Reki is tied with Riko at first place, not surprise there. Though I though that Jeane would top the list for sure. Cant forget shirayuki either, so 1 more vote for her too. Kinji, meh who care about the male protagonist anyway

Honestly, though Aria is technically the star of the franchise, this season's (assuming we get a Season 2 ) true star is Riko-chan, hands down.

She was the mischeivous heart and soul that drove the story, and stole every scene she was in with her sultry yet innocent sexuality.

Jeanne won me over with her adorable glasses/uniform combo, as well as her AWFUL (yet retrospectively chillingly-accurate) rendering of Vlad.

Shirayuki... hmm.... craziness notwithstanding, there is something so irresistably de-licious about a maiden in an easily removable traditional Japanese outfit....

And mangatron old-man: Nothing wrong with liking Aria-chan's mom. Now wonder she's so cute and huggable, its genetic. I would have ticked "other" if I knew it covered her mom too!!

For me Riko was easily the best, her personality, antics, plans, and motivation all made for a very interesting and likable characters plus she was really cute sometimes xD.
Others: Kinji was a fairly good male lead aside from his wanting to quit thing. And lowest of Favorites would be Aria she was a decent likable tsundere just far from being one of my favorite[Lotte was still the better Kugumiya Rie Tsundere still season ].

The fact the Muto is even a choice to vote for amuses me. He hardly had any presence.

But in my case Kinji is the winner, because there was no cooler character, even though the anime hurt his real personality a bit.

For the girls it comes down to Riko or Shirayuki. Both are more cute than cool though and both have some kind of "psychosis" so it's hard to make a decision between the two.

I guess I'll say Riko since her "psychosis" is played more seriously than Shirayuki's, which is more for comedy.

#1. Riko

She made the series, the ride, much more enjoyable. Her general behavior, her backstory, her trolling. Everything does. Don't ever change Riko.

#2. Jeanne d'Arc.

White-haired pretty girl. One of the more level-headed characters of the show. Related to one of my favorite historical figures of French history. Her horrible drawing skills and awesome legs seals the deal to me.

Totally not biased because the two first just so happened to be french.

#3. Kinji.

I like him more than Touma (who is one of the reasons I had hard time to go through index). It's not much his HSS that makes me like him. It's his nonchalance and this "wtf is this shit" attitude toward the occurence of the series.

#4. Shirayuki.

Dark-haired. Bishoujo. Yamato Nadeshiko. Sword Maiden. Miko. A slice of yandere. She hit too many moe buttons in me. But Riko outclasses her for reasons stated above. Yeah, I like Shirayuki but Riko made the series much more enjoyable and made the adaptation less cringe worthy.

#5. Reki.

Sniper. Petite. Silent Badass. With a wolf.

My problem with Aria, the titular character, might be because she appears to be yet again a Kugimiya tsundere, and pales when she is compared to another tsundere who debuted in this same spring.

It's not so debatable that Riko stole the spotlight in the end. XD

Aria's still my favorite though, followed by Kinji, then Riko. Then Jeanne because....I cannot deny that she is cool!! (no pun intended)

Having just finished watching it, I'd say my favorites were in this order:

1. Reki -
   • Most "normal" and cool, quiet girl of the group. Not as obsessive as Shirayuki; nor as tsun as Aria; nor as manipulative as Riko. Like someone mentioned above, I wished she had more screen time.
   • 
2. Riko -
   • Beat out Aria towards the end, especially her background and story. I'll forgive her digressions and attempts at getting Kinji in very *ahem* tempting positions.
3. Aria -
   • Not as crazy as Shirayuki and not as obsessive either. She reminded me of Shana, just replace "Urosai!" with "Baka!" and pink twintails.
4. Jeanne -
   • Introduced too late into the series, but then again this shot made me change my mind about her:

Honorable Mentions:

• Kinji - Probably one of the more unique male protagonists I've seen so far especially his Hysteria mode was a nice twist to his character.
• Shirayuki - If she wasn't that obsessive [or batshit crazy], probably be up there in the ranking.

Now, I hope there is a second season. I hate it when a series ends with no definite conclusion. Reminded me of watching Shakugan no Shana and Zero no Tsukaima in a way.

Kinji: I think it's kinda funny how he hates HSS so much he is willing to risk his and others life to not use, and even then his biggest concern is not the opponent it is not say anything embarrassing.

Reki: I like her indifferent ways of living.

Jeanne: The legs, the face and the seriousness.

Others:
Kana: The bullet storm battle was cool.

Fuuma: Funny. Her affections for her master just spark so much comedy!

I could'nt agree more. She (Riko) gave life to the otherwise, fast-paced and dull rendition of Hidan no Aria...
