They've put their thoughts out there in various interviews... They've mentioned how they failed to capture the young audience they want, and hoped that second gen would do better... And so far it appears that it hasn't.

Here's how I would summarize AGE:

Very slow start, poorly written, boring story. The end of Flit's arc picked up quite a lot and the show went from a 2/10 to a 7.5-8/10. Now Asem's arc has picked up a lot, and this last episode went up to a 9/10 for me at least. There are still some things that irk me, but I'm willing ot look the other way as long as I get shit like what we got in episode 20. Kick ass mobile suit fights with kickass BGM, sprinkled with character drama. They could do more, but the show is finally starting to be enjoyable.
Assuming the trend continues this can be quite a good Gundam show.

See, now that's where i have mixed feelings, AGE has some good episode, and lots of bad ones aswell, but there is no episode that has that " average " feeling, it's either good or bad, some episodes are 2/10 while others are 9/10, i'd give the first generation a 5/10 due to the wierd pacing and close to no character development, hell even Flit is dull.

The series has so much potential, I think ep. 20 proves that, but for some reason it seems we have to go through 3 episodes of high school hijinks to get one "good" episode.

I don't even think you can call them just "high school hijinks" since most of it was done in a flash back sequence however they served their purpose...

You know when or even if this series finish it's run I'd like to see someone write a more R rated version of AGE with slight alteration on some parts.

You know just because model kits get discounted from certain retail outlets (anybody know the context of this picture at all) doesn't necessarily mean anything specific. It's still priced around the regular 1200 yen at many places, some places have that same kit for 25% off and this one just happens to be 84%. Could be a clearance sale, could be just about anything. To tell a story I got an HG Gundam 00 kit for $5 bucks last year (about 66-75%) off cause it happened to be overstocked at the store and they wanted to make some more room for other kits. It's really not that uncommon. I mean if I wanted to post a picture for every Gundam model I've ever found that's been ultra-discounted and proclaim that it means the franchise isn't doing well I could be here for days.

Honestly I'm kind of getting tired of people posting these no context pictures of Age kits on sale and proclaiming that it means something specific. It's just getting tiresome. This is the sort of thing that flies better on 4chan.

Yeah, I agree. I swear four five of my favourite AGE episodes have been from Gen 2. Hoep it doesnt enter a Fardain like arc.

Ratings/Sales don't necessarily equate to quality. Japans entertainment much like ours is pretty much done on the front of giving a shit about things that arent an overblown spectacle. I don't know how much longer its going ro take for other folks to connect the dots but its pretty grim looking.

That said 2.2 doesn't really strike me as that bad for a first time attempt at something like this. Considering the tremendous amount of butthurt from older fans in japan and how established ages competition is in the kids department this seems passable.

Its not necessarily the individual rating that's bad. Its the trajectory and the trending.

Maybe they just couldnt be bothered with the arc, even if its good. There was that theory about a whole new cast being a decent excuse to leave some pages back.

I just think that japanese have judged it now and they just won't watch it because of the first impressions. I've seen good products that fail completely because of bad marketing, this is one of them. not saying that it fails as in it's bad, I'm saying it from a marketing standpoint, considering that people have been shunning simply because they mistook the age-device as a digivice-like contraption. Every single FUD over AGE is based on the AGE device.

That's true, bad early impressions/marketing can kill a series early on. I don't think the lead character designs helped either, not with the older fans anyways.

I think failure with older fans would be something Sunrise would accept if not risk if they can bring on the younger audience, but that's not working either. I hope AGE will finish its intended run at least, whatever it's supposed to be.
