Ch1
Shirayuki is talking it out with Kinji and Kaname at a McDonalds. Shirayuki duelled it out with Kaname at the end of previous volume, no clear victor but a ton of collateral damage. She fixed it the next day though.
Kinji chose a public fast food place so the girls won’t just pull out guns and start shooting with all these bystanders around. He’s worried the girls will sink the city if they go all out. Both Shirayuki and Kaname refuse to settle this peacefully.
Shirayuki says since Kaname enrolled to school using a US Butei license they’ll play by Butei rules for a duel. The staff allows fights between students as long as nobody dies or is permanently injured, and no legal proceedings come after that. If anyone actually went to the police after losing and suing the victors they’d be laughed out of Butei High.
Kaname agreed to the duel, and told her she won’t play dirty like Shirayuki, Aria and others will be doing, since Kinji told her not to. She grabbed the nearby waitress’ ass, who’s revealed to be Jeanne. Kaname told them both since Kinji’s weak against beautiful girls she’ll take them both down. They Kinji figured out that Shirayuki didn’t come alone, with the rest of Team Baskerville already hidden on place for a ambush; Aria’s at the back making fries (with her gun bulging out), Riko’s a cashier, and Reki’s outside sweeping the ground. Shirayuki says they’re not here to fight, just in case Kaname goes out of control.
The rules for the duel are one of the more dangerous kinds, used more in US compared to Japan. The two people duelling is in a set area, both of them allowed a partner who can intervene only once. The duel ends if one side admits defeat or cannot fight any more. If either side steps outside the area the bystanders can push them back into the fight or shoot them full of bullets; so no escape is possible and they have to finish the duel. Kinji notes if you don’t have many friends then you’re in trouble, as the bystanders surrounding the area aren’t required to be neutral parties.
Next night, they had their duel. Aria is Tsun-ing about this has nothing to do with trying to take him back from Kaname (she has the ‘Coloured pastel’ bullet set shipped over from the Vatican last Volume, which is Professional Butei bullets with additional effects in them (eg, flash bang, extra explosive power etc)). Riko commented everyone has gone Yandere over Kinji (cluster bullet spread gun). The Irokane that blocks magic is not as thick as when Kaname attacked last time, so Shirayuki can go all out.
Kinji tries to talk Jeanne out of fighting, saying he didn’t think she was someone that does something this barbaric. She replied if he wasn’t useless and failed to bring Kaname to their side of the Eastern War she wouldn’t be trying to force her to join using force. Kinji was told to be a ‘Romeo’ and seduce Kaname onto their side if necessary, which he thought isn’t going to happen as A) he’s bad with girls and B) Kaname’s his sister. Kinji shot back before speaking of failing or success, they didn’t even give him a chance to refuse the job.
The duel is about to start, and Kinji at the last minute says he’ll be Kaname’s helper like how Jeanne is working with Shirayuki. He doesn’t like seeing people being ganged up on. Despite the odds against her, Kaname had boasted if she leaves the 10m in diameter area she set for herself she’ll concede defeat. Kinji knew however that was just bravado, as even Kaname knows the odds are against her.
Fight starts. Shirayuki tried to make Kaname’s sword too hot for her to hold, but failed as the Kaname’s sword have been made so heat won’t affect it much. Kaname struck back, cutting two holes in Shirayuki’s shirt. Shirayuki barely dodged those attacks, as otherwise she’d have two gashes in her body.
Shirayuki brought out one of her strongest attacks, but with a downside of long casting time. Kaname tried to attack at this point but Jeanne blocked her. Kaname counterattacked, then Shirayuki came back to attack, and when her sword came into contact with Kaname’s Shirayuki shattered the other girl’s sword. Despite Kaname’s sword being a high-tech one with reinforced edge and can emulate a chainsaw, extreme heat then cold will still chatter it since it was still a metal blade. Kaname lost when Shirayuki slammed her sword’s back onto her. Kaname then tried to attack again, but Kinji stopped her; Shirayuki’s last strike knocked her foot out of the circle, and by her own rules it’s her loss. Kaname cried about that defeat.
