Maou believes the humans fight for resources, so they wage wars. So, she wants to solve the hunger in southern kingdoms. In real life, this type of enemy leader doesn't exist. Since we are talking about a fiction, it's up to you to overlook it.

As a ruler, she doesn't benefit from the war. Further, she currently doesn't have a strong hold on her own rule. Every ruler needs legitimacy. Since she isn't interested in military victories, she instead wants to have Peace being her legacy. Maou isn't some saint; she isn't doing what she does out of kindness, even though she is kind. She is doing this because it is the only action that isn't retarded to her educated self.

That would be ok if our female protagonist was a queen, but she is not, she is the demon king. There are parallels in real life where female monarchs have gotten the king title, which basically mean that she is not the cohort of a king, she is the king and the she creates the lineage, not her male partner. So if her sons/daughters/futanaris are half-demon and/or lack noble blood should be no problem if she so deems.

A lot of the confusion about the Demon Lord's behavior can be gleared by dropping over to the manga/LN section actually, since it's way too early to reveal here, and the anime might take a while to get to the section in the story that explains it.
I will say this though, the tribe that both the Demon Lord and the Head Maid belong to don't really fall under what we might consider "classic" demons (with good reason). Also the title Demon Lord ISN'T hereditary, so there's no real pressure to get an heir ASAP.

I'm impressed that the anime has been able to cover so much material within the span of three episodes without making it feel rushed. I'm looking forward to the next episode, assuming
Spoiler for next episode:
However I did notice that the animation quality has taken a nose dive in episode 3. There were many instances where the characters' hands or set items were shoddily drawn. In fact there was one shot of Yuusha's hand in the Lake Country convent scene that was so badly drawn that it actually made me cringe. I hope this doesn't continue or get any worse in the future, because while I like this show for its character/plot I don't think I can stand 9 more episodes of the same poor quality animation. The new Demon King know what her current life is suppose to be. She doesn't like it. As it is she had to deceive her own people just to hold onto power. She has to actually change the political climate, or the political climate would remove her instead.

Yuusha is just oblivious. I can only shake my head at how Maou has to make all the first moves, while he's as passive as a piece of furniture. It's like we've never progressed past some kind of cavemen mentality: all the man is capable of is going out to bash some animal in the skull, or taking out a few troublesome demons for Maou. I almost suspect she's making up some excuse of a task for him to do, so he doesn't feel he's totally useless. |

After watching the first 2 episodes i am thoroughly stuck on the show. I pretty much love everything about it especially a new take on the old Hero vs Demon king story. The story has been rehashed so many times always with a new take but i think this one deserves a closer look. Especially given how innocent our well endowed Demon King happens to be. I think what I took most from both episodes so far is that humans and in this case demons alike are addicted to war. Even in our world war can yield great profits for some while other suffer horribly. The endless loop of war has become the staple of society in this world and without all countries everywhere will descend into even more chaos, poverty basically the fall of society. Nothing unites us humans like a common enemy so if we are not busy fighting ourselves we will be fighting someone else. I enjoyed how the demons are much more similar to humans than humans themselves would like to think. So how to do ween the world of war.....? well i guess that will be shown throughout the story. Both of the main characters are willing to basically make themselves the enemy of both worlds to in the end make the world a better place even if it means sacrificing some now.
Even the maid had a life lesson to teach the children. Pulling yourself up with your own bootstraps, there is no shame in asking for help but relying only on that help to survive without making an effort to better yourself makes you worth very little. Her plan seems to stretch very far into the future and seems to have been planned hundreds of years in advance. Perhaps because she was waiting on the birth of the Yuusha although hes about as clueless as they come when it comes to Maou. I find it interesting that shes loved him even before she met him, there was no real information given on this so im not sure how and or why the importance of the fact im sure is not to be ignored since it was introduced in the first episode. But each belong to each other now and that also has great significance Looking forward to sitting down and watching episode 3, great series so far and iv already recommend it several others.

Also going back to my previous post Hero isn't just dumb brawn. He's a military tactic and the only one Maou can trust to be her sword & shield to make sure no one tries to ruin her plans. If she really saw nothing but a dumb caveman in him as you put it then I'm sure she wouldn't have picked him has her partner.

I'm in despair. The fact that many of the people who have posted in this thread have been so overdosed in the overblown emotional reactions of popularized anime and manga that they cannot recognize subtle emotional cues has left me in despair.

Otaku pandering it WOULD be a lot easier if they just got it on in the first or second ep, then there would be not much time wasted on female knight's jealousy of maou. They could spend more time on the story/plot/character development. Besides you don't get that strong and NOT have an enormous amount of testosterone in your body that would FORCE you to sex the nearest female you see. But that doesn't sell BDs/DVDs. You just gotta ignore it or fast forward through yuushas parts (like I do) |
