... Oh hey, it really does break 15K.

Good to see it doing so well! 15K (furthermore DVD) in first week is quite a good amount there! Thank God to see this series doing as good as its popularity! <3333 Looking forward for the 2nd week sales, and hoping it would get a hold of near 20K in total sales.

Also, need confirmation, but this is the highest first week DVD sales that BB's ever have up until now right?

Whoa, 16k. And I only thought it was safe to expect something around 10k. This is even as satisfying as when Brain's Base scored their first real success with Natsume Yuujinchou (vol. 1 sold 11,261 copies in the first week and 13,652 overall Natsuki, so Durarara!! does indeed hold the first week record by quite a margin). I'm so glad both the studio and Takahiro Oomori are getting the recognition they deserve.

I'm still sad over the lack of BDs, and thought it'd cripple the sales, but I suppose fangirls remain the most DVD-friendly category.

Ah thanks for answering and confirming it, Katapan. Lack of BD is easily this series weakness in DVD marketing indeed-as much as I believe that there are (suspiciously silent in Japanese network) male viewers, they probably will wait for the BD to be released, no matter when it is.

... I'm still confused about the series target audience though. Its selling properties are definitely slanted towards women (Heh. No original artist's images bonus are definitely a glaring hint, more when the seiyuus are too involved in the DVD specials), but I seriously thought the anime itself is catering to both women and men in terms of story and settings and its content Which actually make the prediction harder, not helping when casual anime viewers are also jumping in the wagon. D:

Let's see if it keep loving to destroy usual predictions next week.

Correct, although there's no money in it for Brains Base regardless of how well the series sells. They aren't on the production committee this time.......

In print form (light novel, manga), the property was marketed toward males. However, in anime form, the producers specifically aimed the show at women. It isn't intended for hardcore otaku.

I personally think BB did a good job with Durarara. As a stereotypical fangirl myself, I enjoyed this series without all the...hints. It's a good series in its own right. It's been a while since I've seen something popular with fangirls without all the 'hints' ruining the show itself. I'm not a big fan of series that tries too hard catering to fangirls.

I still think alot of the fans are waiting for the BD release, considering this is produced in HD.

Personally I found it very interesting that Hetalia only sold 7k with 7th volume, when it sells 17k in the first week since volume 2. Did Durarara snatch some of Hetalia fangirls?

Yeah, I don't feel the series pandering (at least in the show) to males or, females in particular. It's probably a mixed audience if anything as quite a lot to like about this series for both groups.

Just to add. Looks like there's stock problem. Amazon is stocking this again in a week time. Probably not as much of a stock problem as Bakemonogatari, but I think this might have effect the sales.

I'm loving all the covers so far, very graphic and nice use of colored negative space. Makes me want a poster of just the DVD covers.