After the fight, Jeanne congratulated Kaname on a well-executed attack. The armour and clothing on her back have all been cut away, showing her underwear and a sizable patch of her skin. Kinji thinks he’ll never know how does girls wear underwear with the hook on the back, as opposed to Aria with her hook at the front. Shirayuki is calming Kaname down after her loss and stopping her tears, saying Kaname’s strong, as expected of Kinji’s sister. Even in tears Kaname acknowledged being called that.
Shirayuki asked why didn’t Kaname use everything she had at her disposal, like her auto-intercepting cloth armour. Kaname says she’ll play fair and only use one of her swords, as Shirayuki is only using one as well. This was a duel, not a war. Kaname and Shirayuki bonded over that battle.
Riko commented that’s almost exactly like how Kinji was back in their 1st year. The other guy in Transport used to be enemies, and they settled their differences using this same duel method. Riko was one of the bystanders on the edge pushing them back into the ring to fight. Kinji had already forgotten who won that fight.
On their way back to the dorms, Kinji apologised to Kaname; if he hadn’t offer to help she could have won. She could have used a powerful technique to break through Jeanne while she blocked, jumping up into the air and target Shirayuki. But if she had done so he would have been hit by Jeanne’s attacks, so she stayed on the ground and blocked Jeanne.
She said that doesn’t matter – family are supposed to protect each other right?
Ch2
After the dual setback of her HSS backfiring on her and the loss in the duel, Kaname has become more of a normal girl and not a yandere that threatens to kill others. She still occasionally wants Kniji’s attention and stares at him at times though, which does make him nervous. He still found it better than Aria and others who bring out guns fighting over the TV remote and set up landmines just because they might find it fun.
Sports festival started. They had to tone it down this year as people getting hurt in events in previous years lead to Public Servants coming in to supervise the event. No weapons this time, despite Buteis are supposed to carry them at all times. Kinji went and volunteered to take down scores of various events, so he can avoid more dangerous ones.
Kinji remarks on how all the Third years of Butei high appears to be more normal than the 1st year students, but they all have a air of professional Butei to them and hiding their truth skills, from both to the civilian supervisors and to each other; at 3rd year they take much more requests and may end up in competition with one another, so hiding your skills is a smart thing to do. Kinji got cold sweat just watching them interact with one another.
Jeanne is mobbed by her fangirl kouhais after winning a tennis event, and when Kinji walked by asked him to help her get out of there. He thought ‘hell no, I’m not good with all these girls in miniskirts’, and told her it’s good for her to be this popular, shame she’s not born as a guy, then he moved on.
Reki’s not motivated, and her team in a badminton event lost immediately.
Aria’s in a gymnastic event, and Kinji can’t take his eyes off her. He noted again after comparing her movements with Reki and Shirayuki’s events earlier that Aria is just that good, and she is really adorable. Kaname pulled his face with a puffed out cheeks pouting at him staring. Aria noticed both Kinji and Kaname is around and asked if they’re slacking. Kinji says this first part they don’t need to work that hard, which Aria replied this is warm-up for the second part. Kinji warned Aria not to talk about the second part out loud in public, if the teachers find her she’ll be in deep trouble.
Aria asked him why did he stare at her like that earlier. Kinji protested he didn’t stare, but couldn’t deny he looked intently at her. Aria blushed, and Kinji reflexively went into a defensive stance before he remembered Aria’s not armed right now. After further observation and using his previous experience with Aria, he deduced Aria’s now half embarrassed and half happy. He has no idea why she’s happy being stared at, though he can understand being embarrassed if he’s a target of attention.
Aria asked him if he has anything left, and he says there’s still one event to go check up on; obstacle climbing, at the Assault class building where they have to scale the walls and reach the roof. Aria froze up hearing the word ‘roof’ and Kinji shoved his own hand onto his mouth, knowing he made a blunder. For some reason she has problems with the word ‘roof’, and he had just mentioned the word twice in his explanation. Right now just freezing up is one of the safe responses, one time before when he had no idea why she’s reacting to the word ‘roof’ he mentioned it half-a-dozen times in a single sentence, Aria went berserk, cried, shot at everything in his room then took a page out of his book and dived off his veranda and into the ocean. That ‘berserk’ stage is the more dangerous reaction. He had thought Aria had finally gone crazy and fished her out of the harbour with a fishing rod he had, then heard her saying “I don’t even know why I did that! It doesn’t count!” – before realising Aria is hysterical about that time she kissed him on the SSR building’s roof (ref Vol10). He has no idea how to fix that, so the only thing he can do is not to say that word when he’s around Aria. With the awkward pause between them, a 1st year girl Kaname worked with (Aria’s kouhai that she helps out) ran up to them and dragged Aria away. Kinji knew Kaname and that 1st year girl is working together to keep him and Aria separated, but he has no idea what those two would gain out of this (he himself is glad that his HSS won’t activate by accident this way though).
