It's just a way to quickly tell which shows are ending and/or re-airing.

If you want to hear my logic behind it, I'm using gray for rebroadcasts so that they don't stand out, because you needn't really read them (no real meaning whatsoever, apart from the fact that Gintama's popular enough to gather an audience with older episodes).

Ratings in general have gone down.. I bet you wouldn't see a Detective Conan episode have a 5.8% rating during the first FMA anime...

Eh, for some reason I've always thought Ayakashi Ayashi totally bombed, but its ratings were decent after all.

I see Densetsu no Yuusha no Densetsu's start is far from legendary.

As expected, noitaminA can definitely pull it off this season! Even though the block started 15 minutes later than usual, it did better than any other week from the previous season. Here's hoping it doesn't lose steam next week - I was hooked to the Moyashimon drama (I won't even comment on Shiki due to extreme fanboyism towards the manga already), maybe viewers will feel the same and come back.

Edit: I doubt Yamamoto Kouji will be giving split ratings for the two series this time around, but he's commented on this saying there was a peak at 4.7%. Looking good, noitaminA.

According to AnimeAnime, it even scored 7.4% in Kansai on MBS (where Fullmetal Alchemist also did slightly better than on TBS most of the time). Best first episode from Nichigo/Doroku since Blood+, the situations are fairly different too... here's hoping it doesn't bomb like Blood+ did? Though in the worst case scenario, it looks like it's only going to run for one cour.

On the other hand, the new TV Asahi line-up with Digimon did bomb. :/

Wow! Didn't expect Basara to do that well.

Too bad we didn't get detailed ratings for Noitamina. I'm guessing Moyashimon scored the highest, considering the anime already did very well on Noitamina back in the day. Then again, maybe some fans of the anime were put off by the fact it's live action... hard to tell.

I know that a lot of the players and the fans of the Sengoku BASARA video games in Japan are female. Many Japanese women are into this sort of legendary/historical samurai stuff, e.g., the teacher Kiryuu Yuuzuki in Kiss x Sis. Females probably accounted for much of the viewership of the first episode of the Sengoku BASARA Two television anime series.

Edit: The 2ch ratings thread is now dead, or so it seems. The poster who provided us with the full ratings list every week is gone. I don't have the Japanese skills to understand more about it, this is RT @krnerdnews. A terrible shame, I don't know if someone will be taking over (I suppose you'd need someone in a company that suscribes to Video Research reports, just how eggplant is able to give us DVD sales directly). I'll of course be keeping an eye on the 2ch thread (and make an effort to translate what I can) to see if anything happens.

Yesterday (07/08)'s late-night ratings: 1.2% 25:25-25:55 TBS Amagami SS 1.3% 25:55-26:25 TBS Kaichou wa Maid-sama! 3.4% 25:00-26:00 CX noitaminA - Moyashimon [drama] - Shiki (New) 0.4% 26:15-26:45 TX Densetsu no Yuusha no Densetsu 0.4% 27:40-28:05 TX Tegami Bachi (Rerun) As expected, noitaminA can definitely pull it off this season! Even though the block started 15 minutes later than usual, it did better than any other week from the previous season. Here's hoping it doesn't lose steam next week - I was hooked to the Moyashimon drama (I won't even comment on Shiki due to extreme fanboyism towards the manga already), maybe viewers will feel the same and come back. Edit: I doubt Yamamoto Kouji will be giving split ratings for the two series this time around, but he's commented on this saying there was a peak at 4.7%. Many Japanese women are into this sort of legendary/historical samurai stuff, e.g., the teacher Kiryuu Yuuzuki in Kiss x Sis. The poster who provided us with the full ratings list every week is gone. I don't have the Japanese skills to understand more about it, this is RT @krnerdnews. A terrible shame, I don't know if someone will be taking over (I suppose you'd need someone in a company that suscribes to Video Research reports, just how eggplant is able to give us DVD sales directly).
