just Look around on the many ps2 modforums and read for yourself..
V1 to V3 suffered from heat, v4 through v7/8 were good where V7 was the best, but they let themselves down again on V9 and V10 with shoddy laserunits and chips that overheated. The first slimlines suffered from overheating, cheap internal design and crashing controllerchips with laserfries as an effect. I've done numerous mods from v3 ( v1 and v2 only came out in Japan and never here in europe) up to v14 and have encountered my share of burnt and defective PS2 units. There's nothing Xbox Fanboy about this, cause I also have two Xboxes( use them as mediacenters not for gaming) next to my 3 ps2's and 2 PSP's. I'm currently saving to get a 360 and a PS3.

Nope it is not fat32. Using USB HDD, with Hdadvance, on the slim ones is a bad idea, since the PS2 uses USB1.0 so it will be slower than the DVD drive. The idea of HDloader is to reduce the loading time. However you can mod the slim ps2 with HDcombo, but that requires some work. Exploit, if you mean the indepence exploit, it only works with the proper ps2. Come on people, sony was a good brand back until the mid 90's, today most of their products aren't really reliable. People still assume that they make good value products, only because of their past, but if you have a look at their products today and ignore the brand name, you'll see that most of them are cheap rebranded tawianese or korean stuff. |

xbox's always had problems with over heating, especially the 360 the only problem there was that the lasers were crap until 50001 series I have a v9 PS2 (my v4 laser burnt out) I have had it for two years with no problems or not one DRE yet modded it was DMS4 + ToxicOS v0.41 + uLauncherElf v4.12 + Maxtor 120GB + HD LOADER v0.8b as well as FTP apps v7 was not the best by any means |

the older ps2 models are much better imo. The likely hood of it overheating is less than the slim ones with no fans with mod. The slim ones tend to lock up on me like a bitch. I have a v1 ps2 and it seems fine with no overheating but probably because i clean it up often.

I bet that if you had tweaked the laserpots of your old V4 and cleaned it you'd had gotten a couple of months or even way more extra off of it. Old lasers just give up, lenses get dirty, focus is off, bad or low grade CDR or DVDR media is used, that's what happens... back in the days where we installed NEO chips you had to tweak down the pots to get it to read CD-R wich accelerated the demise of a laserunit greatly. V9's had laserbreakdowns by the dozen from the very start. It's even called "V9 dead syndrome" After wich they came up with a special fix for v9 and v10's called the "romeo mod". It's where they pull the 12V off the LA/BA chip and put 5V on it instead to prevent the possibility of letting itself burn out, especially when using burnt media of low grade. I bet yours has got that mod too if it was done by a professional. @slayerthe slim ones actually do have a fan.. it just seems that it's not that effective...

You can get any model you want. If you want to play Import games on an American PS2 it is in fact possible. They have a software called "Magic Disk" or something like that, If your interested PM me and I will try to find more details on it. You just have to unscrew a screw on where you put the Game disc in and then put the game in and apply a chip. The software is approx. $30. I brought it to play Bleach Blade Battlers.
