The Chinese traders came from Fujian, 福建, in China and were part of the larger Chinese maritime trading economy that grew in importance from the Southern Song dynasty, 南宋, (1127–1276 CE) onwards. This system droved the Chinese export economy and facilitate the import of goods for the Chinese domestic market. The Chinese participation in host societies was generally limited to economic and trading issues.

Within this Spanish political economy, the Chinese fulfilled important economic function as trade intermediaries. The Spanish refer to the Chinese as “Sangley” derived from the Hokkien term for business/trade “Sengli”, 生意 (Shengyi).

Although economically useful to the Spanish, the Chinese were perceived as potential threats and competitors. This mixed relationship resulted in alternating policies and attitudes towards the Chinese and was reflected in Spanish attempts to convert, massacre or expel the Chinese from the Philippines.[/url]

Why do I get the feelings that many here look at China as if they want to lead a war to claim their lebensraum???

I mean, come on. It's not like China wants to start an aggressive war against the Phillipines. It'd be too much attention on both sides (China and Philippines) and the two, realistically, have no real thing to win.

Wanting war? Most likely not. Bully neighbors? Yes.

Again, yes, we are peace loving people. We just don't like other nations pushing us around claiming anything just with our sight. Scarborough is like 200km from us while 1000km from them.

The problem is they claim the whole South China Sea theirs. So everything 'inside' this boundary was their properties

In fact, if i'm not wrong, Vietnam, Laos, Mongolian, Korea, etc.... was once colonised/annexed countries by China (hence Middle Country). It will be absolute disaster if China can just claim any land owned by one of their ancient regime. Then they also can annex Mongolia and put a massive amount of land grab toward Eastern Europe to be part of old Mongolian empire.

That doesn't mean you can throw your big dick around and expect everyone to fall in step behind you without protest

More like Mongolia should annex THEM and everything else all the way to Central Europe if ancient claims mattered

Oh, I get it. The US D**K is the D**K of freedom and justice, while the Chinese one is not. Hilarious.
No one said US involvement into Iraq and Afghanistan was right anyway. Do you really expect it's right to go to war with another weaker countries just because "other superpower also did it"?

"The strong does what they can, while the weak does what they must". Do you expect that China is the victim here, and the mighty Philipines are planning to bully China over their rightious claims over South China Sea?

And yet that's what China is doing in its own backyard. Same as what the US does to the Americas minus the getting involved in local civil wars

China...? China is not much better than the US. Worse on certain issues even though that is largely domestic issues in their own country.

Also, I should add that in Asia, the US is not the one posing a threat. If anyone joins them it's because it's more beneficial, that's all.

China....it's not because your side has a large military or nuclear weaponry. It's that you coerce others without offering anything in return. You honestly think you are entitled to the entire South China Sea?

I'd rather they both zip up their trousers and call it a day.

Depends on how you view things. For starters Korea was never part of the Empire, while how you consider the "barbarian" dynasties (Yuan being the prime example) changes the boundaries. Since the Qing was a Manchu dynasty, does that mean PRC has claim over Manchuria or not?

Same thing for Mongolia. She should have claimed Siberia or probably anything East of the Ural mountains.

Bahh, the Koreans. Without the Chinese they would have fallen to become Japanese colonies since the time of Toyomomi Hedeyoshi (late 16th century). The Chinese fought and saved them TWICE. We tried a third time in late Qing dynasty, except failed this time.

Pretty sure we're not to confuse official claims based on historical precedents with the reality on the ground. In the end, if China really wants to roll with reclaiming the closer-to-vietnam-but-why-is-it-named-South-China Sea, they're not going to achieve it peacefully, and they know it.

But what warship? The Article only talks about the 10 Hueys (Bell UH-1 helecopter) and a referbished US Coast Guard Hamilton-class Cutter (ex-USCGC Dallas). It mentions that they will be getting a ship from Europe as well to make all the ports equal...but not saying what that ship was. (Rumor suggest an Italian Frigate Soldati class....the ones built for Iraq in the 1980s)

The rumor might possible true according to wiki source.

A guided missile frigate. This looks tougher than i imagine.
Spoiler for Lupo Class:

Additional Info:
Its seem the PN are now addicted mode of seeking of a new anti-ship cruise missile for F-16 or frigates. Also they will purchase of highly cost submarine (Holy shi_).

It's probably because the country will change their leader, which is the equivalent of our election madness. For instance, Romney would like to retract his statement on Russia, Obama his bloating of Ben Laden's death, Netanyahu on Iran and Ahmadinejad on Israel (OK, yeah, "elections" in Iran's case).
