What was special about 4-25-04?

From the main forums.animesuki.com page....

"Most users ever online was 8297, 2004-04-25 at 19:08."

WOWOW, what was going on? did some new show just debut or something on that day?

It meant that on that day, and on that time, there were the most forum members online ever

Actually they want to know what happened that day that convinced so many people to connect to the forum.

I'm guessing a series was licensed... That was, after all, the weekend of SakuraCon 2004.

Acording to ANN, these were the titles officially announced at Sakura con:

(ADV)
Petite Princess Yuushi
Parasite Dolls

(Geneon)
eX-Driver the Movie
100 Stories
Stellvia of the Universe
Gad-Gaurd
Demon Lord Dante
Paranoia Agent
R.O.D TV

I don't really see anything there that would drive that much traffic, so I, too, wonder what was going on on that particular day.

I'm guessing it was because of a Naruto episode.

Actually what most likely happened was *some* kind of attack on the forum server that
jacked up the "most users online" count to some insane level while at the same time nearly
taking out the server... sad but true.

Honestly I seriously doubt we REALLY at one point got 8000 users online. Even if it wasn't
an attack, it would have the same effect on the server...

the # of users online are also jacked up because of the spiderbots searching the forums. no?

it may have just been a "search the AS forum" day in conjunction with Sakuracon.

but 8000 is going to be far surpassed when naruto gets licensed and taken off the front page

"omgz! why is teh naurto not on teh fornt paeg?"

As Mb81 pointed out to me; someone posted a link to a locked thread in the forum; on a popular Naruto site... it's like a REALLY scaled down version of the slashdot effect... lots of new people viewing the site because of a post on a different popular site.

that's a better reason then mine...i was thinking that was around the time that all the torrents on scarywater were offline and EVERYONE wanted to know why...so they all came here...i remember the scarywater thread having the most views at once in any other thread...

All this makes me realize that Mb81 did the good thing by removing the names in the threads. I remember the "AonE got busted" thread (the aprils fool joke one) and how it raised to almost 100 members looking at it, all those names in the bottom make the thread very difficult to load, and by that time there werent as many active users as now, imagine a "naruto licenced" thread

arent there any stats for the forums? it would be interesting how the number of users has grown over the time, I mean the forums now have 11000+ members ?!?!

EDIT:

O M G... I was just checking...22000+ members O_o!! even if more than half of them dont ever post is still a huge number!

The Agent Rory clones killed the server and had themselves a revolution.

I noticed this too lately. Though I did'nt payed much attention to that. Anyway, I really thought that the reason for this was... the server mulfunctioned causing this unbelievable stats. well... that's my speculation.