The ‘normal’ events are over, and the second part is about to begin. Kinji is getting stomach ulcers just thinking about it. Watson approached him, and after some banter of Kinji saying he’s not doing the adjustment exercises with Watson anymore (recap: Watson wants to try and be more feminine, Kinji wants to control HSS) since the last time they were seen together and led to rumours of them being BL. Watson then got down to business, saying they still haven’t found G III. He vanished, and none of the UK intelligence agencies have any clue where he went. Kinji had Watson summarize the reports since he couldn’t read English, and Watson told him he should learn the language. Kinji noted Watson’s curved backside can’t possibly be mistaken as a male’s, and Watson told him to stop staring at her legs as well.
Their allies in the Eastern War want Kinji’s opinion on what to do with G III. UK’s stance is ‘G III is not a bad person’, ignoring his attacks on Team Baskerville and look at the big picture. G III’s eliminated targets have always been pirates, terrorists, human traffickers and such, and he never asked nor took any reparation from the people he saved. Watson noted Kana is also like that.
US and UK occasionally supply G III with supplies if his goals coincides with their national interests; G III might be a dangerous beast without any restraints in their eyes, but a beneficial beast needs to be fed too. Watson asked Kinji does he think of G III as good or evil. He replied it depends on what G III does at the time, good or evil depends on his actions and from where and when they see him. What he does know is G III is a lawbreaker, and if G III breaks a law in front of him he will capture him. As for the Eastern War, Kinji says he’s willing to accept the idea of try and negotiate with G III, but he adds only if G III is willing to respond in a peaceful manner; if he fights then Kinji will respond in kind.
Kaname interrupted them, telling them they can’t win against G III. She ignored Watson who is cowering behind Kinji, shocked that Kanade showed up, and said G III is someone that’s no longer in the same league as a human. G III is a superhuman, and regardless if its HSS or supernatural powers, they can’t beat him. Kaname says it’s pointless to fight against someone stronger than yourself.
Kaname says G III has two goals, and she agrees with both of them. The first is to follow Doctor Sarah’s ideals, fight for those who are oppressed without a way to fight back. Sarah is the researcher who was closest to him. G III believes absolute strength is necessary to deter conflict, and human weapons such as himself is the key to do so. Kanade says she’ll follow him even if a time comes she has to sacrifice herself for him. Not just herself, G III had saved a lot of his followers and they all would sacrifice their lives for him.
Watson asked if Kanade loves G III. Kanade says they don’t have that kind of relationship, not to mention there’s only one woman that G III has ever loved. Watson asked who it was reflexively, her Butei training thinking if the enemy has a lover then maybe this can be used in some way. Kanade says it ‘s Doctor Sarah that came in from Harvard, the only one in the research facility that had ever treated G III kindly and believed in human weapons being used as a method for peace. From a photo Kanade pulled out, she’s just over twenty and is a beautiful lady. She died during a training session with G III when he was 14, and he changed after that since he thought he was responsible for her death. A month later he broke out of that research facility and destroyed it. Watson apologised for asking about the dead, a sensitive topic.
Watson then asked for the second goal of G III’s. Kanade said he wants to use the Irokane’s powers. Kanade, after meeting Kinji, thought she finally understood what G III’s motives for using them and she agrees with the path he’s taking; it’s for someone you love after all. Kanade doesn’t want Kinji to fight G III.
Kinji thought of the Irokane embedded inside Aria, and thought maybe that’s why G III came after them. He replied Kaname that humans aren’t rational creatures all the time; Kinji doesn’t want to fight a superhuman that he has no chance of winning against, but depending on G III’s actions he’d have to fight regardless of chances of victory.
The atmosphere where Watson and Kinji is suddenly tensed, and Kaname declared then she’ll take down Watson to prevent Kinji going into HSS, then break all of Kinji’s limbs so he can’t fight. She assures them that she’ll take good care of Kinji.
