i definetely like Kyon, hes half the reason i watch and read the series and thats my opinion :P *skips all the spoilerizing and tempting talk about snow mountain* oh why couldnt ryoko and kyon just get along

but its true that he is far from braindead, he just lacks enthusiasm which is complemented by haruhi's excess of it ... atleast thats what i think (plus without his narration the show/novels wouldnt be half as appealing to me aha)

he wasnt made as a enthusiasm chara, he just doenst want get into trouble or makes things worse
he is just an ordinary human being armed with common sense like he said himself

and thats exactly why hes my fave, i mean hes just a regular "Joe" just like me or any guy
no powers or anything, plus he makes some of the funniest comments (things i might say in those situations or atleast think to myself )

This is basically the novelization of Episode 1 of the anime, so nothing new, besides some new insights on Kyon's witty comments, if you can find any.

All the side stories that take place before Volume 4 have now been completed. Now moving on to the series watershed - Volume 4 - The Disappearance of Suzumiya Haruhi.

Endless Eight, now that I think about it, pretty much shattered any coherence that existed in their time travel scheme. Mikuru paniced because she lost her ability to contact the future... but the fact that she's normally in contact with the future implies that normal changes to the timeline don't affect 'her future.'

I mean, I guess the idea is that Haruhi can literally destroy the/a/all futures directly, not just through he effects on the present, but...

Argh.

could well be that her future depends on the 'changes' that occured in the contiguous timeline Haruhi shares with the world.
Haruhi's ability to alter the flow of time is quite amazing, however notice how data entity are unaffected.

If I remember correctly, I read somewhere in the novels that the Data Entities lived outside of the time boundaries.

that was in endless eight wasnt it? thats why Nagato could remember all 15,000+ relapses


also Haruhi being able to play with time in any way she wishes doesnt surprise me... since shes omnipotent and all >_> but omnipotent doesnt mean omniscient poor thing doesnt even know what shes capable of (its sort of like Bruce Almighty, i really think someone or something gave her these powers for some unknown reason... someone offered that theory in the novel i think it was Koizumi)

On the outside she looked exactly the same, but she kept making unfamiliar reactions which stimulated my interest. Deliberately I fixed my eyes on her in observation.

Though her eyes' focus was on the pages, it was clear she was not reading a single word. Nagato opened her thin slips for silent gasping, and her subtle chest's heaving rhythm became gradually visible. The faint blush around her cheeks became redder by the minute. To tell the truth, this Nagato was quite -- no, very cute. Though for just a moment, an idea flashed across my mind: it might not be such a bad idea to just join the Literature Club and enjoyed the whole new world without Haruhi.

That's why I keep saying that if Volume 4 is animated, the popularity of Yuki will shoot up even another notch. I just can't wait to see that scene animated by the masterful hands of Kyotoani.

I am thinking of posting that youtube video in the voting thread when Yuki clashes with Haruhi. Do you think it's a good idea Kinny?
