Nice.... very damning, even allowing for her early treatment of Rin. You did leave out him worrying about her overworking and taking care of her when she was sick but once he and Asa swirled ... both of them neglected her feelings in direct contradiction to their behavior for the last five plus years.

I guess one of the interesting things about japanese stories is that rarely is anyone a "hero" ... they all have flaws, make mistakes ... sometimes screw up when trying to do the right thing.

I think Rin had a lot of emotion for Kaede but it was multi-channel .... he cared for her but couldn't get over how she treated him and it came out in odd psychotic ways as you've documented. Moral of the story -- never take anyone for granted who does things for you, it is a terrible sort of hell.

Hey no disrespect to Kaede, but Rin don't want her a$$ right?? I mean you can't make yourself fall in love with a girl you don't love (regardless of what they do for you)...I had a couple of girls who really liked me that i wound up having bad-feelings afterward because I didn't like them like they liked me...It just happens....I mean Rin is a douche as a anime character (without a doubt)...But looking at this soley as 1 man to another...Yeah it sucks to hurt a kind girls feelings, but if you don't want her she just has to accept that...if not she's just gonna go insane like it seems Kaede does...Not all guys like clingy girls...

The sweet-little wife at home is cooking and cleaning while the husband is out having an affair with a chick he has more passion for...that's what happens when you marry a girl just because she's nice and takes care of you...Most guys (a few I know) need more (or something different) from that...

True enough. In a relationship there needs to be a somewhat equal amount of give and take and in this case one side was giving and the other side was pretty much taking without giving much back (emotionally).

Characters like Kaede are meant to be the type that you can sympathize with and want to see have the happy ending. But in the end, it just doesn't happen. Great vehicle for potential drama right?

Though i have to say, if you can get past the part about her Rin fixation she was a pretty solid character. Kind, very intelligent, sociable (does keep to herself a bit, but i think her friendship with Sia and Nerine is slowly getting her foot out the door), and she seems to carry that motherly air around her (maybe thanks to Primula).
She seemed to be more of a smothering mother to Rin in this series. Even the little scene she had with him before he left looked like a child leaving the nest for the first time.

Though I think the Drama could of been much better if they went with kaede, while I dont really want the story to go that way with the romance, the Drama they had in ep.21 was stupid. It was up to the writers, Rin could of ended up with Kaede, just that the story didn't go that way. or they could of had neither which would of been good. and still they could of had the Drama. Though the Drama Mostly come just out of Kaede and for past Arc and had nothing to do with ep.21 (imo) ( the ep. which alot of people thought of silly.) but for the Drama that was ep.21 I dont think was well! done.

True, but they could of changed the story, 'Rins feelings' and everything would be very different. But well we have it now that Rin does have any romanctic feelings but still it cant be overlooked he just tried to avoid/ignore Kaede alot of the time. And So..

==> I think the problem that everone had is that Rin treated Kaede Poorly, and dealt with the situation poorly, and how some people wouldn't mind Rin if! fix (Rin didn't have to show Romantic feeling to Care for Kaede) things out in a good way, (say around ep.20/ep.21) in alot peoples eyes he didn't and was even a bigger Idoit for for it.

Well thats what her charater is meant to be like, (Well not the smothering mother but the fact that she just kept and kept looking after Rin) Very caring its not like Kaede was going to stop looking after Rin, Kaede loved Rin as we all know and she wasn't the most sable character but the 'looking after' Rin was how she showed her love, and its partly because of Rin that it seemed smothering.

Because of the caring/looking after such people might think mother... (Which I can understand but it never comes to my mind ~ as different character show there love in different ways) as with Asa I thought she was more like a friend to Rin or Big sister/Bitch/mother of the whole group. ^^;;

Lots of hate towards Rin, I think no matter what Rin did someone would get hurt. Kaede happened to get hurt, but she becomes sane again so it is all good.