Watson pulled out a small knife from somewhere. Kinji considered bringing out his anti-Kaname weapon. Then the schoolwide intercom rang out, asking all students to prepare for the second stage. Kinji took this chance to break up the fight, telling them their teacher will probably hospitalise them all to the point they can’t pick fights anymore if they’re late to the second stage. He took away Watson’s knife and threw the secret weapon – milk-flavoured candy – down Kaname’s throat as she opened her mouth to say “But-”. For some reason Kaname likes that kind of candy, and she calmed down immediately and placed savouring the sweets as more important that fighting. Kinji dragged Watson away from Kaname while he could. Kinji thanked his dealings with Aria to think up this ploy, throwing Arai those peach buns a lot of times when she got angry.
Second stage starts at 5pm, because public servants’ job end at 5pm. After the supervisors left the real event started; boys have live-fire shoot-outs, and girls have jousting in the pool. Kinji wanted to cry after hearing these names, regardless which one. The winning side in each event is awarded 10,000 points, which made Kinji ask why did he even bother taking down the scores in the earlier events for the whole day (total score at this time: 598 vs 589).
Each team has to have one person on the sidelines as a helper/strategist, but none of the Baskerville girls wants to stand down out of the fight (both for fun of the event and they wants to show Kinji their good side, skills etc). Kinji asked the staff what to do in tis case, and the teacher told him he can be the helper (each teacher has their own quirks in addition to their skill, and this one had just been stood up at a date 2 days ago and she’s pissed – hence the sudden, unreasonable verdict).
Kinji thought risking his skin at the live-fire shoot out is preferable to watching a entire pool of girls fighting it out. Even if the boy’s event can only get you disqualified if your back touches the ground (hard to get disqualified = more chance for pain) and close combat is just often done as bullets coming at your bullet-proof uniform.
The 1st and 2nd year girls fight separate from the 3rd years. They can wear any swimwear they want within reasonable bounds. Kinji thought a lot of those swimsuits show so much skin they might as well be naked. To paraphrase the narrative: It might be a garden of paradise, but unfortunately he’s allergic to flowers
Kinji is still pushed to almost activating the HSS state. Watson asked him if there’s something wrong (she might be enrolled as a boy, but as a medical Butei she’s drafted into this event being on hand for emergencies).
A teacher (not the one that gave Kinji his duty at the girl’s side) handed Kinji a riot shield in case of stray rounds. Even if the jousting is just trying to take the opponent’s headbands, they’re all supplied non-lethal rounds and encouraged to shoot at your opponents. Kinji fervently thanked the teacher (more for the fact it blocks his view than the physical protection), then the teacher said it’s more for the benefit of the girls that lose their swimwear in the furore. She winked at Kinji through the tiny gap, and as she turned her impressive chest and slim waist (seen at close distance) nearly became the straw which broke the camel’s back. It’s noted here Kinji is especially weak (as in, no defense whatsoever) against older, attractive women
Kinji cursed the teacher for being a tease despite never shown these inclinations before.
Aria and others came up, and harem comedy + fanservice scenes ensued. Notable points include Riko in a old-school regulation dark-blue swimsuit (a fetish item which any respectable viewer of this genre of shows should know of by now) and Shirayuki in a mini-bikini (Kinji had thought Shirayuki was naked when he first saw her, his eyes almost fell out).
Fanservice scenes over, event starts. Kinji wondered why did he even come as a strategist if they did barely any talking when they were given the chance.
The boy’s events started as well, from the gunshots sounds outside. Kinji thought both sides is hell.
Kaname came in to help Aria when she’s in trouble, and vice-versa. They made a bet of offering a ton of food (respectively milk candy and peach buns) if the other girls falls off first. Riko cheats using her hair to pull off other people’s swimwear when they’re not looking.
After the events, everyone went off for a picnic dinner together. Kinji’s surprised how well Kaname has integrated into the rest of the girls, but then he thought of Riko and Reki being their enemies once and look how that turned out. Kaname told the rest of the girls her past as a human weapon.
After the picnic (more fluff events, not crucial to main plot) Kinji went home with Kaname. Kaname mentioned Shirayuki told her she knew Kaname is related to Kinji, since Shirayuki has the some sort of Sight ability. It doesn’t work all the time, but when it does it’s incredibly accurate. Kinji still refuses to believe Kaname is his blood-related sister (just a HSS-capable ex-‘human weapon’), and Kaname just laughed at how Kinji’s a tsundere brother.
