ozone Herb and Melk (or is it Milk?) Stardust; and then there's the Mellow Cola and Shining Gourami.

What do you think?

^I guess it's an interesting thought (BTW, yes it's spelled Melk). I'll have to reread the past chapters so I can see the connection for myself, though.....

Anyway, new spoiler's out, and it's a very interesting one:

Spoiler for chapter 161:

LOL I know there are coins that you can eat, but not like that...Toriko's funny, trying to eat Coco's coin The gourmet casino is very interesting, I'm kinda surprised Toriko and company got Match to follow them to the gambling, especially if we assume that Match knows of Coco's skill...who would ever play against him? Looking forward to the dark ingredients the casino holds...how will Komatsu's food luck affect this world?

It's good to see Match again, especially seeing as the anime has only just about introduced him for the first time.

I should have known the coins could be eaten.

Maybe Match reappears because of the anime. And at the end of the chapter, is the guy doping?

^I wouldn't be surprised if that's what he was doing, since Livebearer's the one responsible for spreading narcotic food in the first place.

But yeah, another awesome chapter. Like I said in my last post, I'm pretty much convinced that Match's former boss joined biotope 0 since Yosaku invited him to the Gourmet World. I guess the IGO president may be facing some trouble, despite his badassery.....

I also agree that the casino's a cool place. Heh, I'd like to try out some of those edible coins myself. I also noticed that one of the food prizes is "fried rock". I wonder how exactly you eat that without breaking your teeth? And now that we've been introduced to Livebearer, I wonder who his strongest lackeys are. I guess that one masked guy who reported to him could be one of them. It's pretty clear these guys mean business after all, especially after seeing how the security took care of that one thief......