Kaname asked if this is all a dream, and Kinji told her as much as he wishes otherwise it’s all reality. Kaname says it’s hard to believe life can have this much happiness, and almost dozed off onto Kinji’s shoulder. Kinji realised (again) that despite how much he complains about this school where guns are pulled out like nothing and being forced to fight a lot against enemies, these peaceful days means so much to him. He wants to have peaceful days from now on too, and despite a imouto coming out of nowhere he’s willing to carry her weight as well.
Kaname dozed off, then his metaphor became reality as he had to carry Kaname home on his back. Such peaceful days are times where you’re surrounded by friends and family.
Ch3
Next day there’s no school. Kinji had a tiring morning trying to stop Riko giving him H books, then came back to eat lunch. He found the curry Kaname made tasted a bit different. After a while he felt sleepy for some reason, then went to bed. When he woke up it was evening, with his phone turned off and him not remembering setting it up before. He turned it back on, and calls from Shirayuki and Jeanne flooded his phone, along with texts. The kitsune on his side called him then, tell him to gear up. Kinji asked what happened and she told him stop talking about useless things at this point; G III is back, and he’s here in the city. The kitsune can feel G III is here for a fight.
Watson picked Kinji up after he fully geared up, but at this time of the year it’ll take 20 minutes to get to him as the roads are being fixed, so a detour. Reki and Riko is already there, and Aria’s getting some things ready.
Watson smelled something wrong with Kinji’s breath, and they found Kaname’s curry today had a vast amount of drugs put into it to make Kinji asleep. Jeanne is over where G III is and due to a lack of equipment they have to use a cellphone to pass on video and audio. Jeanne warned them not to talk too loud or she’ll be discovered.
They see G III is in black modern armour, a black coat and both of those trimmed with gold. Kaname is with him, geared up in similar garb and has four swords with her. Kana is with them, and giving off a presence even more intense than the time Kinji fought Sherlock.
Kaname is begging G III that Team Baskerville and their side in the Eastern War isn’t their enemy. G III responded this is a order. Shirayuki them showed up and told him after his emissaries to them (apart from Kaname), the mikos agree with the kitsune on their side: They refuse to hand over the Irokane they have and any related spells to do with them to G III. Kinji thought she shouldn’t have said things to antagonize him like that.
Kinji roared through the cellphone for Jeanne to take everyone and retreat. Kaname in the visual is shocked that Kinji is up. Kinji thought she didn’t research him hard enough, he has a fairly good resistance towards drugs.
Kaname is conflicted, but ultimately her G IV side won out and she fought against Shirayuki against her will. Shirayuki said they beat her before, she can’t win. Kaname replied that was a duel, not a war. And they only defeated one of her 13 swords.
Kaname pulled out a light saber (yes, I said it wasn’t in my previous summary; I was wrong. The narrative explicitly states it’s like a light saber but with a ranged function) and attacked. G III roared that Kaname has become faulty – she’s not going for the kill, leaving gaps that allows them to run away. She’s dropped down to a human. G III trying to fix her back to G IV, back to a weapon and go for the kill. Kaname screams out she had enough of wars even as she uses twin light sabers against Shirayuki and Jeanne. Kaname stopped before delivering the deathblow after incapacitating the two of them, wordlessly asking G III if this is enough – those two are neutralised now. G III asked why did she stop – does he have to kill them himself?
Kaname pulled out a dagger, and with a tearful face bent down to the unmoving Shirayuki. G III chuckled coldly at how things are turning out. Kana warned him he should pay attention to himself. Reki’s sniper bullet got stopped without a sound, and when Riko dropped down to try and take on G III, and with a single blow Riko was blown into the harbour. G III commented if those two’s attacks even deserved to be worried about.
Aria came in right before Kaname brought the dagger down onto Shirayuki, with a exploding bullet that burst into flames. Aria flew in with a armoured skirt of sorts, with seven wings.
Hilda (Dracula’s daughter) saved Riko from dying, and told them via Riko’s connection. Kinji told her to save Jeanne and Shirayuki as well, and she told him she has no reason to listen to a lowly man like him.
Watson cut in, with a loud voice saying sorry for asking Hilda to do something out of her capabilities. It’s still only sunset, and with the sun still out she can’t do much. She don’t have to worry about rescuing Jeanne and Shirayuki when it’s impossible for her. Hilda snapped back how dare he insult her so, but Watson cuts off the connection to Riko. Watson manipulated Hilda’s pride into helping them, and told Kinji he should praise Hilda after all this.
Aria’s fighting evenly with Kaname, and G III commented Kana’s scarily accurate in her predictions that she foresaw ‘Hidan no Aria’ entering the fight – something worth watching. Kana responded it was still only ‘reasoning’, a incomplete version, and not a prediction.
Aria asked Kinji how much longer until he arrives, her special bullets is running low and the fuel in her skirt has only 30 seconds left. Kinji said 3 minutes. She said then she only has 3 minutes to capture Kaname, since Kinji obviously can’t raise a hand against his own sister.
Kinji finally made it, and Watson went to care for the wounded. Aria’s brought to her knees despite her efforts and Reki sniping whenever she can. Kinji told Kana to help, and she replied she’s just here as a observer, since she’s on a neutral side in this War. She’s here only to confirm/enforce one thing: the losing side of this battle follows the rules and accept being incorporated into the victor’s side, or die.
G III laughed, happy that the “Bloodline of G” have all gathered here today. Kinji has no idea what he meant. G III saw through Kinji’s plan of running away, and pre-emptively stopped that. He asked just what did Kinji do to Kaname, she achieved HSS but afterwards refused to use it and Kaname refused to deal killing blows now. G III knocked Kaname down for being a failure, then told her to chase after Aria and finish her off. Kinji yelled, telling Kaname she doesn’t have to work for G III when he’s just using her as a tool and probably rescued her just for this purpose, and told her she can come to his side.
Kaname finally got tired of being referred to as ‘IV’ by G III all this time, then used everything she had for one final blow on G III. Kaname flew past him, and got a hole blown into her chest, her armour lost in that last ditch attack as they blown apart to increase her speed for a one-time boost. Kaname tried for one last attack, then got blown 10m away with one attack by G III, telling her “Farewell, IV. You really are weak, and that’s all there is to it.”
Both Kinji and Aria went to where Kaname is lying down now and held her. They can’t stop the blood flowing out. Kaname said with a smile that in the end, she wants to protect Kinji more than she wants to help G III with his goals. She finally found why she wanted to see Kinji so much when they first met; she was still only human, and wanted to be with her family – her brother. She’s happy that though Kinji have always refused to believe she’s his sister, right now he’s not correcting her like he always is. She felt like she would die from the rejection every time, but now none of that mattered.
Kinji cursed himself for never recognising Kaname for who she was, even as she smiled at him. Regret is filling him, and his heart felt like it was stabbed.
Kaname said guess she became a human in the end – she did something irrational like fighting against G III. With what’s like her final breath, she begged Kinji to just walk away, he can’t win against G III. Kinji says he can’t do that – “as a brother, I can’t forgive the bastard who hurt my sister”.
Kaname cried after hearing that, tears flowed down her face along with the blood. She commented that Kinji had told her to not cry anymore, and she made the same resolution herself…
With a final smile, Kaname stopped moving like a puppet with its string cut.
Aria called out Kaname’s name, while Kinji stood back up. A unnatural blood is flowing through him. Anger flowed through his body right now. Anger at the man in front of him who used Kaname like a tool, tormented her and ultimately casted her aside like trash.
Feeling his gaze, G III turned towards Kinji and said he’s been waiting for Kinji to enter this state all this time. Kinji knows he’s in some sort of Hysteria state, but this isn’t Berserker State. This felt much more powerful.
G III went towards the ocean, telling Kinji to follow. Kinji thought right now he has more than the 1.7x Hysteria mode that is Berserker mode, and his enemy is a man and not a woman. Kinji told G III if this is alright, he won’t show any mercy this time. Aria is stunned at this new Kinji. Kinji can empathize with Aria right now, he had felt the same when his brother or their father got angry. Kinji told Aria not to follow him, he’s going to take vengeance for his sister. With a weak, submissive, feminine voice (by her standards) Aria asked of him:
“Please, don’t die.”
